David Garrard signs Contract Extension: 6 years, 60 Million!
2008-04-07 23:18:00 [editor's note, by River City Rage]: I'm on the road right now, so this is a bit stale. Thanks Freek1969 for posting this!David's contract is fantastic. It's good for the team and it's good for David. Fantastic! I'll be back in full force tomorrow![End Note] WOW! 6 year deal worth $60 million dollars...$20 million of it is guaranteed...just under Tony Romo's $28 million guaranteed. he was asking for Romo kind of money and he came pretty darn close, though Romo totally turned the Cowboys franchise aroun. Do we all think that Garrard is truly worth that in the long run? Do we draft a QB and have him sit behind Garrard for a few years?
Jack Del Rio signs 5 year contract: David Garrard just around the corner!
2008-04-03 23:48:00 There's a whole lot of quiet days during the offseason. Days where the best thing you can hope to find is a vague draft preview or a juicy rumor. Then there are days like today where we get two big fat stories that put a smile on your face and a spring in your step because you know that the long term future of your favorite franchise is coming together quite nicely. First thing I do every morning is check my RSS Reader for the latest round of stories off the internet. On any other Thursday for the last many weeks it's been the same old stuff. JagNation will have a scoop about a draft prospect, Ask Vic will sarcastically not answer questions, and I'll wonder if anything of substance will happen. We've got quite a few weeks until the draft, though it's rolling ever closer. It's just plain slow. Then I see this (note, that story is no longer posted), saying that Head Coach Jack Del Rio signed a contract extension and would have a press confer...
David Garrard Contract Extension: How Much is he Worth?
2008-03-21 05:26:00 We've seen a few reports this week regarding an imminent contract extension for Quarterback David Garrard. Sort of. First we had the NFL.com report saying that the parties were "closing in" on a new contract. Good news, I'd like to see Garrard locked up long term with a nice fat (incentive laden) contract that secures our short and medium term future. Except that it might not be so close as Vito Stellino reports: "Nothing is any different today than it was two months ago,'' Al Irby said Wednesday, despite a report on the NFL Network that the two sides would reach a deal soon. "Maybe this week, maybe next week. "It could take two days, two weeks or not get done at all. This is the way negotiations go. One minute you're going down the right track, but then a snag can set you back.'' Irby said he's staying positive because the two sides are in constant communication, but he added that he thought the deal would be finished by now. Coming with these often conflictin...
David Garrard, Marry Garrard [Digg]
2008-01-13 06:56:00 "He'll bring home a bunch of chicken wings," says Mary Garrard, "and I tell him, 'Are you going to eat every one of them?' David Garrard completed 22-of-33 passes for 278 yards, three touchdowns, and an interception in the Jags' season ending loss to New England.

David Garrard - CBS Interview - 3:30 - Crohn's Focus?
2008-01-12 20:31:00 CBS is doing a special on Jacksonville Jaguars quarterback David Garrard (and wife Mary) at 3:30. It will be about his "remarkable journey", and I assume it will focus on or at least highlight the football player's battle with Crohn's Disease.Stay tuned for details and possibly a link to the inverview. As you know, I am a big football fan, and am dissapointed that I can't really cheer for my favorite athlete with Crohn's disease today...on account of them playing my team....the New England Patriots. Search my blog for several articles detailing David Garrard's Battle with Chron's.-ScottMore info on his Crohn's (from jacksonville.com interview)One test came in 2004, when he had surgery for Crohn's disease, a painful inflammation of the intestines. He takes medication every eight weeks, a 3?-hour procedure; his next appointment is Tuesday, three days after playing the Pittsburgh Steelers in the first round of the playoffs tonight."It's a horrible disease, something that a lot...
Upstart Jaguars and David Garrard Charge Into Foxboro For AFC Battle
2008-01-10 05:20:00 By DavidKayeEntrenched in a quarterback struggle at the beginning of the season with embattled signal caller Byron Leftwich, backup David Garrard was presented with a myriad of challenges when he was unexpectedly propelled to the starting position by head coach Jack Del Rio.After being drafted out of East Carolina in the 2002 draft, Garrard was relegated to the status of bench warmer for the previous four seasons in which he played a mere 17games and connected for eight touchdowns. When first-round pick Byron Leftwich tragically endured another debilitating injury last season, Garrard steered the Jaguars to a 5-5 mark, including a resounding 44-17 thrashing of the eventual Super Bowl champion Colts. Faced with a significant decision as to which individual he sensed was ready to guide his team in the necessary direction in the years to come, Del Rio chose Garrard over the proven commodity in Leftwich. Unbenounced to most, Garrard has not only directed the Jaguars on a pathway to succ...

David Garrard: 10th best Quarterback in the NFL?
2007-12-13 19:59:00 First off, a little housekeeping. It's been a long while since I've done anything with the sidebar content here at Big Cat Country. I decided to take a more forward look and discarded the 2007 SB Nation Mock Draft, and replace it with everything you need to know about the upcoming off-season. Currently, I've got the list of Jaguars Free Agents, and soon to come will be Salary Cap, Important Dates, and Potential Free Agents. It's not much, but as part of my mission to have everything a fan needs to understand the Jaguars, it's the least I can do. Quarterback Props for Garrard: Scout.com via ESPN decided to go through and rank the top 64 quarterbacks in the NFL. You'll be happy to know that they almost got it right, putting David Garrard in the top ten. Actually, at number ten, to be specific. 10. David Garrard Starter, Jacksonville Jaguars There were a lot of questions concerning Garrard when the Jaguars released Byron Leftwich at the start o...
David Garrard Story I found Detailing His Crohn's, Surgery and Remicade
2007-10-26 14:51:00 (From December 2005)A vertical scar begins just below David Garrard's navel. He can see it when he lifts up his shirt, when he gets in and out of his Jaguars uniform, when he prepares for bed."It's not that bad," Garrard, Jacksonville's new starting quarterback, said Tuesday at Alltel Stadium. "I've seen people with scars all over their stomach. Mine is just about three inches."Garrard's blemish is a reminder of the Crohn's disease he has fought for two years and of how he is approaching the biggest start of his pro career on Sunday, when the Jaguars (9-3) are host to the undefeated Indianapolis Colts (12-0)."Even keel," said Garrard, 27, who will make his second consecutive start since Byron Leftwich broke his left ankle Nov. 27. "We're out here playing a game that can be taken away at any time. With me, that almost happened."If the Colts' Peyton Manning is the best-known quarterback in the N.F.L., Garrard may be its least known, although he faced Manning in his only start ...
Jaguars Name David Garrard Starter, Boot Byron Leftwich
2007-09-01 09:37:00 Remember what I said earlier about Byron Leftwich? Yeah, never mind. In a surprise move, the Jacksonville Jaguars have named David Garrard as their starting quarterback and have announced that they're shipping Byron Leftwich out of town as fast as they can. From the Jags' official site: The Jaguars will announce at a press conference late Friday afternoon their intention to trade quarterback Byron Leftwich prior to Saturday's six p.m. deadline for cutting the roster to 53 players. Head coach Jack Del Rio will simultaneously announce that David Garrard is the team's new official starting quarterback. "We've gone through the offseason, training camp and the preseason with Byron as our starter, but after thorough ongoing evaluation of the entire body of work, we have made the decision that David gives us the best chance to win," Del Rio said. "We're naming David as our starting quarterback. Wow. I had a been a fan of Leftwich, touting him as a sleeper this yea...
