The Curious Case of Bob Dylan
2009-11-03 14:06:00
Bob Dylan has me freaking out. No, not because he appeared at the Aragon Theater this past weekend and looked and sounded like an asthmatic escapee from a retirement home. But a quick word on that: Part of the joy of Bob Dylan is that no matter how no matter how much his voice degrades, sounding more and more like he just swallowed a box of roofing nails, his music continues to kick ass. However, the Aragon Theater is just not a place he should perform. While the Aragon is a pretty little theater, the acoustics in there are so dreadful you might as well go watch a concert in a lead casket. Seriously, I don't know how that place...

Digital Media Driving 40% Growth in Sales - The Curious Cases of Voltas and
2009-06-10 07:14:00
Here are two case studies which would make any digital media enthusiast proud. After years of unfair performance expectations and measurements restricted to clicks and leads on those clicks, finally major companies are getting the broader picture. This is the story of Voltas and Gillette and how they combined media both traditional and new to push their sales big time. Voltas Jagmag Desh Mera Campaign Many amongst us might have already seen the campaign on TV and the banners doing rounds on popular website. The 25 crore ad blitz is different this time because of the weight it has given to the web. Out of the over all marketing spend about 10 per cent of its advertising budget on the Internet. This is nearly five times the 2-3 per cent spent by the company till the last financial year. And what did this result in? According to Afaqs, about 24 crore impressions, including banner and video ads, are already being served on websites such as Yahoo!, Rediff, MSN, Sify and NDTV.com in the m...

Music Review: Music From The Motion Picture The Curious Case of Benjamin Bu
2009-01-19 01:01:00
Often films are driven as much by their scores as their soundtracks, or vice-versa. Typically, a record company releases one or the other to the public, occasionally releasing both if the audience is there and if the music is worthy. At times, such releases will be score/soundtrack compilations, something of a “best of” collection of ...

The Curious Case of the Missing Reports
2008-12-27 18:08:00
GAZA CITY —(New York Times) The Israeli Air Force on Saturday launched a massive attack on Hamas targets throughout Gaza in retaliation for the recent heavy rocket fire from the area, hitting mostly security headquarters, training compounds and weapons storage facilities… Wait a sec. Retaliation for WHAT rocket attacks? Why is it we never hear of such attacks by Hamas, except in reference to what the Israelis are retaliating against? Why is it the Dinosaur news never bothers to report the number of rocket attacks Israel endures, daily? Why is it that the first report from the region most Americans see invariably, is Israel taking action to protect itself, and not the hundreds of occasions when she does nothing, and endures the attacks in the interests of peace in the region? Could there be an anti-Israel bias in the reporting? Nah….Couldn’t be, could there? BitsBlog Tags: massive attack, security headquarters, New York Times, israeli air force, rocket fire ...

Man Charged With DWI on Cruzin Cooler
2008-06-06 15:38:00
The Man has struck again. Although TastyBooze was originally all over the Cruzin Cooler a couple months ago, we suggested driving it to parties, not home from them.Well, that?s what Leslie J. ?Bomber? Marr did over the Memorial Day Weekend. After having a couple beverages, he was seen cruisin? on top of his Cruzin Cooler in Whitehall, New York. Marr was weaving ?pulled over? because he was driving on the sidewalk. Although he refused to take a breathalyzer at the scene, Marr faces DWI charges: Leslie J. ?Bomber? Marr, 57, could face felony DWI and aggravated unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle charges because of prior arrests and convictions in drinking-and-driving cases, said Whitehall Police Chief Richard LaChapelle. ? Marr was charged with misdemeanor counts of DWI and aggravated unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle, and also was cited for operating an uninsured motor vehicle. My oh my, what is this world coming to when you get charged for driving a cooler, intoxicated......
Walking Stick With Built-In Telescope
2008-06-06 11:01:00
Walking sticks are usually used by people with a serious medical condition afflicting the lower half of their body that unables them to walk without support; it is also used by some elderly members of the public who might be too frail to walk without some sort of aid. Wouldn?t it be a lot more fun if they had a walking stick that also has a built in telescope? It sure would add more fun to taking a trip to the park and whiling away hours on a bench. 10 Gross Food Myths Debunked
2008-05-28 15:18:00
Food is a deceptive mistress. Seductive, delicious, but also occasionally steeped in bacteria. There are rules (such as the five-second one) we fall back on to determine whether to partake in a particular morsel, yet many don't hold up under scrutiny. For those who've spent hours studying the recently discovered, yet unidentifiable leftovers hiding in the back of the fridge, here's some advice to keep you from spending days in the bathroom.10. It's OK to eat boxed pizza out of the garbage. As Jerry Seinfeld so eloquently stated, food "adjacent to refuse is refuse." But those willing to cross the line that "divides man and bum" should keep in mind that leftover pizza which wasn't refrigerated within two hours of being served is no longer safe for breakfast or a drunken snack. Of course, if you heed this advice when you're totally wasted, then you are clearly a master of self-preservation on top of being a master of your domain.9. Moldy food can be salvaged. Not only does mold have ...
bi-curious?
2008-05-27 00:12:00
bi-curious?There is an interesting thread going on at afterellen.com regarding what constitutes bi-curious and bisexuality. It is worth reading. The following is an excerpt:I think a person can identify as bisexual without ever having sex. If you'reattracted to men and women; I'd paint you bisexual. So where does the bi-curious part come in? Is it a legitimate orientation? I know some people would call bisexuality a phase, I do NOT agree with thatnotion. But I do think bi-curious is a phase. It seems like the 'stillquestioning' period before a person actually comes out. It seems like it's thefantasizing, flirting, contemplating that a person does before they come toterms with their true sexuality. It seems to be a term reserved for straight people who always wondered whatit would be like to be with someone of the same sex. But can it be used for gaypeople who wonder about being with someone of the opposite sex? Is it fair to use the term for people who are honestly questioning ...

The Stories Behind 10 Famous Product Placements
2008-05-22 14:26:00
I saw Run, Fatboy, Run this weekend. Loved it. The movie centers around a marathon called the Nike River Run. This, of course, was accompanied by Nike River Run signs splattered all over London. At one point, the main character receives a brand-spanking-new pair of running shoes?Nike, of course?and is told that they are ?the best money can buy.? My first thought was, ?I wonder how much Nike paid for that.? I read that the filmmakers originally wanted the race to be the London Marathon, but that was already being used by another movie. Thus, the Nike River Run was invented. Nonetheless, I wonder about product placement whenever I see a logo or company name pop up in a movie. Was that a paid deal? Or just something that the moviemakers threw in there? Here are the answers to some of those questions?including the Seinfeld Junior Mints and the Reese?s Pieces from E.T.1. Junior Mints, Seinfeld ?Who?s gonna turn down a Junior Mint? It?s chocolate, it?s peppermint, it?s delicious!? Were...
Why all the hoopla over that curious copper color?
2008-05-21 10:15:00
And why is Oregon Sunstone Labradorite so very, very special? It is my experience that you can tell how well a student understands the subject being taught based on the questions they ask. And given the questions that we are receiving about the Oregon Sunstone Labradorite issues, I can tell that there are a lot of people who really don?t understand exactly how all of this plays out regarding copper and the feldspars. So I thought that this week we would take a look at this curious copper color and why there is so much hoopla over the issues.First, let?s take a look at the most simple type of copper coloration in a gemstone. At left you see native copper, the metal that U.S. pennies and water pipes world wide are made from. This is what it looks like coming out of the ground. But if you take a close look at the image (as well as the banner image at the top of the page) you will see some green color patches forming on our native copper. This is oxidation. The mixing of the copper with o...
