Grading The Draft: 1999
2008-05-28 23:07:00 I decided to really take a close look at how good the Eagles have been at finding talent in the NFL draft. I will go over every draft since Andy Reid has been here, and give each player a grade. Now keep in mind Andy Reid has only technically been the GM since 2002, but he ...

2008-03-02 18:23:00 Randy Moss continues to explore all options in his first professional exposure to free agency. March 1st, Randy came up with an interesting idea. He reached out to Daunte Culpepper, his former quarterback with the Minnesota Vikings. The two former teammates discussed the possibility of finishing what they started in Minnesota on any NFL team interested, sources told ESPN.com. Randy Moss has 774 catches, 12,193 receiving yards and 124 touchdown receptions. He's been to six Pro Bowls. Moss set an NFL record by catching 23 touchdown passes from Tom Brady this season. This will be his 11th season, so lets see what he comes out with.

To Draft of Not to Draft: Daunte Culpepper
2007-08-04 18:49:00 Everyone loves an underdog. It's a statement that, despite our cynicism, we here at TJI Fantasy Sports cannot disagree with. So we turn our attention to perhaps the biggest underdog of the upcoming NFL season, Raiders QB Daunte Culpepper. We were really pulling for Daunte in Miami. He seemed to be the perfect fit for a team seeking an heir to one of the greatest of all time, Dan Marino. Alas, it wasn't meant to be, as Culpepper's injured knee kept him on IR for all but the first four games. Now, with almost two years between Culpepper and his last quality game, he's taking a shot at winning the job in Oakland. They wouldn't bring him in if he didn't have a shot, right? Josh McCown is certainly capable of keeping the QB's seat warm for 8 games before JaMarcus Russell is ready. Something is afoot in Raider Nation and TJI thinks that it's time to pull for Daunte once again. How great would it be to see #8 throwing TD bombs like it was 2004 again? While we agree that it would be t...

NFL Notes - Vince Young, Randy Moss, Daunte Culpepper
2007-08-02 13:56:00 Daunte Culpepper, QB, Oak - You've probably heard, but Culpepper signed a one-year deal with the Raiders. With JaMarcus Russell still holding out and the only other QB options in Oakland being Andrew Walter and Josh McCown, it's likely that Culpepper will start the season as the starter in Oakland. He's a better fantasy option than Russell or McCown, but these are still the Raiders after all so he has a ceiling. The Raiders will be throwing the ball a lot though, so Culpepper's worth a draft pick as a #2 QB in a 14 team or larger league. Randy Moss, WR, NE - Moss left practice with a groin/hamstring injury yesterday which is never a good sign, but is an especially bad sign considering how dinged up Moss has been the past few years. Don't panic but it's something worth keeping an eye on. Chad Scott, DB, NE - Defensive back Chad Scott injured his knee and is out for the season. The Pats had hoped Scott would step in to the starting spot while...

**BREAKING NEWS: Dolphins Release Daunte Culpepper**
2007-07-17 23:20:00 The Miami Dolphins have officially released Daunte Culpepper, this according to the team's official site. More on this as I hear it. **UPDATE**: ProFootballTalk is also reporting this. However, there are still no details as to why this has now at this particular time. His grievance hearing was set for tomorrow, but that is now unlikely to take place. Here are a few possible reasons for releasing Culpepper at this point in time: 1. Cam and Randy exhausted all possible trades and found possibilities and realized that, unless he was released, no team was interested in him. 2. Cam and Randy decided to simply move on and eliminate this distraction as we head towards training camp. 3. The team wants to use the little cap room that is saved on a free agent or a free agent-to-be. Maybe they have heard that the Jets are close to releasing Pete Kendall and want to have the extra cap room to act quickly and snatch him up. 4. The team wants to use the little cap relief provided t...

Daunte Culpepper/Ricky Williams Updates
2007-06-29 22:33:00 Just some afternoon updates for you guys. First of all, Daunte Culpepper's arbitratio hearing has been postponed until Tuesday. It was originally scheduled for today. It was delayed because of the person hearing the case had flight issues. This hearing is due to the fact that Culpepper is fighting to be released, saying the Dolphins violated his contract by not allowing him to practice in mini-camp. However, he was able to practice in individual drills. He just received no snaps in the team drills. That, my friends, is not grounds for any violations. It's the same as the 4th string QB not getting any reps. It happens. As for Ricky, John Clayton is reporting that Williams will apply for reinstatement come September. However, even if he is reinstated, it isn't likely he remains with the Dolphins. In fact, it's unsure if any team would want him. In my opinion, I think it's 50/50 right now as to whether or not Roger ...

So who's the "big name"?
2007-06-27 17:16:00 Outgoing Green Bay Packers director of player development George Koonce says that the Packers are going to add a "big name" on offense prior to training camp according to his comments on a Milwaukee radio show.So who's it going to be?Michael David Smith over at Pro Football Talk mentioned a couple of possible has-beens in Keyshawn Johnson, Daunte Culpepper, and Corey Dillon. Our very own Joe Davis says it should be Larry Johnson.Perhaps the best rumor may be offered at Packer Update when a source for the site suggests, "Fans might want to keep a very close eye on L.J. Smith (pictured). There are already rumblings that Ted Thompson will go hard after the former Rutgers star should he make it to free agency next March.?Smith is currently a tight end for the Philadelphia Eagles who is set to become a free agent next season. But could a trade be in the works yet this season?Photo credit: The Associated Press
Packer supposedly to bring in "Big name"
2007-06-26 17:13:00 George Koonce, who recently left the Green Bay Packer front office for an administrative job at Marquette University, has created a monster that has taken on a life of its own when he said during a radio interview that the Packers were going to bring in a "big name."Koonce's comments came on Milwaukee's "The Gary and Cliff Show" heard on WSSP (AM-1250).Koonce is quoted as saying, "The offseason's not over with quite yet, so don't be surprised if ... a big name (comes) in before training camp."Koonce said that it would be an offensive player, but declined to give any furthur information.Koonce added, "I'm not going to spill the beans, but ... I sniffed around a little bit before I left."Michael David Smith of ProFootballTalk.com suggests, "Wide receiver/ESPN analyst Keyshawn Johnson, soon-to-be-available Dolphins quarterback Daunte Culpepper and Chiefs running back Larry Johnson were the first names that came to mind."Former Patriots running back Corey Dillon has been mentioned ...

**BREAKING NEWS: Dolphins Acquire Jamie Martin; Release Daunte Culpepper**
2007-04-01 20:30:00 I hope everyone here is ready for some antacid, as here is our new QB of the future: That's right, everyone. Jamie Martin has been acquired by the Miami Dolphins in exchange for their second 2nd round pick (#60 overall). Following Martin's acquisition, the Dolphins announced that they had cut Daunte Culpepper and that Jamie Martin would be given a "leg up" to win the starting job. "He fits my system perfectly," coach Cam Cameron said early this morning, "He's got a great head on his shoulders. He completes over 65% of his passes. He's accurate and can read defenses." Coach Cameron went on to say that Martin is "Trent Green, but less decorated." We also caught up with GM Randy Mueller. "Jamie Martin is going to be a star in this league. We thought about him or Trent Green, but in the end, Martin was 5 months older and, therefore, had more life experience. That makes all the difference." So there you have it. You just wasted a few m...
