David Cameron and British MPs back Autism Sunday 2009
2009-02-06 18:10:00
David Cameron, Leader of the Opposition and British Parliamentarians are backing Autism Sunday. David Cameron said: ‘I would lke to express my support for Autism Sunday. As many as one in a hundred people could be affected by some form of autism, and it is important that we recognise and raise awareness of the difficulties ...
A Letter to David Cameron
2008-11-11 13:40:00
Dear Mr CameronI have over the last few months had my brain drilled and gouged by your constant nattering on the family box! My recent purchase of a flat-screen television, my timely payments by direct-debit for a color license and the fact that my settee was bought at great expense (on the understanding that its main function would be to support my family in comfort whilst watching the box) did not involve having to listen to you rabbiting away.I appreciate that you are not on every channel and certainly my flat screen came with a remote control but the batteries have gone and so I have to get up to change the channel every time your talking mug unexpectedly appears. What annoys me most is that you just talk! In actual fact I could compare you to that hockey-mum who recently provided America with a decades worth of cruel jokes as I found out that she can talk but then she never really said anything worth listening too. And by the way she was instrumental in ensuring that poor Mr Joh...

Will David Cameron Now Eschew The Centre Ground?
2008-07-04 06:22:00
The political genius of Tony Blair, and unquestionably the main reason that he won three successive British General Elections, was that he colonised the centre ground.  The traditional rhetoric of British politics was always predicated on the ideological divide between ?Left? (Labour) and ?Right? (Conservatives). In essence those on the left were socialists who believed ...
Mugabe looks foward to a Conservative Government.
2008-06-04 12:41:00
Jason Brown, Founder of The Political Wire has posted an interesting article on Robert Mugabe's sudden found love for the British Conservatives:After months of bad news for the Prime Minister, there is finally some good news for Gordon Brown, Robert Mugabe?s stooges have come out in support of the Conservatives party. Sam Akaki, a journalist for the government?s mouthpiece, the Harare Herald, claims that the British government has engineered Zimbabwe?s descent into chaos:For Mr Akati, the solution to all this unfair and nasty bullying of the Mugabe regime is the return of a Conservative government.Only with the Conservative Party in power in the UK can that country hope to salvage its rapidly deteriorating relationship with Zimbabwe and Africa.Isn?t it now plainly clear that the British relationship with Zimbabwe in particular and Africa in general will not improve until the Conservative Party takes over in the United Kingdom?Quite what he hopes David Cameron will do isn?t clear. P...
Would you volunteer to pay more tax?
2008-05-30 09:09:00
There is not much doubt that our next government will be a Conservative one. There is also little doubt that David Cameron will inherit massive public spending and an outrageous amount of debt. Especially if, as some pundits believe, Labour initiate a scorched earth policy. So to the point: something rather drastic is going to have be done to get the economy back on track. Cutting spending is one option, but as we know Cameron will be pretty much stuck with Labour spending plans. Raising taxes cannot contemplated in the current economical climate. Of course there is a ridiculous amount of waste that can be cut out, which will be George Osborne's first task as Chancellor - along with the rest of our new ministers. This morning I came up with a radical idea whilst driving to work listening to Radio 5. What if David Cameron asked us to volunteer to pay more tax? I'm not talking about a lot individually, maybe 1, 2 or 3%. To tell the truth I am in no way a wealthy man, however the recen...
David Cameron - Pro England - Pro The Union.
2008-05-23 16:20:00
In his speech to the Scottish Conservative Party Conference, David Cameron tried to convey his feelings that whilst there is a political imbalance across the United Kingdom which needs desperately to be addressed, the Union should be protected. You may have noticed that the banner at the top of my blog says "pro England" That is still true today as when it was designed for me by Liam Murray a good while ago (Liam also designed Iain Dale's new blog). In my mind being pro England does not necessitate the need to be anti any of the other members of the Union. I have lived and worked in Scotland and have a daughter born there. I served in the RN for 16 years and worked alongside many great friends from all four of the countries that make up our Kingdom. The Union just requires a measure of balance.David said:"Let me make it one hundred percent clear: I am passionate about the Union. I don't want to be the Prime Minister of England. I want to be Prime Minister of the United Kingdom - a...
Simon Heffer - A little bitter are we?
2008-05-14 09:26:00
I've just read Simon Heffer's article in the Telegraph. He's not a happy bunny - not happy at all. He is a little upset that David Cameron is not Tory enough for him. Let's be straight about this; this not Heffer questioning Cameron's motivation - it is an attack on the man Heffer never fancied for the job. This is a bitter little article penned by a man who cannot put his hand up and say "I was wrong". He claims that "the Conservative party still stands for very little". Well if that is true Simon, why are the only policies coming out of this Labour government, policies stolen from the Tories? Even today Brown will be announcing more Tory policies. It is time that Heffer and all the other Cameron haters shut the hell up - it's getting bloody embarrassing.I and many others have joined the Conservative party not because they are traditional Tories. We have joined because we genuinely believe that they have the right ideas for getting the country back on track. Heffer - get a bl...
David Cameron goes after Gordon Brown on 10p tax.
2008-05-06 13:33:00
At his monthly press conference David Cameron made it clear he was going after Gordon Brown on the 10p tax fiasco. With the Crewe & Nantwich seat up for grabs on the 22nd May he told the assembled press that overturning Labour's 7000 majority was the party's "top campaigning priority":Obviously it's going to be a tall order but we will give it our best shot. We have a strong local candidate and a real focus from the entire organisation. We've made a strong start, first out of the blocks, our message being delivered right across the constituency. Our message will focus in particular on the 10p tax rate and how Gordon Brown is hurting the people of Crewe with tax increases just as their cost of living is going up.David also talk about how he and Boris were to meet with Mayor Bloomberg of New York this week. The meeting will focus on education and Mayor Bloomberg's strong record in turning around failing schools in New York City. In a dig clearly aimed at Gordon Brown's ditheri...
David Cameron - Boris wins video - London Mayor.
2008-05-03 16:59:00
Here is a video showing David Cameron celebrating Boris Johnson's London Mayor Election win. Here is a top tip for team Cameron: get David on the TV more often in these behind the scenes moments. The more I see him, the more I'm sure about the party's future.Magic our Boris!
Tide Of Conservatism Impacting Great Britain?
2008-05-02 16:49:00
The Labor party of Gordon Brown has never recovered from its disatrous alliance with George Bush in the fiasco that is known as the Iraq war. A growing malaise has seeped into the minds of British citizens, a feeling the Labor party is not connected to their needs and desires. Yesterday’s sweping victory for the ...
Thursday's elections - How the day will be won. (local and Mayor).
2008-04-30 20:55:00
It's the evening before the day we have been waiting for. Tomorrow could be make or break time for Gordon Brown. Iain Dale is predicting the Conservatives will gain more than a hundred seats in the local elections and that Boris will win by 3-5%. On Boris I agree - on the local elections I disagree: I am expecting a total and utter demolition job of Labour. Every single person I have talked to is supremely incredibly exceedingly hacked browned p*ssed off with Gordon Brown and his incompetent Cabinet. I have total confidence that tomorrow will bring a crushing defeat that Labour will not be able recover from for many, many years. There are two possible outcomes following tomorrows results:As I have been predicting since last year, the Labour party will get rid of Gordon Brown in an attempt to save their own necks.Or, David Cameron will be in a position to call for the vote of no confidence in the government that many have been calling for.So my prediction: Boris to win. And a slaug...
Conservatives - 18 point lead in YouGov Poll.
2008-04-24 20:00:00
How long do you give Gordon Brown? The Conservatives now have an 18 point lead in the latest YouGov poll for the Daily Telegraph. Labour are down three per cent on a pathetic 26 points. Even the Lib Dems managed to get 17 per cent - it won't be long before Labour become the nations third party (unless they dump Gordon of course). The Conservative 18 point lead is the largest since 1987, and I've got a feeling that the gap is going to widen. No doubt, so do many Labour MPs who are now trying to choose between Gordon Brown and their mortgage repayments. Out of interest, this poll gives Cameron a 50 plus majority.Happy days.
David Cameron goes back to School.
2008-04-10 13:07:00
I enjoyed watching this video. It shows that some Schools can get it right and the education system is not beyond saving. The one thing I noticed was that the children were in uniform. I've read recently that many Heads are telling us that a strict uniform policy is a real boost to behaviour and productivity in the classroom. I'd like to see a return to blazers and ties in all Schools.
David Cameron's Spring Conference Speech - Family.
2008-03-15 17:04:00
David Cameron gave his Spring Conference Speech today. The speech was entitled "Yes, we can get the change we really want". The main focus of the speech was how family is the most important thing in his life and how family can mend our broken society. Personally I don't think that the breakdown of the family is the largest contributor to our broken society, in my opinion, it is the fact that many in our society no longer feel SHAME for their actions. Here is a section from David's speech:"Today I want to talk to you about a simple ambition that I have for our country. It's at the heart of what I believe, and what I believe our country needs. My ambition is to make Britain more family-friendly. To make our country a better place to bring up children. Not just because it's the right thing to do, not just because my family is the most important thing in my life, but because families should be the most important thing in our country's life. Why? We all know why. Because those kids at...
Budget, GPs & Economy - Brown and Darling are incompetent and untrustworthy
2008-03-11 07:18:00
I woke up this morning to my Blackberry alerting me to three press releases, all of them were in some way critical of Gordon Brown and Alistair Darling. The first from the Press Association described how 59% of those questioned in a YouGov survey were sceptical about the Government's anti-pollution justification for taxes on motoring and flying. The survey found that most people believed that Darling's "green taxes" on flights and 4x4s (to be announced in tomorrows budget) are mainly to fill the government's coffers - not to encourage us to be greener. As George Osborne points out, this will always be public opinion if Brown and Darling do not promise to use the money collected to reduce tax in other areas. The second news alert from George Monbiot of the Guardian accuses the Government of a "bare faced lie" over the GP opening hours saga, George says:The government launched its campaign a year ago, with a press release published by the Department of Health. This claimed that a re...
Nick Clegg - I'm really starting to dislike him.
2008-03-09 23:22:00
If David Cameron decided to jump off a cliff, there's a chance that he may survive - right up until the point that Nick Clegg lands on top of him. I don't mind politician's stealing the odd good idea, but Nick Clegg is blatantly copying everything that Cameron says he's going to do. It's like the kid who hasn't done his homework and just copies his mate's work - changing a few words to avoid plagiarism.
David Cameron's Military Covenant Commission.
2008-03-04 13:43:00
David Cameron held a press conference this morning to announce the launch of Commission to look at ways of restoring the Military Covenant, the special agreement between the Armed Forces and the Nation. Being an ex-serviceman this is a subject close to my heart and I can assure you that the covenant has been broken. David Cameron said: "Over the decades, our Armed Forces have fully honoured their part in the Military Covenant. It is time that we as a nation think about how we can better fulfil our side of the deal."If you feel that you have something to add to the commission, they are asking that you do just that. To play a part in mending the covenant please click on the banner above and then click on the "Your views" tab.
David Cameron: Conservative bloggers are far from organised.
2008-03-01 12:12:00
Over the last year and a bit that I've been blogging my opinion of the UK's political blogosphere has changed. When I first got into it, I believed that it was dominated by Conservative bloggers. Now I believe that whilst our numbers are greater, we fail to promote our party's policy to the same extent of our Labour counterparts. This may be a figment of my imagination, but Labour bloggers seem to singing off the same hymn sheet, and I've always had the suspicion that they are being guided by the Labour party. Conservative bloggers on the other hand seem to be individuals making comment on how they think the Conservative party should be run. Very few have any real contact with the upper echelons of the party. Even Iain Dale, who has contacts, does not push out party propaganda and at times is very critical (when deserved) of the shadow cabinet. Are we missing something? Should we be using this massive advertising tool to promote the party rather than our own opinion? Of course th...
A Green message to David Cameron. E-Day.
2008-02-29 13:27:00
Being a bit of a man-made climate change sceptic, I had to have a little chuckle over the result of E-Day. E-Day was billed as the UK's first energy saving day. Unfortunately for the organiser Dr Matt Prescott, when the energy consumed during the trial was measured it turned out to be slightly more than the "business-as-usual" projection. This could be blamed on a slight reduction in temperature during the day.No doubt my little chuckle will enrage environmentalists. However, I also get a little peeved when I'm told by people such as Dr Richard Chartres, the Bishop of London, that it's a "moral imperative" to believe in something that I'm very sceptical about. In a way I applaud Dr Prescott for trying to do something about a matter he passionately believes in. I also have no problem with the way he's gone about achieving his goals. The Doctor called on people to use freedom of choice to take action - and that, I'm all for. What I'm against is compulsion to pay green taxes.The...
David Cameron? Sick Man Of England!
2008-02-22 17:09:00
There is politics and there is politics, but occasionally a politician crosses the line of human decency. David Cameron, leader of England’s Conservative Party, has every right and responsibility to attack the Labor government of Gordon Brown. However, his latest tirade was in bad taste and unbecoming an individual who seeks leadership of a nation. ...
Iain Dale's vote of No Confidence in Gordon Brown.
2008-02-18 20:59:00
Iain Dale is urging David Cameron to Table a No Confidence Vote in Gordon Brown. There are quite a few arguing for and against such action in Iain's comment section. I'm going with Iain 100% by saying that there is a damn good reason that now is the time. Forget Northern Rock, forget dodgy donations, forget lost personal data, forget I.D Cards, forget the Lisbon treaty, forget that Labour are behind in polls and forget that those same polls show the public have lost confidence in the Brown/Darling partnership to run the economy. In my opinion the outstanding reason for Cameron to table a No Confidence Vote is: question dodging.I know all politicians dodge questions. They dodge questions about how things have gone wrong or things the have failed to do. What a politician should never have to do is dodge a question about his or her party's own policy. On that, a politician should be able to give honest answers to honest questions. A politician should feel comfortable defending their...

Charles Clarke - Gordon Brown is a Ditherer
2008-02-09 21:08:00
Charles Clarke has made my prediction of Gordon Brown being given the boot by May, a whole lot more credible today. Speaking to Petronella Wyatt of the Daily Mail, Clarke has launched into what can only be described as a scathing attack on the Prime Minister. Not only that, he even has the bottle (I wonder if he has a spare one for Brown) to praise David Cameron for his decisiveness over the expenses fiasco. This is just a small taste of the Clarke's criticism of Brown:"Sadly, as far as I have learned, his relationship with the Treasury has not improved at all. The senior Civil Service, as a whole, is very pessimistic about the way he is running the country. This is something else he must address. "The art of politics is about fast reactions. When something comes along, you have to respond very quickly or it runs away from you. "You saw it with David Cameron over MPs' expenses when he was out, very fast, dealing with the situation. Gordon must stop being a ditherer. He lacks courag...
PMQs - 06/02/08 Gordon Brown, just answer a bloody question - part two.
2008-02-06 16:13:00
I've had to force myself to write something about this week's PMQ's. It was, all in all, a total repeat of last week's pathetic performance. David Cameron can't be blamed; he's doing his job i.e. asking questions that the public want answers to. Unfortunately Gordon Brown now sees it as perfectly acceptable not to answer them. The speaker seems not to care and even allows Brown to question Cameron - it's a sodding farce. We've got Labour back-benchers asking questions like "I think the Prime Minister is more super than Super-Duper Tuesday, will the Prime Minister agree with me?"I don't know if Cameron is pleased or frustrated (possibly both) by Brown's dodging, but I would certainly be asking myself "why should I bother to prepare questions" - David may as well spend the time at the dispatch box chatting about the weather. No doubt Brown would point out that the weather has improved dramatically since 1997, and any recent global warming was caused by Tory boom and bust pol...
David Cameron shows Brown how to lead a party - Expenses
2008-02-05 14:11:00
Once again David Cameron has taken the lead on the tough decisions. He hasn't waited for a fake inquiry to publish a nonsense report - he's got on and behaved in the way any decent party leader should - by acting decisively. From July, all frontbench MPs will register details of any Commons allowances spent - and any relatives they employ. This information will be published for public scrutiny each April from then on. All other Conservative MPs have been urged to follow suit. David told the press:"I completely understand that the public do have a greater right to know about the use of allowances, expenses, staff, costs and the like and so we do need to show greater transparency. "If they (MPs) employ a member of their family, that should be declared and at what salary band. "I also believe we should move to a system where the House of Commons effectively employs our staff, rather than us doing it ourselves. "For many years, a culture grew up in Westminster where allowances were a...
Behind the scenes of this week's PMQs - webcameron.
2008-02-03 17:14:00
I've just come across this excellent video from webcameron. It gives us an insight on how David Cameron prepares for Prime Minister's Questions. I don't know why, but it left me feeling even more sure that David is genuine in his passion for a better future for this country. See what you think:I had to laugh when this text appeared on the screen: "Due to broadcasting restrictions we are not permitted to show the Prime Minister?s responses."What Bloody responses?
Cameron - Front bench to register employed family.
2008-02-01 12:21:00
David has once again shown a decisiveness not to be found in Gordon Brown's short list of attributes. In response to the Derek Conway fiasco (which he dealt with within 48 hrs) he has ordered a ring-round of Conservative MPs to find out how many employ family members. It turns out that about 70 of them do. Taking the bull by the horns he has announced that all front bench MPs will register (in the members' register of interests) relatives working for them from the 1st of April. This is not a total solution to the problem but it does show that he is taking the problem seriously and taking immediate action. Unlike Brown, he didn't need to set up a committee at the tax payers' expense, and he didn't wait months or years for the results. He acted:"I think there's a need for greater transparency or openness when it comes to MPs' pay and staff and expenses and allowances. "As a first step I will be asking my front bench colleagues from April this year to register, in the members' ...
PMQs - 30/01/08 Gordon Brown, just answer a bloody question.
2008-01-31 20:45:00
I've just caught up with yesterday's PMQs. Until late 2006 I considered myself a Labour supporter, all be it a disaffected one. I then went through a stage of not being able to call myself aligned to any party. However through blogging I became more aware of the political situation in this country and decided to become a member the Conservative Party. The reason I became disillusioned and ended my life long support of the Labour Party? - Incompetence - pure and simple. I voted Labour in their last three election victories. The latter with a gnawing doubt that I was making a mistake, but I was pinning my hopes on Labour finally getting to grips with governance. You see I was brought up in Barnsley, South Yorkshire where enterprising (i.e. wear a red rosette) donkeys really can make it to Westminster. That gnawing doubt turned into certainty and I realised I'd been a fool. I've explained all this because I want you to know that I'm not just another Tory blogger slagging Labour off...
Derek Conway - Whip removal is painless, but it brings on many changes.
2008-01-29 18:54:00
Derek Conway - where to begin. I've got to write something because I've been accused of not commenting on it because I'm a conservative party member. Well that's bollox. I've been working 12 hours shifts for the last five days, and frankly I have not been all that arsed about blogging when I've arrived home. So here is my opinion: Derek Conway has been a foolish and very possibly a dishonest man. David Cameron has removed the whip, and as I commented on Conservativehome last night, he should have had it inserted rapidly first. If the allegations are true, then he has no place in the party that I'm a member of.David Cameron has acted swiftly and decisively. I think we can be sure that if he was in Gordon Brown's shoes, then Hain, Harman, and Alexander would - quite rightly, be told to "do one" (as my 15 year old daughter would say). I hope this highlights Brown's cowardice and Labour's acceptance of rule breaking. The news broke, David investigated, he slept on it and came ...
Prime Minister's Questions (PMQs) 16 January 2008
2008-01-16 17:35:00
I missed PMQs today due to being in bed (working nights), but I understand (from reading comments on Iain Dale's Blog) that Cameron put in a decent performance, and that Gordon Brown has resorted to not answering questions put to him by the opposition. I hope this will come across in any clips shown on the news throughout the evening. Quite a few people are also starting to question the non-partisan status of the speaker. I'm hoping to watch it sometime this evening, after which I will update this post on my reading of the session. You can watch today's PMQs by clicking HERE. Please feel free to leave your opinion in the comments. Who won? how did Clegg do?
Gordon Brown - is he, or is he not, the Prime Minister?
2008-01-14 11:34:00
I understand that Gordon Brown has told The Sun that Peter Hain's future as a member of the cabinet is out of his hands. What a peculiar statement. Surely Hain has been carpeted, and just as surely both he and Gordon Brown know whether he is going to be found guilty by the Electoral Commission and the Parliamentary Commissioner for Standards. They both know the rules. And in that case if Gordon Brown is surely the Prime Minister he should have made one of the two following statements:. Peter Hain has acted with the utmost integrity and I'm sure he will be found to have acted within the rules when the Electoral Commission and the Parliamentary Commissioner for Standards conclude their investigation. Therefore, I give Peter Hain my full and unconditional support.. Peter Hain and I have discussed the circumstances surrounding the investigation into donations made to his deputy leadership campaign. We both agree that mistakes have been made. Mistakes that are not acceptable from a sen...
David Cameron and Social Policy
2008-01-12 14:05:00
Does Tory leader David Cameron’s new welfare plan work? This from his newsletter to supporters: “Our radical programme is designed to end the culture of long-term welfare dependency, and involves measures such as time limits on out-of-work benefits and US-style return-to-work programmes for jobseekers.” Who are these people, and how did this begin? Well, they are the ...
The Sun's Ipsos Mori poll puts David's Conservatives ten points clear of Go
2008-01-12 10:55:00
I'm not sure but does The Sun's political editor GEORGE PASCOE-WATSON lean a little to the left? George points out that Gordon Brown enjoys a four point lead over David Cameron as "most capable PM" in the paper's recently (January 9 and 10, 2008) commissioned Ipsos Mori poll. He also points out that Brown has an 18 per cent lead on handling a crisis best and is six points ahead on understanding problems facing Britain. It's not until you get past the headline (Brown is still the top man (just)) of George's article that you discover that the Conservatives have extended their lead to 42% - ten points clear of Labour. The LibDems under Nick Clegg are dragging arse on 15%. I know The Sun and Murdoch are supposedly warming towards David Cameron, but the tone of George's article does not support that theory. This is not the 2008 start Gordon Brown wished for. Long may it deteriorate.
Tory leader David Cameron sets out back-to-work plans for long-term unemplo
2008-01-08 15:20:00
Conservative Party leader David Cameron has unveiled a series of measures which, he claims, will get the long-term unemployed back into work. The Opposition leader insisted that work was the best way out of poverty, as he d
David Cameron's China Speech Video.
2007-12-22 20:09:00
Just a quick one. I've just watched David Cameron's China speech, and personally I was impressed. It's not easy to be both critical and diplomatic at the same time, but I feel that David pulled it off. I don't think the Chinese government will be happy with what David had to say, but I believe they will understand why he said it.You can watch the video by clicking HERE.
David Cameron - Coal is the new Green Fuel CCS
2007-12-20 19:58:00
David Cameron is promoting CCS (carbon capture and storage) during his trip to China this week:"Right now, at least a dozen CCS pilots are ready to launch around the world and the UK is supporting the EU-China Near Zero Emission coal project. "But even though in the UK we have the depleted oil and gas fields that are ideal for testing this technology, not a single pilot is yet taking place in Britain. "We cannot afford this kind of delay." Current uncertainty in the global supply of oil and gas has brought coal back as a viable source of energy. Coal is widely available, according to the World coal Institute there are enough reserves to last 164 years (Oil 41 years, Gas 67 years) at current production rates. The International Energy Agency has a Clean Coal Centre, it?s managing director, John Topper, said: "If you are in China or India where you have huge resources of coal and you have elements of the population that do not have access to electricity then your driver is to build and ...
David Cameron's Response to Gordon Brown's Statement on the EU Treaty.
2007-12-18 22:24:00
I'm a bit late with this as it was posted on the Conservative Website yesterday. However I do think it's worth reading if you didn't catch it earlier:Turning to the constitution, the key issue is the referendum. Isn't it the case that he won't restore trust in politics unless he keeps his promise to hold one? Labour MPs put the commitment to a referendum in their election addresses. Trade unionists voted for it in the TUC. Every opinion poll shows it's what people want. This issue isn't going to go away.In trying to justify breaking his promise, the Prime Minister says this Treaty is not the Constitution. Doesn't he understand this simply won't wash? The German Chancellor, the Irish Prime Minister, and the Spanish Foreign Minister all completely undermine what the Prime Minister says by saying the Treaty is pretty much the same as the Constitution. And the author of the constitution, Giscard D'Estaing, said last month that the Constitution's "essential points?. re-appear w...
David Cameron's visit to Washington video - part two
2007-12-05 21:42:00
This is part two of David Cameron's visit to Washington. It looks like David had quite a busy day. Drinks with Colin Powell, the man who was born in Harlem in 1937 and made to Secretary of State, must have been interesting.
David Cameron's visit to Washington video - part one
2007-12-02 17:56:00
I came across this video on Webcameron, it's not a website that I visit very often, but I'm glad that I did today. I hope you will agree that this is an excellent short film. I'll post the rest of the Washington visit films when they become available.
David Cameron on The Andrew Marr Show.
2007-12-02 10:41:00
I've just watched Andrew Marr interview David Cameron. I've got to say that David once again showed why he is the leader of the Conservative party. Ever since his speech during the party leadership campaign, David has demonstrated time and again to be an articulate and savvy party figurehead. Without going overboard he established Gordon Brown's recent antics to be exactly what they are - spin.David's analogy of the current Labour donation debacle was right on the money, David said: "Gordon Brown is a man who has been caught with a gun, waving it about, who then says we we need better gun control" (not word for word but near enough). Andrew Marr tried to trip Cameron up on a few occasions but did not seem to trying too hard. I think that could be because when it comes to sleaze, David has done a good job of eradicating it from the party. You will find that when someone hostile to the Conservatives attempts an attack, they have to hark back to a period of 10 to 20 years ago. That...
David Cameron brings back Patrick Mercer as forces welfare advisor.
2007-11-30 11:12:00
Tory MP Patrick Mercer has been asked to come back into the Conservative party fold. He will advise how the treatment of our troops and their families can be improved. Patrick will be reporting to Shadow Defence Secretary Liam Fox who is preparing a report outlining Tory proposals for armed forces welfare.Patrick said: "On the back of the criticism of the Government's handling of defence issues, it's become clear the military covenant is seriously broken. "If your husband's somewhere in Helmand province, you don't want to meet drug dealers and the like living in old married quarters adjacent to your family." Patrick Mercer, being a very popular former commanding officer of the Sherwood Foresters is an excellent choice for the position,

David Cameron's address to the CBI - the end of big government.
2007-11-27 10:57:00
David Cameron is about to address the CBI and he's got a massive amount of ammunition to use against Gordon Brown and his government in crisis. We all know that David is a fine speaker and this could be his most important speech so far.The following is taken from David's speech:Big government and the bureaucratic age are institutionally wasteful. But it's worse than that:what really gets me is the deliberate extravagance committed by the people at the top of the government machine. The administrators and managers and quangocrats who administer public money on our behalf. Apparently managers of the exams watchdog, the Qualifications and Curriculum Authority spent more than £1.6 million of taxpayers money in just six months - on hotels and conference centres for themselves.Officials at the Home Office spend £800,000 a year on taxis - charged straight to you and me. The MoD has committed £2.3 billion to a new headquarters for itself - while our troops in Iraq and Afghanistan are goi...
David Cameron says we need tougher rape laws.
2007-11-12 07:50:00
Yesterday in a speech given in London at the Conservative Women's Organisation conference, David Cameron called for tougher rape laws. Cameron said: "Studies have shown that as many as one in two young men believe there are some circumstances when it's okay to force a woman to have sex. To my mind, this is an example of moral collapse." Only one in twenty rape cases end in a conviction - this equates to a massive decline in the conviction rate over the last 30 years. It is also a sad fact that though we are supposedly becoming more civilised, the length of time served in prison has also dropped to around seven years on average. There is however one other point that needs to be sorted out: And that is the naming of suspects before being found guilty. To be labelled a rapist, even if found innocent, can have a devastating effect on a person's life. And there have also been calls for those who have cried wolf to be named. At present the victim remains anonymous even if they a...
Kate Moss thought David Cameron was a plumber
2007-11-10 22:09:00
David Cameron has revealed that when he met Kate Moss she thought he was a plumber."I went to a charitable dinner the other night and Philip Green came up to me and said, 'Would you like to meet Kate Moss?' So I said, 'Well, of course I'd like to meet Kate Moss.' "I went over to her table and on the way over I thought, what on earth am I going to say? "And I remembered she actually has a house in my constituency and we'd had these terrible floods in West Oxfordshire and so I said, 'Very nice to meet you, very sorry about the flooding in your house. "I know your local pub has been flooded, I've been to see the publican and I know you like to go to the pub and so I know it's going to re-open in six months.' "So I went on like this, twittering on, and she turned around and said, 'God, you sound like a really useful guy, can I have your phone number?"' "I went back to my table and said, 'The good news is, I met Kate Moss and she wanted my telephone number. The...

Should David Cameron agree to a referendum on a ratified EU Treaty?
2007-10-26 20:19:00
David Cameron has a very difficult decision to make on whether to agree to a referendum on a ratified EU Treaty. I can understand his dilemma. I want a referendum on the treaty before it is ratified. We were promised one and Gordon Brown has gone back on that promise because he knows we will vote no if given our democratic choice. The problem with agreeing to call a referendum if he comes into power after the any ratification of the Treaty, is the massive discord it would cause with the rest of the EU. There would be I think, calls from other member states for us to agree to keep the Treaty or leave the EU, full stop.I think David has to give this problem a lot of thought, given that it could come down to a in or out decision. My gut feeling would be to call the referendum and face the consequences, but I am not going to be in David's position. We have the luxury of making our choices without having to pick up the pieces if it all goes wrong. There is no doubt it is a lot ea...

David Cameron on the EU Treaty and why we should have a Referendum.
2007-10-19 13:11:00
David Cameron said:"I believe in Parliamentary democracy, I think our MPs should be the ones that scrutinise legislation. But when it comes to the question of how we are governed as a country, who runs the country, I don't think members of Parliament have the right to transfer that power away without asking the British people first. And that's why there should be a referendum when we are talking about these things." Who do you trust, David Cameron or Gordon Brown?
