I ended up cutting parts of it out because the entire post took over ten pages in Microsoft Word in 14-point type. Rather prolific, I'd say. 'Death Proof' the 'Fifth Movie by QuentinTarantino' (as the poster proudly proclaims) is a movie of two halves, both of them dull. Stuntman Mike, a grizzled veteran of Old Hollywood, gets his sadistic kicks from running beautiful young women (of which there seem to be carloads in this otherwise deserted part of America) off the road. The first half shows him successful, the second has him meet his match. Despite good talent on show (and in skimpy skirts and shorts, the victims are on show), there is little story here, and the dialogue that usually is Tarantino's strength, lets him down here. Maybe it's because he's writing for so many women, or rather his version of women. It is ironic that the first movie in years to feature meaty roles for a multitude of women, treats them as so much meat. The only entertainment supplied is a violent climactic car chase. Death Proof - Dir: Quentin Tarantino
2007-09-24 10:42:00 This was a massive disappointment. There were problems with audiences not going to see Grindhouse but I'd assumed that was merely down to massive running time. I didn't ever think that it would be because of the extreme poorness of Tarantino's movie. He is reknowned for his witty culture referenced filled dialogue but here it was bland and just seemed to drag on forever. It just seemed really over indulgent and flabby. The two great scenes involving the Death Proof car and its driver Stuntman Mike played by Kurt Russell literally steal the show. It's not hard though to be honest to steal this show. One of the stunt girls, Zoe Bell is so gratingly bad it makes you want to walk out. She is a stunt woman in real life and should have stuck to it. This is a JM THUMBS DOWN.

Wer Filme von Tarantino mag und seine Vorlieben kennt, der weiß auch in etwa, was passieren kann, wenn er eine Homage an gewisse US-Gerne-Filme der 70er Jahre dreht. Die Atmosphäre ist recht gut eingefangen und beginnt mit einem grobkörnigen Film, den passenden 70er Jahre Schriften und einigen Schnittwiederholern im Film. Auch auch auf Tarantinos eigenen Musikgeschmack ist für die 70er Jahre verlass. Zusätzlich hat er den Film auf alt getrimmt indem die Farben verblasst sind und täuschend echte Streifen den Film durchziehen. Nur warum der Film kurzzeitig auf schwarz-weiß übergeht, muß wohl eher an die TV-Nostalgie von Tarantino liegen, denn in einem Kino wird ein Farbfilm nicht einfach so zu einem Schwarz-Weiß-Film und umgekehrt.
