Anil Kapoor is Quizmaster in Danny Boyle?s Slumdog Millionaire
2007-12-06 16:31:00
Anil Kapoor has been cast as the Quizmaster in Danny Boyle 's Slumdog Millionaire - a British movie based on Vikas Swarup's book Q&A - after both Shah Rukh Khan and Amitabh Bachchan turned down the role."Danny was in Mumbai scouting for a location to film the movie. But things didn't work out with either SRK or the Big B and so now Anil will be playing the role. An announcement should come soon," says a source. The source adds that Kapoor and Boyle have had quite a few closed door meetings."Everything has been very hush hush. Things are being kept under a wrap. The set is being constructed and Danny is putting the final touches to the script. The initial filming has already begun. They don't want to disclose much and therefore are keeping everything very quiet and closed from the public. The film has generated a lot of interest in the West."Danny Boyle has delivered superhits such as Trainspotting, Millions, 28 Days Later and The Beach.

Amitabh Bachchan Not Part Of Danny Boyle's Slumdog Millionaire
2007-11-06 09:45:00
Contrary to the rumors, Amitabh Bachchan will not a cameo in Danny Boyle's Slumdog Millionaire, the Mumbai-based adaptation of the Vikas Swarups novel QA about a 18-year old boy who wins the top prize in Kaun Banega Crorepati. So my bet is on Shahrukh.A Mumbai tabloid quotes "a reliable source" as saying, "Amitabh Bachchan is in talks with Danny and his casting agents. If all goes well, Bachchan will start filming in January." But according to Mr. Bachchan he hasn't even been offered any role in Danny Boyle's film."This is the first time I'm hearing about it. I've no knowledge of this. ..In January I start shooting for Mira Nair's film. I’d love to meet the reliable source behind this story." According to an Indian actor from the film, "It's impossible for Mr. Bachchan to be cast in the role. It requires someone far younger."
Sunshine Film Ignites the Sun
2007-10-23 06:35:00
Danny Boyle's Sunshine is a surprisingly effective appeal to identify with suicide bombers. But in his film Boyle has engineered a narrative that frames secular science as the True Belief that drives the faithful. Sunshine tells the story of a future earth that circles a slowly dying star, and a concomitant mission to save the world by dropping a bomb into the center of the sun, reigniting its dimming burn. It is easy, watching Sunshine, to begin to imagine sacrificing one's own life for such a cause. The anxiety around sun worship is profoundly old. It haunts the very earliest moments of monotheism (see Philip Glass's Akhnaten). The Abrahamic tradition grew up in the shadows of an ice age. These are stories from mankind's childhood, when the approach of the winter solstice must have accompanied a grim anxiety - that the sun would not return. Sun worship is the ur heresy - the original distraction. The old testament made Sol a creature like ourselves: "Sun and moon fall down b...

Danny Boyle and Alex Garland... Perfection??? Part 1
2007-09-25 23:35:00
When I began to write this post, I thought I would focus on one of my favorite films by the director/writer team of Danny Boyle and Alex Garland, The Beach. This was before I caught one of they're newest films, Sunshine. Needless to say, I was impressed; so I decided to instead feature the entire repertoire of the, in my opinion, perfect, combination of film making talent. So, let us begin with the film that started it all, The Beach. The year was 2000 and we were all reeling from the panic that ensued in preparation for Y2K which, as you remember, didn't happen. But that's besides the point. Let's see where were we... 2000, and Leonardo DiCaprio had come off of such performances as Titanic, The Man in The Iron Mask, and my favorite The Basketball Diaries. I remember the first time I saw the movie, it changed my life. Well, that's a little over dramatic, let me rephrase... It changed my movie life. The film, set in the near paradise of Koh Phangan, Thailand, featured...
Shahrukh Khan In Danny Boyle?s Slumdog Millionaire
2007-09-21 13:45:00
We were one of the first to tell you about Danny Boyle’s Slumdog Millionaire based on Vikas Swarup’s bestseller Q & A. Now according to the rumor mill none other than Shahrukh Khan will play a pivotal role in the movie. The main protagonist in the movie is a Mumbai slum kid who contests in the TV show  Kaun Banega Crorepati and catches the attention of a young girl who is regular watcher of the show. Since SRK hosed KBC, Boyle wants him to appear for a cameo.
Danny Boyle and Alex Garland... Perfection??? Part 2
2007-09-09 19:56:00
Let's see, where were we? Okay, first off we've been through two of the three films produced by the team first off, The Beach, a Psychological/Philosophical Drama, and secondly, 28 Days Later, A pure and simple(well, not simple) Horror film. That's a pretty big leap to take in film genres, which brings me to my next point. Sunshine is a Science Fiction and Psychological thriller dealing with advanced scientific theory along with a study of the human mind. Seems like an impossible feat to cover in two hours you say? Well, in my opinion Sunshine not only covered these topics, but wove them into a compelling story with the most impressive visual cinematography to date. The film features a not to distant future in which the sun has died and started to break down, leaving the earth with little to no light. The story picks up after a failed attempt by mankind to re-start the sun with some kind of explosive device designed to "create a star within a star". The first mission, Ica...

Danny Boyle?s ?Sunshine?: Interview with Chris Evans
2007-07-18 19:00:00
This weekend Danny Boyle’s (28 Days Later) sci-fi space adventure movie, Sunshine, will be released in theaters. I’m very excited for this movie as I love the genre. While there’s the obvious challenge of trying to overcome what’s been doing in this group before (2001 Space Odyssey, Event Horizon, etc.) it looks like ...

Summer Solstice Approaches in Form of Danny Boyle?s ?Sunshine?
2007-06-21 00:27:00
Fox Searchlight sent me an interesting graphic today about the upcoming film ?Sunshine? from director Danny Boyle. He?s the director who brought you ?Trainspotting? and ?28 Days Later?.Like what ?28 Weeks Later? director Eli Roth is doing with the creation of ?Cell,? Boyle is also trying to lure audiences with the fear of real-world Armageddon. In ?Sunshine,? astronauts are sent to reignite the dying sun 50 years in the future. The plot, though, doesn?t center around the sun?s death in the traditional sense.Instead, the sun has been ?infected? with a ?Q-ball,? which is a super-symmetric nucleus left over from the big bang that is disrupting normal matter. As I will be out of town on July 18 when Boyle comes to Chicago for a press day, I am efforting scheduling a phoner. The film opens on July 20.

Danny Boyle Comes To Bollywood For His Next Project, Slumdog Millionaire
2007-04-30 08:00:00
Now this one got me really excited. Remember Danny Boyle? Well he is the man behind brilliant movies like Beach, Millions, 28 Days Later and Trainspotting.  Currently, the man is busy shooting Slumdog Millionaire and was in Mumbai, India scouting for locations! Slumdog Millionaire is based on Vikas Swarup’s bestseller Q & A and according to Boyle, it is "a great love story that will be partly in Hindi, mostly in English”. Boyle also met Shahrukh Khan, however for now has not signed any Bollywood star! Wouldn't it be great if Boyle collaborated with Aamir Khan, who for sure will do full justice to the movie!
