Tuesday Afternoon Bills Practice Notes
2007-08-08 06:16:00
Time runs short before the Saints pre-season game, Bills fans. The Bills held a practice earlier this afternoon, and will practice tomorrow night at St. John Fisher college at 7 PM. A closed practice Thursday will be the final precursor to Friday's tilt in N'Awlins. Here's some of the interesting tidbits coming out of today's practice: Kelsay: How To Get Tackles For Loss Defensive end Chris Kelsay had an interesting quote on the team's run defense scheme: "When you've got guys like Kyle Williams, Larry Tripplett and hopefully John McCargo will continue to come around and Tim Anderson, guys that are continually pushing the pocket and making running backs change their direction in the backfield, it allows us as defensive ends and linebackers to run to make TFLs in the backfield," said Kelsay. "Coach Bill Kollar has pointed it out throughout the camp and Perry Fewell has as well as far as our penetration in 9-on-7 and some of the team stations. We've done a very good job o...
Monday Afternoon Practice Report
2007-08-07 04:22:00
Time to look at some reports from today's afternoon practice session.  First up is Edgar Thompson: -I just returned from practice. Yes, Channing Crowder was there. -RT Anthony Alabi was on the bike. He tweaked his knee this morning, but no update on that. -The injury to Alabi has led coaches to shake-up the first-team O-line a bit. Rookie Drew Mormino moved from RG to LG; Rex Hadnot stepped in at RG; LG Chris Liwienski moved to RT. Coaches must be really disappointed with RT L.J. Shelton because he remained with the back-ups despite Alabi's injury. -K Jay Feely could make things interesting this season with his ability to onside kick. -TE David Martin excelled during third-down situational drills. -DE Matt Roth blew by Mormino on one play to "sack" Trent Green. Of greater concern, rookie DE/LB Abraham Wright turned the corner with relative ease on Vernon Carey. -Chris Chambers dropped the ball on a drag route, though Lemon's throw was a bit off. Chambers bounced back immedia...

A day after dugout skirmish in Milwaukee, Gallardo leads Brewers over Phill
2007-08-04 05:43:00
Yovani Gallardo and the Milwaukee Brewers concentrated on taking on the Philadelphia Phillies, not each other. Gallardo won his third straight decision, retiring 14 straight batters in one stretch to lead the Brewers over the Phillies (2-1). Milwaukee moved back into the NL Central lead, one game over the second-place Cubs. Read the full story.

Friday afternoon open thread [Respectful Insolence]
2007-08-03 16:17:00
So what do you do when you didn’t have time to write something new? Well, you could leave the blog blank, which is anathema to me) or you could do the time-honored space-filling technique valued by bloggers everywhere once they reach a certain level of traffic. Yep! It’s one of the very rare times for an open thread on Respectful Insolence. In fact, I can’t even remember the last time I did one of these. Don’t let Orac down. Take advantage of it and speak your piece! Or don’t, and let the tumbleweeds roll through the ol’ blog this afternoon, metaphorically speaking… Read the comments on this post… Original post by
Thursday Afternoon Practice Reports
2007-08-03 02:27:00
First up for the afternoon reports is Perry Gattegno: -If football games were reduced to only the two-minute drill, the Miami Dolphins' offense would be ready to start the season. Thursday afternoon's final drill tested the offense on game-ending drives, and all three quarterbacks -- Cleo Lemon, Trent Green and John Beck -- drove the length of the field and scored. Lemon worked with the first team and hit wide receiver Marty Booker in the corner of the end zone. Booker made a gorgeous one-handed grab over cornerback Travis Daniels while falling out of bounds. Trent Green made quick work of the second-team defense with a strike to wide receiver Kerry Reed placed right in between two defensive backs and showed his scrambling skills on a TD chuck to a wide open Ted Ginn Jr., who found space between defensive backs Travares Tillman, Shirdonya Mitchell and Jason Allen. Finally, Beck looked sharp with the third team, hitting receiver David Sutton twice before connecting with tight en...

I can't remember where I saw it, but, the best description of my mental state is that my brain needs defragging. So, I'm a bit blogstipated (and, other "-stipated", too. No wonder, after having to hold it in at BlogHer, shutters on the wall in the hotel room opening into the bathroom makes for a bit of performance anxiety, I'll try to find a picture.) So, bullets. You get bullets. - Had to go to work to escape sensory overload at home. - Busy Girl on some sort of mission to spend the night out, or, have someone over every night of the week between now, and, when school starts. - Busy Boy comes home from camp Saturday! However, my big plans to clean his room haven't actually happened, yet. Truthfully, I've done the opposite of cleaning it, and, it's made some mighty fine storage space. I'm thinking that will not please him. - It will also not please him to find out he has full pad football practice the day he gets home from camp. - Wondering why every. single...
Nuclear terrorism: The new day after

Let’s review what we know of such situations from actual historical episodes rather than from the idealized fantasy world of defense intellectuals. A good place to begin is with Hiroshima itself. Saturday Afternoon Camp Reports
2007-07-29 01:49:00
Here are some observations on the afternoon practice session.  First up, here are the observations of Edgar Thompson: -Once again, rookie Drew Mormino lined up at starting RG and Anthony Alabi at RT, while Rex Hadnot and L.J. Shelton worked with the second team. -New LB Joey Porter looks to be heavily involved in the team's pass coverage schemes. Everyone knows Porter was on top pass rusher in Pittsburgh, but he also was one of the league's best cover LBs. Porter is one of only two players, along with Clay Matthews, who has 60 sacks and 10 picks in NFL history. -Maybe Ted Ginn doesn't run the most precise routes or needs to improve his ability to evade the CB jam at the line ... who knows. But he is a smooth, sure-handed receiver who's going to contribute as more than a returner. -If Brandon Fields can get the basics out of the way and focus on punting, he's going to be a weapon. The guy's leg is phenomenal. He just hit a booming spiral 70 yards in the air and made it loo...

THE DAY AFTER TOMORROW NOW AVAILABLE ONLINE HERE IS THE SUMMARY OF THE MOVIE THE DAY AFTER TOMORROW FROM IMDB This movie takes a big-budget, special-effects-filled look at what the world would look like if the greenhouse effect and global warming continued at such levels that they resulted in worldwide catastrophe and disaster, including multiple hurricanes, tornadoes, tidal waves, floods and the beginning of the next Ice Age. At the center of the story is a paleoclimatologist (a scientist who studies the ways weather patterns changed in the past), Professor Jack Hall (Quaid), who tries to save the world from the effects of global warming while also trying to get to his son, Sam (Gyllenhaal), who was in New York City as part of a scholastic competition, when the city was overwhelmed by the chilling beginnings of the new Ice Age. In addition to all of the other challenges Dr. Hall faces, he's also going against the flow as humanity races south to warmer climes, and he's nearly th...

What People Talk About By Guy KawasakiLois Kelly is the author of Beyond Buzz: The Next Generation of Word-of-Mouth Marketing . This is her explanation of the top nine types of stories that people like to talk about. If you?re pitching your company to investors, customers, partners, journalists, vendors, or employees and you don?t use at least one of these types of stories, you probably have a problem. Aspirations and beliefs. More than any other topic, people like to hear about aspirations and beliefs. (This may be why religion is the most popular word-of-mouth topic, ever.) Sun Microsystems? Scott McNealy?s point of view about ending the digital divide is aspirational as is Patagonia founder Yvon Chouinard?s views about how companies can grow by reducing pollution and creating more sustainable business strategies. Aspirations are helpful because they help us connect emotionally to the speaker, the company, and the issues. They help us see into a person or company?s soul. David vs....

One Night 4 College Students Were Playing Till Late Night And Didn't Study For The Test Which Was Scheduled For The Next Day.In the morning they thought of a plan. They made themselves look as dirty and weird with grease and dirt. They then went up to the Dean andsaid that they had gone out to a wedding last night and on their return, the tyre of their car burst and they had to push the car all the way back and that they were in no condition to appear for the test.So the Dean said they can have the re-test after 3 days. They thanked him and said they will be ready by that time. On the third day they appeared before the Dean. The Dean said that as this was a Special Condition Test, All four were required to sit inseparate classrooms for the test. They all agreed as they had prepared well in the last 3 days. The Test consisted of 2 questions with the total of 100 Marks.>>( can you guess what the questions were?? Tuesday afternoon blues grip nation as staff consider futures and apply for
2007-06-26 18:20:00
Bosses need to be on high alert on Tuesday afternoons as this is the time that employers go online to search for new jobs. A survey of 700 people conducted by recruitment website Fish4jobs found that productivity reached its lowest point at 3.15pm on a Tuesday. Each respondent spent an average of 8 minutes and 37 seconds job surfing, once they had logged onto the site, while two-thirds of respondents admitted that they had been caught out by their employer for job-hunting. Jow Slavin chief executive at Fish4 said: "In our experience, Tuesday afternoons are the trigger point in the week when most employees' minds start to wander and reflect on their current job situation. "It's worrying to note that some jobseekers are blatantly looking for jobs during their current worktime. It's a dangerous game and certainly one that we wouldn't recommend," he added.

Saturday Afternoon Treasure Hunt
2007-06-24 23:43:00
This weekend I had my heart set on perusing the Haarlemmerstraat/Haarlemmerdijk- area, just west of Central Station in the direction of Westerpark, in Amsterdam. I’ve always enjoyed window shopping there and I knew that quite a few new storefronts had opened up in the area since last I’d had a leisurely stroll through it. The Haarlemmerstraat runs from the Singel to the Korte Prinsengracht, and from there begins the Haarlemmerdijk which extends on until the Haarlemmerplein. These streets offer a fantastic stretch of shopping, restaurants, cafes, and bars. I’m positive that for those lucky enough to live in the neighborhood of this bustling thoroughfare; it’s rare to have to leave the immediate area in search of something that that couldn’t be found in the Haarlemmerstraat or Haarlemmerdijk. These streets have more then their fair share of bakeries, delicatessens (yesterday I visited shops specializing in Asian, Portuguese, Spanish and Italian foods), gre...

Morning everyone! After a memorable day in Baltimore on Monday, the Black and Orange get back to business (read Heather Irvin's Oriole Magic preview); however, there's more to talk about with this team. From the looks of things, MacPhail will be the man in charge and should have more autonomy than any person in his position ever has had. The question is, will Peter Angelos loosen the grip and let the people he hired to do their jobs?As we know, Joe Girardi along with Davey Johnson and as well Dusty Baker may be candidates for the job. Personally, whomever comes in should realize the Baltimore Orioles need a lot of work, and while a lot of people like Joe Girardi, some like don't -- however, I believe at this point, the Orioles are in a severe change of culture. The nice cop routine didn't work, you might as well try the bad one.Whether it is Joe Girardi or Davey Johnson or Dusty Baker, work will have to be done with this organization, and the players, along with the front office w...

Government to unveil skills pledge later today after six-months of false st
2007-06-14 12:00:00
The government today launches the long-awaited skills pledge today as part of its overall response to the Leitch Review, commissioned by the Treasury and published last December, to address the UK skills shortage. Education secretary Alan Johnson, skills envoy Digby Jones and TUC general secretary Brendan Barber are expected to introduce the launch after a six-month delay, which will see some companies sign a pledge to commit to train their staff to the equivalent of five GCSEs by 2010 - in the hope that other employers will follow. The pledge is just one of many recommendations made by Lord Sandy Leitch, who warned that if UK skills remain ?fundamentally weak? they will ?hold back productivity, growth and social justice?. The TUC has already signed the pledge to help raise workers to Level 2, and its general secretary has asked every TUC affiliated union to sign up too. Barber told a conference of union learning reps on Monday that employers should work with unions to make...

Friday Afternoon Internet Crawl
2007-06-01 22:58:00
Here are the Bills-related stories making headlines around the Internet this afternoon... Tight end Robert Royal will miss the remainder of OTAs after "spraining" his shoulder in an awkward collision with two defenders in yesterday's workouts. The injury will not require surgery and Royal will be 100% for training camp in mid-July. Good thing, too - he's going to be an integral part of our passing game (especially near the goal line), and having him healthy is key as J.P. Losman continues to mature as a pro quarterback. It's reassuring to get a quick diagnosis and put to rest any notion that he'd miss significant time. What a surprise - more Darwin Walker talk, this time from Connor Byrne: For Buffalo, the sad thing is that the Walker situation may be foreshadowing a trio of future contract issues with other Bills, namely Aaron Schobel, Lee Evans and Jason Peters. Those are three of the team's peak performers, and all have deals that could lead their respective agents to ...

The Day After
2007-05-30 03:14:00
Today is one of my least favorite days of the year. Actually I guess all Tuesdays following a three-day holiday weekend are. I can tell you one thing for sure ? whoever invented the shirt collar and the tie obviously never spent three straight days playing and working in the sun! I think I may now permanently have a red neck. In fact, without even realizing it, I parked my truck up on the front lawn yesterday. I guess the symptoms of my red neck crept up on me slowly. After all, I watched NASCAR (Jeff Gordon crashed and was relegated to a 41st place finish ? woo hoo) and smoked ribs on the grill while Lucy and Ethel played with our dog Mabel this weekend. I didn?t really connect all the dots until my neighbors asked me if I was going to keep my truck where I had parked it. Me yelling at the neighbors and mumbling something about gettin? my danged old shot gun outta the house was what really made me notice how red my neck had become. I don?t think anyone named Aloe or Vera can help m...
