So what's growing in the music industry?Vinyl.According to Nielsen SoundScan, 858,000 vinyl LPs were purchased in 2006, 1,000,000 in 2007 and 2008 is projected to go to 1,600,000.In addition, turntable sales, which were at 275,000 in 2006, jumped sharply to 500,000 last year.Maybe it's not Vintage vinyl, but that big twelve-inch record may be back.Speaking of vinyl, the release of Metallica's album Master of Puppets on heavy duty vinyl that was scheduled for June 17 has been moved to July 15. Lemmy will not only include footage and an interview with Kilmister, but also his bandmates and others like Mick Jones, Alice Cooper and Slash.The film is being produced and directed by Greg Oliver and Wes Orshoski using HD Video and 16-mm film. Friday 26th October.Our previous information re: the release was unfortunately incorrect, for which many apologies to all eager fans (and there are plenty in Brazil). Apparently there was a delay with the local production of the sleeve packaging, but Sony Brazil didn't inform Sony Central, who didn't inform us. Sony Brazil do say 'we're doing our best to have it very soon in stores', and in fact are planning a campaign with the Saraiva chain, so look out for it there.Other release news: as well as the newest chart triumphs in Estonia and South Africa (No. 1 in both), the DVD is now available in Chile and Hong Kong, and is still scheduled for Wednesday 7th November in Japan. That is to say, carbon neutral from the production process, right down to how it is distributed. 2006-12-02 16:13:17 Pink Floyd's David Gilmour is to release three new tracks in tribute to former band member and friend Syd Barrett, he has announced.Gilmour confirmed details of his "Arnold Layne" single on his official website, dedicating the release to Barrett, who died this summer of pancreatic cancer.The material consists of an acoustic take on "Dark Globe" plus two versions of Pink Floyd's first-ever single, "Arnold Layne," all recorded at Gilmour's shows earlier this year at London's Royal Albert Hall.One features David Bowie on vocals and the other Richard Wright from Pink Floyd. Both tracks were initially written by Barrett.The songs will all be available to download from Christmas Day but will also be released to shops in December.Meanwhile, it was revealed last week that Barrett left around 1.2 million to his family in his will.
