Weird Storyline Showcase: Katamari Damacy and Uncharted
2008-01-02 04:36:00 I'm going to start up a new regular series, the Weird Storyline Showcase. These posts will highlight the wonderfully weird stories of gaming, from the off-the-wall Japanese ones to the poorly written or cliche-filled western ones. These will require a spoiler warning, so I'll post the names of the games whose storylines I'll be discussing before each actual post body. Anyway, for today's showcase I've chosen Katamari Damacy and Uncharted: Drake's Fortune. So, just to warn you:Katamari Damacy and Uncharted: Drake's Fortune SPOILER WARNINGSo anyway, Katamari Damacy is probably the best example of the off-the-wall, out-of-left-field, zany, silly Japanese storyline. (The box art on the right is great, isn't it?) In case you haven't heard of it yet, you are the Prince under the King of All Cosmos and you have to roll lots of stuff on Earth up into a huge ball. Your ball (a Katamari) has to be a certain size by the end of the level. The basic trick is rolling smaller things up en...

Katamari Damacy
2007-11-26 10:52:00 Katamari Damacy (lit. "Clump Spirit") is a third-person puzzle-action video game published and developed by Namco for the PlayStation 2 video game console. It was first released in Japan on March 18, 2004. The game's plot concerns a tiny prince on a mission to rebuild the stars, constellations and Moon, which his father, the King of All Cosmos, has accidentally destroyed. This is achieved by rolling a magical, highly adhesive ball called a katamari around various locations, collecting increasingly larger objects, ranging from thumbtacks to thumbpicker, bike, boat, whale, bridge, plane, skyscraper to a vulcano, until the ball has grown large enough to become a star. The game falls under both the puzzle and action game genres, since strategy as well as dexterity are needed to complete a mission. In Japanese, Katamari means "clump" or "clod" and Damashii is the rendaku form of tamashii which means "soul" or &am...

2007-06-27 08:03:00 Beautiful Katamari is set to roll on to your Xbox 360 this October, but that doesn't mean you have to wait until then to start rolling people and objects into huge balls. Via Jay is Games comes this Katamari Damacy mini-game hosted on Namco's Damacy Japanese website. The game itself is quick and simple: use the King head to lead your little character around the field, adding smaller objects to your ball until you can pick up bigger objects, eventually becoming so big that the grass itself becomes part of your ball and reveals a secret image. You'll probably only play it once, but that's not the point: it's cute and free and Katamari.[Click the below image to play]
