Daylight Savings Introduced in Pakistan: Is This A Good Idea?
2008-06-01 00:17:00 Adil Najam As of the stroke of midnight Saturday-Sunday (May 31-June 1, 2008) Pakistan officially advanced its clocks by one hour. This “daylight savings” move is a bid to conserve energy in a increasingly energy strapped economy in conditions where everyone agrees that the energy situation is going to get worse well before it gets any ...

I’ve seen it stated that DST was started to help farmers. If you know any farmers then you know that is illogical since they generally ...

Daylight Savings...
2008-03-10 06:28:00 The only place where 3 AM follows 1:59 AM is Daylight Savings (DS) - a concept followed by US, parts of Europe and Australia. The logic behind DST is that people use natural light to a greater extent and hence power consumption is reduced. But this concept never impressed me till date not just because it is so unnatural but also because of the fact that thousands of person hours are being wasted across the globe to maintain software and correct any defects due to this sudden 'drift' in time. IT companies don't mind getting paid for monitoring their client's software and the impacts if any due to DST changes, but why should such a huge amount of time and money be wasted on a crap concept?!I accept that humans can control their lifestyle and their social practices but meddling with nature and conventions is not even close to impressive. If you prefer using a lot of natural light, wake up an hour early and come to office by 7 instead of 8. Why does it need moving the hour hand back ...
Daylight savings yet again steals my sleep
2008-03-09 22:21:00 People who know me may or may not have heard me give my little rant on springing forward or falling back with our clocks. I will save everyone's ears from hearing the whole thing but the point of it is, DST has really no purpose and should be done away with. The popular reasoning for it lately has been to save on energy but a recent study done by a professor of environmental economics at U.C. Santa Barbara has said it might actually cost us more when we reset our clocks... Sorry it is just one of those things that make me tick. :pIt is also slightly irritating because since we had concerts until late last night and also had some friends spend the night we did not get to bed exactly early if you know what I mean. :D That extra hour comes in handy....Nevertheless, I fought off Sleepy Rufus in time to get ready and arrive on time at church where we sang a song that I love, "There Is A Higher Throne"There is a higher throne Than all this world has known Where faithful ones from every t...

Daylight savings is found to waste energy
2008-03-08 20:03:00 March 5, 2008 For decades, conventional wisdom has held that daylight-saving time reduces energy use. Now a university study of a unique situation in Indiana has provided compelling evidence challenging that view. Daylight savings may actually waste energy. The Wall Street Journal is running a story on a study that unambiguously concludes that Daylight Saving Time not only doesn't save any

Daylight Savings Time is not for saving energy
2008-03-08 02:57:00 Daylight Saving Time was used during WWI, WWII and the 1970’s oil crisis to reduce the use of oil. It worked then, but times have changed. The energy load from air conditioners has grown to be a bigger part of the national energy pie. A reduction in energy used for lighting is more that offset by an increase in air conditioning usage when we shift our clocks to DST. When the recent extension of Daylight Saving Time was proposed, lawmakers noted; energy savings, less crime, fewer traffic fatalities, more recreation time and increased economic activity with the extra sunlight in the evening. A study of electric bills in Southern Indiana showed electric usage went up when daylight savings time was used in parts of the state where it had not been used before. It is the Economy Stupid People really do buy more goods after work when they are given more daylight to shop in. Industries that rely on evening activity such as golf and the barbecue industry benefit from daylight savings ...

Daylight Savings Time: Turn Clocks Ahead ? March 9
2008-03-07 00:00:00 Starting in 2007, daylight time begins in the United States on the second Sunday in March and ends on the first Sunday in November. On the second Sunday in March, clocks are set ahead one hour at 2:00 a.m. local standard time, which becomes 3:00 a.m. local daylight time. On the first Sunday in November, clocks are set back one hour at 2:00 a.m. local daylight time, which becomes 1:00 a.m. local standard time. These dates were established by the Energy Policy Act of 2005, Pub. L. no. 109-58, 119 Stat 594 (2005).

Daylight Savings Time is ending, time to fall back
2007-11-04 14:41:00 From the Windows Vista Team Blog In 2007, Daylight Savings Time started on 11th March 2007, three weeks earlier than normal. Daylight Savings Time is ending this year one week later than usual, on 4th November (tomorrow). Because in 2007 we've had four more weeks of Daylight Savings Time, your PC's date and time may be affected when Daylight Savings Time ends this weekend. If you are a Windows Vista user and have Automatic Updates configured for Windows Update, you most likely already have the necessary update to ensure your date and time will make the change come the 4th. Daylight Savings Time and The Hour You Save
2007-11-04 13:01:00 Every year when it comes time to change the clock for daylight savings time, I hear the same complaints. Why don't we just leave the clock alone? Why do we change the clocks anyway? It reminds me the story of the lady who prepared the roast by cutting off the two ends before putting it in the pan. Her husband asked her why she did that. daylight savings
2007-11-04 05:18:00 It's 11:19 PM right now, but technically it's only 10:19 PM due to daylight savings time. This is one of my favorite days of the year because I gain an extra hour to do with as I wish. My choice this time around is drinking vodka and listening to Elvis Presley while my husband plays Final Fantasy XI online. He's been waiting years to be able to play this game. He's as much of a FF freak as I am a Resident Evil freak. Yeah, we're a perfect pair of "vidiots." A marriage made in heaven, if you will. We decided to sacrifice some of the movie channels on cable (that never have anything good playing anyway) in order to comfortably afford the twelve dollars a month it will cost us for him to maintain an online character. I have to keep my man happy, right? Speaking of video games.. did I mention that we are getting a PS3 for Christmas? Yes, indeed. My brother called a few days ago to find out what the kids wanted for Christmas. Of course I told him that my boys wanted a PS3. He aske...

2007-03-12 06:35:00 DST arrives three weeks earlier than usual.Although I felt no noticeable after effects as I lazed under the still-barren branches at the park yesterday. A quick google search online revealed:1.) DST was conceived by our very own Benjamin Franklin (for better or for worse) and proposed by a William Willet in 1905**http://en.wikipedia.org/w-iki/Daylight_saving_time2.) European contries in the EU apply DST on the last Sunday of March3.) Countries that observe DST have their own schedules as to when DST is put into effect, example: Australia occurs at the first Sunday in October4.) Tropical/equatorial countries, not benefiting from DST, keep yearlong, unchanged time5.) Certain electronic devices, like my Palm TX, need a special downloadable update to reflect the earlier DST6.) It is not certain whether DST actually saves energy (electricity consumption)

Bump electricity, i had to go to work and hour early even though i still showed up an hour late. i hate daylight savings. dont you.

DAYLIGHT SAVINGS TIME CHANGE THE LAST STRAW
2007-03-10 19:45:01 I know that adaptation is part of life. But when do the demands of such start to whittle away at one’s ability to cope? In my lifetime I have seen so many changes…just to words that I’m getting to the point of being afraid to say something lest it offend someone. In my youth (’yut’ for those in Brooklyn), a ‘fag’, short for ‘faggot’, meant a cigarette. In the British Isles it was quite common for someone wanting a cigarette to say, “I’m gasping for a fag.” Try saying THAT these days and you’re in all kinds of trouble even though you don’t want to offend anybody. I remember Mao Tse Tung…but he ain’t that no more, either. It’s Mao Ze Dung or something like like…and what about Peking? The bones of Peking Man went missing in the 1940’s, but if they’re ever found we can’t call him that because he is now Beijing Man. ?? Is it Beijing Duck in restaurants? I...
