2008-03-18 06:07:00 Heavy Metal, the 1970s sci-fi fantasy magazine and subsequent 1981 movie, is returning to the big screen again. Fight Club's David Fincher is spearheading the animated film which will feature eight or nine individual animated segments, each of which will be directed by a different person, similar to Animatrix. While the return of Heavy Metal could be prone to utter destruction in anyone else's hands, the fact that the visionary filmmaker David Fincher is the one spearheading the entire project actually means this could become something very unique.

But, based on the Variety story and a little internet pootling, we know that Heavy Metal was specialised in stories that were particularly violent and 'erotic' (which in this instance is a politer term for 'lotsa boobies'). Sounds interesting.Fincher will direct one segment of the nine-part anthology, with other directors including Kevin Eastman (owner of Heavy Metal) and Tim Miller. 2007-10-23 09:55:00 This is a superlative film in every area. As you would expect from David Fincher, the film looks great giving the audience an extra filthy look to every scene. The script is also great and even though this has a 2h 30 mins running time, you are hooked by the twists and turns in the story. Based on true events surrounding the infamous Zodiac killer in America in the 1960s and 1970s, Jake Gyllenhaal plays a cartoonist on the San Francisco Chronicle who doggedly keeps on the case when others fall by the wayside over the years. Some excellent performances from Robert Downey Jr and Mark Ruffalo make this an essential watch this year. This is a JM RECOMMENDS.
