Dave Clark Five Catalog May Finally See New Release
2008-04-06 20:31:00 It took induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and the success of a digital release to make it happen. Dave Clark has told Billboard that he is looking into finally reissuing the band catalog.The Dave Clark Five albums have been out-of-print since the mid-90's when they were licensed to Hollywood Records. Clark wasn't happy with the way the company was handling the catalog and didn't renew the license.Jump ahead to this year and the band's induction into the Hall, one year after a controversial miss where many said they had actually gained entrance but had been bypassed by museum administration. To tie in with the induction, Clark and iTunes teamed up for a 28-track digital hits release which became a hit with 7,000 downloads of the full album and a total of 28,000 downloads of tracks (Because along had 9,000 of those).Clark tells Billboard, "I will get a package out by the fall. Finally, with their induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame on Sunday, it seems the drought is over. An article in USA Today states:"To mark the occasion, The Dave Clark Five: The Hits arrives Tuesday at iTunes on Clark's DC International label. A retail release will follow soon. 2008-02-28 22:12:00 Mike Smith, lead singer for the Dave Clark Five, passed away this morning at the age of 64. The cause of death was attributed to pneumonia as a complication from a spinal chord injury he received in 2003 that left him paralyzed below the ribs.Smith first met Dave Clark while playing on the soccer team for the St. George's Boy's Club. A number of years later, at age 17, Clark asked him to join his band to replace a departed lead singer and Smith took on the roles of lead, pianist, organist and, later in the band's career, guitarist.
