Planes, Trains & Automobiles: Some Data Should Just Stay at Work
2008-11-12 01:00:00
In recent security briefings, I’m often asked: “Should I protect sensitive information on my laptop by encrypting my laptop?” My advice is to first ask WHY?  Why do you as an employee have the business or security justification to transfer and store sensitive PII: (personally identifiable information) onto your mobile device?   (A little of asking who, what, where and when about your information will help here too).

Data Loss Prevention Tools: Friend or Foe?

I recently visited a customer and we had an in-depth conversation about the use of DLP in a large corporate environment. The customer agreed that the technology surrounding DLP is great and that it would definitely help identify potential rogue employees.  However, the customer also expressed concerns about when is enough…enough.

Data Entry Jobs That Pay
2008-10-27 13:21:00
Data entry in the past has proved to be one of those areas of online money making that scammers have targeted a lot in the past. There are still several scam data entry sites out there today and sadly people are being ripped off as well.I have found what I think is the best one stop data entry product available, but it won't last. Membership DataPcJobs is limited and therefore if you are serious about making money from home I would suggest looking into what they have to offer. Ill explain the basics of DataPcJobs briefly here. The WorkAfter joining you receive access to the member's area. In here you will find a list of companies that require ads to be filled out for their advertising campaign. You choose a company, write the ad they require and submit it. Then you wait to be paid usually every second week. There is no limit to the amount of ads you can write each day and each ad typically takes about 5-10 minutes to complete. Sounds easy so far doesn't it? Well that's all you ne...

The High Cost of Being Wrong: Why Data Detection Matters
2008-10-20 10:00:00
Imagine you see a car stopped on some train tracks, and you hear a train coming. How do you react? Do you ignore the sound of the train, thinking it won’t hit the car? In that same vein, not having an accurate data loss prevention (DLP) solution in place within your organization is akin to standing by and watching that train wreck about to happen – all while pretending you can’t see what’s going on even though the train’s horn is blaring. In my ten years of experience in the search and categorization space, I can tell you that the risk of a DLP software policy allowing false negatives, when sensitive documents are missed by the policy and considered safe, is potentially extremely costly to a company...
Hard Drive Data Recovery
2008-10-20 06:22:00
You’ve been working on a project or term paper on the computer, and suddenly, the computer crashes and all your data is lost. Well, not quite–you can actually have many of your computer files restored via a service called hard drive data recovery. This process is done by professionals, and helps you to recover important documents to access on another computer if your PC has crashed. When you contact a hard drive data recovery specialist, he or she will try to find the cause of the data loss first. If you have noticed that your computer has been running slowly lately, or if it has been difficult for you to save documents, this could be a sign that it’s time to buy a new device. If you see a bright blue screen pop up when you try to change programs or applications, this is another sure sign that you’re going to need hard drive data recovery soon. A specialist will also be able to check for virus contamination and file overwrites, as well as defects in your har...

Adding Data to Processes
2008-10-16 20:02:00
Business Process Management (BPM) differs from Workflow in many ways, but its native support for data might be the most critical one. When BPML was introduced eight years ago, its most fundamental innovation (later embraced by BPEL) was to treat data as an integral dimension of processes, rather than simple parameters of workflow activities. Assaf Arkin, Intalio's CTO, deserves credit for such a major contribution to the field of enterprise computing. Nevertheless, neither BPML nor BPEL went far enough along the data axis, and never allowed developers to properly manage data objects or entities. Instead, it relied on a service model to access externally-managed entities, and only cared to carry the process' data, thereby limiting the BPMS' ability to be used as a general purpose development platform for enterprise applications. This is about to change, and once again, Intalio is on a mission to bring such innovation to the market. Let's take a look at what's coming up? At a hig...

No Data and Report Error

In this article, we will discourse why we necessitate information constructions and what kind of jobs can be solved with their use. Data Structures aid us to form information in the computer, resulting in more than efficient programs. An efficient programme carries faster and assists minimise the use of resources like memory, disk.Computers are getting more than powerful with the transition of time, addition in central processing unit performance, handiness of faster web and the maximization of disc space. Therefore, people have got started solving more than than than and more composite problems. As computing machine applications are becoming complex, so there is a demand for more resources. This makes not intend that we should purchase a new computing machine to do the application carry faster. Our attempt should be to result that the solution is achieved with the aid of online computing machine programming, information constructions and algorithm.Selecting a Data StructureHow ca...

The Cost of Data Security

A World Becoming "Data Retentive"
2008-09-16 02:00:00
I’ve recently been looking at the implications of the second phase of the EU Data Retention Directive which will shortly be coming into force: as well as requiring telcos to keep call logs of who we called and when, ISPs will also now be required to keep logs of when we logged on and from where. Let’s leave the debate on whether all this logging is an invasion of our privacy or not – and whether that compromise of our personal freedom is justified in the global war on terror – for another time. For now, let’s just have a think about all that log data sitting around, waiting to be called upon...

Washtenaw County Comprehensive Market Data
2008-09-10 05:27:00
Nationally the housing market is taking a beating. But, the last few days, interest rates have fallen again into the 5.65% range in Washtenaw County. Sales price average was $196,751.00. For the year it is down 7.5%. The average days on the market for homes and condos is 87. But according the Big House Data this does not reflect expireds and re-listings. If you figure those in the DOM on is close to 130.5. Once again, the homes priced competively, and in good condition are selling first. As a listing agent in Ann Arbor, I am giving more weight to the homes that are Active and that my sellers will be competing with. My goal is to have their home priced in the the 10 of all the homes buyers will look at.Buyers are smart in Washtenaw County and they will buy the perceived value in any home. With so many choices for buyers to see, I want to be in that TOP 10 in Ann Arbor, Saline, Dexter, Chelsea, Ypsilanti, Ypsilanti Township, Milan, Pittsfield Township. There were 375 closings in Augus...
Washtenaw County August Market Data
2008-09-10 04:53:00
Do you ever feel as a listing agent you are always giving sellers, "bad news"? I know as an Ann Arbor agent it is discouraging to have to tell sellers that their home is not going to sell at what they had hoped for. Honestly in Ann Arbor and Washtenaw County, most of our sellers are realistic, yet when the CMA is done it is still disappointing for them to hear it. The homes that are priced right and in remarkable condition are selling. Foreclosure's are also selling because in most cases they are 20% below the others listed in a subdivision. Now most foreclosure's are not in move in condition and some buyers are willing to fix them up to get a MUCH lower price. The average list price in Washtenaw County is down 16% from August of 2007. I guess I should say another 16%. year to date list price is only down 9.5% over 2007. The average sales price in Washtenaw County was $235,607 in August. That is down close to 19.5% compared to the same month last year. Closing are up 5% more than...
Easy way to convert affiliate program data
2008-09-05 04:38:00
I got a massive export of my affiliate data in a CSV data file in the hopes of using Excel to make some sense of it and hone in on my strong points. The data was that large I decided I wanted to import it into mysql in order to search andmanipulate it.I scoured the net for a tool that would help me get the data into the database….After much searching, I found CSV2SQL from info-pack.com which allowed me to automatically convert the CSV data into SQL queries that I could import directly into mysql. So easy to use, I loaded it on my PC, put a list of field names, file name for the input file and filename for the export file, it then converted the CSV to SQL queries automatically. I was then able to check out my affiliate program data in a much more detailed way! Tags Affiliate Programs, General, Websites

2008-08-28 02:00:00
I've just returned from my summer vacation, somewhat foolishly deciding to spend it under canvas in the south-west of the UK and expecting to get good weather. If my tent had leaked as badly in the last couple of weeks as data seems to have been leaking in the UK during the same period, I'd be in need of an aqualung by now! If it were an Olympic sport, Britain would have beaten China for pole position in the medals table! It all started with the loss of a memory stick by a UK Government contractor which contained somewhere around 120,000 records, including the details of 10,000 of our nation's most serious criminals. We then heard about a compromise at global hotel chain Best Western...

MS-Access Live Data in Excel

We have already learned tricks to open and work with external data sources like Access Table, dBase Files and Excel Table without linking them permanently. We have tried VBA and Query based methods too.We have yet to try the ODBC connection string in Source Connect Str Property in a Query to open external data files with this method. Even though we can link external data into MS-Access manually we will be trying the VBA based method for linking external files later. But, before going into all that we will try a different trick, for a change in the one way traffic, so to speak, of data flow from external data sources into Access. But it is not exactly one way data flow into Access we can update external data from within Access, with or without direct links. The Data Sources that we have opened after setting Source Database and Source Connect String Properties in Queries are updatable. The changes which you make on these data sets from within MS-Access will be updated back in their...
