Man Charged With DWI on Cruzin Cooler
2008-06-06 15:38:00
The Man has struck again. Although TastyBooze was originally all over the Cruzin Cooler a couple months ago, we suggested driving it to parties, not home from them.Well, that?s what Leslie J. ?Bomber? Marr did over the Memorial Day Weekend. After having a couple beverages, he was seen cruisin? on top of his Cruzin Cooler in Whitehall, New York. Marr was weaving ?pulled over? because he was driving on the sidewalk. Although he refused to take a breathalyzer at the scene, Marr faces DWI charges: Leslie J. ?Bomber? Marr, 57, could face felony DWI and aggravated unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle charges because of prior arrests and convictions in drinking-and-driving cases, said Whitehall Police Chief Richard LaChapelle. ? Marr was charged with misdemeanor counts of DWI and aggravated unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle, and also was cited for operating an uninsured motor vehicle. My oh my, what is this world coming to when you get charged for driving a cooler, intoxicated......
Walking Stick With Built-In Telescope
2008-06-06 11:01:00
Walking sticks are usually used by people with a serious medical condition afflicting the lower half of their body that unables them to walk without support; it is also used by some elderly members of the public who might be too frail to walk without some sort of aid. Wouldn?t it be a lot more fun if they had a walking stick that also has a built in telescope? It sure would add more fun to taking a trip to the park and whiling away hours on a bench. 10 Gross Food Myths Debunked
2008-05-28 15:18:00
Food is a deceptive mistress. Seductive, delicious, but also occasionally steeped in bacteria. There are rules (such as the five-second one) we fall back on to determine whether to partake in a particular morsel, yet many don't hold up under scrutiny. For those who've spent hours studying the recently discovered, yet unidentifiable leftovers hiding in the back of the fridge, here's some advice to keep you from spending days in the bathroom.10. It's OK to eat boxed pizza out of the garbage. As Jerry Seinfeld so eloquently stated, food "adjacent to refuse is refuse." But those willing to cross the line that "divides man and bum" should keep in mind that leftover pizza which wasn't refrigerated within two hours of being served is no longer safe for breakfast or a drunken snack. Of course, if you heed this advice when you're totally wasted, then you are clearly a master of self-preservation on top of being a master of your domain.9. Moldy food can be salvaged. Not only does mold have ...
bi-curious?
2008-05-27 00:12:00
bi-curious?There is an interesting thread going on at afterellen.com regarding what constitutes bi-curious and bisexuality. It is worth reading. The following is an excerpt:I think a person can identify as bisexual without ever having sex. If you'reattracted to men and women; I'd paint you bisexual. So where does the bi-curious part come in? Is it a legitimate orientation? I know some people would call bisexuality a phase, I do NOT agree with thatnotion. But I do think bi-curious is a phase. It seems like the 'stillquestioning' period before a person actually comes out. It seems like it's thefantasizing, flirting, contemplating that a person does before they come toterms with their true sexuality. It seems to be a term reserved for straight people who always wondered whatit would be like to be with someone of the same sex. But can it be used for gaypeople who wonder about being with someone of the opposite sex? Is it fair to use the term for people who are honestly questioning ...

The Stories Behind 10 Famous Product Placements
2008-05-22 14:26:00
I saw Run, Fatboy, Run this weekend. Loved it. The movie centers around a marathon called the Nike River Run. This, of course, was accompanied by Nike River Run signs splattered all over London. At one point, the main character receives a brand-spanking-new pair of running shoes?Nike, of course?and is told that they are ?the best money can buy.? My first thought was, ?I wonder how much Nike paid for that.? I read that the filmmakers originally wanted the race to be the London Marathon, but that was already being used by another movie. Thus, the Nike River Run was invented. Nonetheless, I wonder about product placement whenever I see a logo or company name pop up in a movie. Was that a paid deal? Or just something that the moviemakers threw in there? Here are the answers to some of those questions?including the Seinfeld Junior Mints and the Reese?s Pieces from E.T.1. Junior Mints, Seinfeld ?Who?s gonna turn down a Junior Mint? It?s chocolate, it?s peppermint, it?s delicious!? Were...
Why all the hoopla over that curious copper color?
2008-05-21 10:15:00
And why is Oregon Sunstone Labradorite so very, very special? It is my experience that you can tell how well a student understands the subject being taught based on the questions they ask. And given the questions that we are receiving about the Oregon Sunstone Labradorite issues, I can tell that there are a lot of people who really don?t understand exactly how all of this plays out regarding copper and the feldspars. So I thought that this week we would take a look at this curious copper color and why there is so much hoopla over the issues.First, let?s take a look at the most simple type of copper coloration in a gemstone. At left you see native copper, the metal that U.S. pennies and water pipes world wide are made from. This is what it looks like coming out of the ground. But if you take a close look at the image (as well as the banner image at the top of the page) you will see some green color patches forming on our native copper. This is oxidation. The mixing of the copper with o...

Obama T-Shirts for sale: ?Curious George?
2008-05-15 03:48:00
Hurry, hurry, step right up! Get yourself a cool monkey/Obama t-shirt. Marietta bar owner Mike Norman says the T-shirts he’s peddling, featuring a look-a-like of cartoon chimp Curious George peeling a banana, with “Obama in ‘08″ underneath, are not meant to offend. Norman acknowledged the imagery’s Jim Crow roots but said he sees nothing wrong with depicting a prominent African-American as a monkey. We’re not living in the (19)40’s,” he said. “Look at him . . . the hairline, the ears — he looks just like Curious George.”About a dozen prostestors rallied against the shirts Tuesday afternoon, condemning them as racist and asking Norman, longtime proprietor of Mulligan’s Bar and Grill on Roswell Street, to stop selling them. Marietta native Pam Lindley, 47, joined the protest after reading about the controversy online. “I don’t want people to think this is what Marietta is all about,” she added...

The Curious Myth of Hillary Clinton’s Senate Effectiveness
2008-05-11 20:02:00
by Geezer Power…11:02 am VIDEO Bill Clinton Argues With Voter “CBS News RAW”: While campaigning in Fayetteville, W.Va., Bill Clinton argued with an audience member over claims made by Hillary Clinton that she improved health care during his administration. Huffington Post Frankly, I’m tired of listening to Senator Clinton portray herself as being in the solutions business — as boasting a nice, fat resume of accomplishments — while mocking Barack Obama for being a rhetorical empty suit. Is she truly a beacon of experience? Because I couldn’t think of a single piece of legislation that has her name stuck proudly on the front of it, no equivalent of McCain-Feingold, for example, I headed straight for her campaign website to see what glorious aspects of her vaunted experience I was missing. Actually, I was missing nothing. There is not one single example of any legislation with her name appended to it. In fact, the page devoted to her Senate b...

How Do Painkillers Find & Kill Pain?
2008-05-11 15:43:00
First, we need to make a distinction between the two main classes of painkillers, which are used for different situations and function via different mechanisms. The first class is the narcotic drugs. These are the heavy-duty drugs, like morphine and codeine, used to treat severe pain. They relieve pain in two ways: first by interfering with and blocking the transmission of pain signals to the brain, and then by working in the brain to alter the sensation of pain. These drugs neither find nor kill pain, but reduce and alter the user?s perception of the pain. They?re kind of like having an optimistic friend that says, ?Hey man, everything will be cool. Nothing?s wrong. Here, look at this shiny, distracting thing!? The other class is the aspirin drugs, like paracetamol and ibuprofen. These are the over the counter drugs we reach for whenever we?ve got a headache or a sore back. Throughout history, people all over the world were using botanical remedies for pain. The ancient Egyptians u...

The Amazing Story behind the 256 Year-Old Man
2008-05-04 15:39:00
Li Ching-Yun. Image from The People?s Republic of China According to the 1933 obituaries in both Time Magazine and the New York Times, Li Ching-Yun was reported to have buried 23 wives and fostered 180 descendants by the time he died at the age of 256. Was he really that old? Could he have forgotten his own birthday or exaggerated his claim? Environmental Graffiti investigates. The Secrets to an Interminable Life ?Keep a quiet heart, sit like a tortoise, walk sprightly like a pigeon and sleep like a dog.? These were the words of advice Li gave to Wu Pei-fu, the warlord, who took Li into his house to learn the secret of extremely long life. Li maintained that inward calm and peace of mind were the secrets to incredible longevity. His diet after all, was mainly based on rice and wine. From 0 to 256 Unsurprisingly, not much is known about Li Ching-Yun?s early life. We know he was born in the province of Szechwan in China, where he also died. We also know that by his tenth birthday, Ch...

Six Diseases You Don?t Want
2008-04-30 20:30:00
I?ve had friends and family with diseases like cancer, lupus, bipolar, and diabetes, but I?ve never known anyone with a disease I could laugh at. They say laughter is the best medicine; that?s good news for the sufferers of these diseases. 1) Maple Syrup Urine Disease (MSUD)To answer your question, yes, your pee does smell like maple syrup. Other symptoms include lethargy, coma, avoiding food, and mental retardation. If left untreated, this disease can kill you and would make for an embarrassing obituary. This disease is a metabolism disorder that makes the body incapable of breaking down particular proteins. Studies conducted since 1979 (Georgia) show that MSUD affects approximately 1 in every 120,000 live births and occurs in all ethnic groups worldwide. It?s genetic, so if your pee that smells like it could be poured over waffles, get to the hospital?stat! 2) Exploding Head SyndromeI?m sure many of you get the same mental image I do when reading the name of this disease. It?s act...

8 Fictional Cities You Wouldn't Want to Live in
2008-04-25 14:41:00
Creators of fiction are always coming up with new and exciting places for their characters to dwell in, but not all of them can be utopias. In fact, some are cities and towns that would make you wish you were back in your boring old suburb again. Let's take a look, shall we?8. Bedrock (The Flintstones)You know how annoyed you get at your appliances when they don't work right? Now imagine that those appliances could talk and were always making witty remarks to you. Oh and also they are dinosaurs that could tear your flesh from your bones. This sounds like two things: the plot of Jurassic Park 11 (it's inevitable) and a place that I would never take a lease out on. How can you sleep when you know your record player could get a hankering for a midnight snack and fly over to your babies crib with a thirst for infant blood? If mauling by a carnivorous can opener fits into you definition of a "gay old time," then by all means, move into this modern stone age suburb. You're in store fo...

Lately, as I sit in a near deliriously tired state past my bedtime (I am notorious for my need for at least ten hours sleep each night - awake past 10.30pm and I'm bordering on mentally dead), I think about what I'd like to say. What I'd like to write. For no reason, nothing in particular. Blog about, put in my Facebook or MySpace status, whatever.Everytime I think it, the following line pops unwelcomely into my head:"I am... almost a real person."As you can see, it's much past my bedtime.

Bike-Curious
2008-04-08 09:24:00
The Brits apparently do not want to be outdone by Americans who have sex with picnic tables. Yup, Scotland has raised the stakes in the Game of Crazy by fucking bicycles:A man has been placed on the sex offenders' register after being caught trying to have sex with a bicycle. [The man] was discovered in his room by two cleaners at the Aberley House Hostel in Ayr, south west Scotland, in October last year....[Depute fiscal Gail Davidson] said: "They knocked on the door several times and there was no reply. "They used a master key to unlock the door and they then observed the accused wearing only a white T-shirt, naked from the waist down. "The accused was holding the bike and moving his hips back and forth as if to simulate sex."Look, folks, I've humped pillows as much as the next guy, but what is this worldwide interest in erotic encounters with inanimate objects? WHAT?! I Do Not Understand.[Thanks to Nicole at For Future Reference for posting this.]

Curious decision by Saenz
2008-03-31 02:57:00
The Mets re-assigned Olmedo Saenz back on March 20th, the last word was that Saenz didn't accept the assignment and was contemplating retirement. Then yesterday Saenz signed a minor league deal with Washington. It's a curious decision by the full-time right handed pinch hitter and part-time corner infielder. Saenz had a chance of getting called up if Delgado was injured or the right handed bench players struggled. But with Washington the team has two first basemen who are competing with each other for time, Nick Johnson or Dimitri Young could be full time players on other teams but find themselves platooning in Washington. I would liked to have kept his professional right handed bat in our system and I'm not sure how he believes that Washington gives him a better chance of playing in the bigs but he's now a National......Nationals signed infielder Olmedo Saenz to a minor league contract.Saenz, cut by the Mets last week, will report to Triple-A Columbus.
