Peter Davies on Zimbabwe: Images of Despair; is Military Rule under Martial
2008-12-23 15:47:00
People in Zimbabwe are now predicting that Mugabe will use the Cholera Crisis as an excuse to declare a national state of emergency so that he can ?legally? impose brutal Military Rule under Martial Law in Zimbabwe. This is something every ordinary citizen of Zimbabwe dreads. (See??Soldier?s Mutiny?? on December 9). This week, Daily Mail reporter ...
Peter Davies on Zimbabwe: Soldiers? Mutiny?
2008-12-09 17:53:00
Do the recent street battles between Zimbabwe?s Soldiers and Police in Harare mean Mugabe is losing control? Are Zimbabwe?s soldiers staging a rolling mutiny? Most of the media coverage suggests this is what is happening. The Institute for War and Peace Reporting ? an excellent source of information in troubled areas of the world ? reported ...

Peter Davies on Zimbabwe, Burma, China and All That
2008-05-12 12:41:00
Right now, apart from the US Democrat Nomination ?race?, Western world media attention is focussed on the Burma Crisis. And the West is getting hot under the collar about it because the Burmese Military Junta wants to be seen to be the ...

Peter Davies on Zimbabwe - wave of fear
2008-04-14 12:54:00
A wave of fear is sweeping across Zimbabwe as terror reigns, not only in towns and cities but also in rural areas, where people are beaten and otherwise punished for having supported the opposition. Cathy Buckle this week quotes one victim from a small country town telling her, ??it is terrible, there are injured people ...
Peter Davies on Zimbabwe - ?Exhausted and Betrayed?
2008-04-07 16:42:00
??We stand exhausted and betrayed at this critical moment in Zimbabwe?s crisis?? Cathy Buckle wrote from Zimbabwe on Sunday. The fact that the results of the presidential elections ? due a week ago ? have still not been announced makes it a dead cert that Mugabe and his Zanu-PF party lost them. Zanu-PF is demanding a ...
Peter Davies on Zimbabwe - Elections in chaos
2008-04-02 17:05:00
The Zimbabwe elections are in chaos (Reuters). At last! A serving British Army General has exposed the British Army?s ?hearts and minds? strategy for the failure that it is, and always was. While Simon Mann was still incarcerated in Zimbabwe, Equatorial Guinea?s President Obiang is said to have boasted that if he ever got his hands on him he would personally sodomise the mercenary, and then have him skinned alive. Zimbabwe delivered Mann to Equatorial Guinea?s infamous Black Beach jail in January and now Mann has given ...
Royals | Davies impressing management
2008-03-04 01:01:00
Bob Dutton, of The Kansas City Star, reports Kansas City Royals SP Kyle Davies allowed one run on three hits in three innings of work March 2 against the Texas Rangers. I was impressed with Kyle getting back in his delivery several times after he got out of it, manager Trey Hillman said. He had a real good breaking ball at times but left a couple up. His fastball command had some real good spots of consistency.
Peter Davies on Zimbabwe - The lights shine for Mugabe
2008-03-03 16:31:00
Mugabe said “let there be light” and there WAS light, in Zimbabwe… until Mugabe had finished his election broadcast.  Then, “Ten minutes after the end of the live Zanu-PF election campaign launch, the electricity went off and everything shuddered to a halt again,” Cathy Buckle writes in her weekly newsletter from Zimbabwe. China and Israel have supplied Mugabe’s police with water cannon and purple dye to help deal with any possible unrest.  The police have openly warned Zimbabwe’s population that “we won’t hesitate to use force”, including firearms to quell politically motivated violence before during and/or after the elections.  (Except their own violence and that of Zanu-PF supporters, of course.)  These warnings were prompted by the riots that followed rigged elections in Kenya during January (see my article dated January 28).   Meanwhile, “independent” candidate, Simba Makoni held rallies in Harare on Saturday and in Zimbabwe’s second City, Bulaway...

Peter Davies on China in Africa - Is China the new colonial power in Africa
2008-02-18 15:12:00
There are an estimated 750,000 Chinese settlers in Africa, and one Chinese expert has suggested that China will need to send 300 million people to Africa (UK?s Sunday Times, China?s New Frontier). Very few of the 750,000 Chinese already in Africa speak English or any African language. In June, and again in November, 2007, I wrote ...

Two weeks ago, I wrote that a former finance minister in Mugabe?s government was rumoured to be planning to stand against Mugabe in the elections scheduled for March 29. Now it is out in the open, and it seems that Simba Makoni really is going to challenge Mugabe. How he will do this is still ...

Peter Davies on AFRICA, ZIMBABWE and ?STONE AGE WARRIORS?

The day before Zimbabwe?s election date was announced last week, incumbent president Mugabe?s main opposition rival, Morgan Tsvangirai of the MDC party was arrested by police in a dawn raid. Davies Gate Bathroom Baking
2008-01-23 04:30:00
Don’t you just love when you find something that you’d totally forgotten about? It doesn’t happen often but when it does it’s like treasure. I’m pretty sure I bought this right before we bought this house 3 years ago. I just found it behind a big storage container thing I use on the top shelf of my bathroom. I look at the storage thing quite often but the little tin was behind it for some reason. Anyway, I took a bath with it and I love the scent! I have the Sweet Orange Powdered Sugar Bath Soak and it smells so good. The packaging is super adorable, a spice tin, girl2004 thought I was baking in the bathroom - she is so into cooking it’s not even funny. We call her baby Giada because her favorite food tv star is Giada DeLaurentis. I used a lot more powderthan the recommended 2 tablespoons it smelled good enough to eat. Goals from Gabby and Davies are good enough to see a professional Aston Vil
2007-12-29 11:06:00
This isn't a match report, more of a news alert; Aston Villa come from behind to beat Wigan 2-1 and it was done quite impressively. I say it was impressive because John Carew went off very early, replaced by Luke Moore and the pitch was bloody awful; probably quite good for a team like Wigan who like to fight instead of play.

David Clement-Davies
2007-12-11 01:31:00
David Clement-Davies, talking animals and pagan folkloreby Steven WilliamsClement-Davies is a British writer particularly known for his fantasy adventure novels. The critically best received of his novels are intended for young adult readers though there has been some crossover interest similar to what has been seen with the Harry Potter novels. Clement-Davies was born in London in 1964 though he spent his childhood in Wales. It was in Wales that he first became fascinated with wild nature and this interest remained with him, heavily influencing his approach to fiction. In college he studied the Italian Renaissance as well as Russian literature and society. After college he pursued interests in both acting and writing first studying drama and even working in the theater before going on to work as a freelance travel journalist which provided him with a variety of adventurous experiences in exotic parts of the world. Clement-Davies first book, Fire Bringer, was published in 1999 and r...
Tory defector Quentin Davies - Who's sorry now?
2007-12-04 00:01:00
I wonder if Quentin Davies is sat at home tonight regretting writing these words in his letter to David Cameron: "Although you have many positive qualities you have three, superficiality, unreliability and an apparent lack of any clear convictions, which in my view ought to exclude you from the position of national leadership to which you aspire and which it is the presumed purpose of the Conservative party to achieve." Gordon Brown is: "a leader I have always greatly admired, who I believe is entirely straightforward, and who has a towering record, and a clear vision for the future of our country which I fully share".I think Quentin may have been a little hasty to jump ship.
Short Take - Ray Davies, Shaw/Blades, Zombies

Ray Davies album, Working Man's Cafe, will be released on February 19 via New West/Ammal. The album, based on changes Davies' has seen in the United States since the 60's, was given away free in the U.K. with the Sunday Times last October 21.The album will be released as a single CD along with a CD/DVD version. A vinyl release is being planned. The upcoming Shaw/Blades tour (Tommy Shaw of Styx and Jack Blades of Damn Yankees) will join the green bandwagon by using biodiesel. They are working in cooperation with BidForGreen who has also assisted Willie Nelson, Pat Mathany and Merle Haggard.Per Shaw, "BidForGreen is doing what needed to be done, creating a data base of fuel suppliers and setting up accounts so that it has been made even easier for us to use biodiesel than to spend the time fueling up in the stinky line at the truck stop, something we've all accepted as part of traveling by tour bus."
