Dude, where’s my iPhone SDK remote debug mode?
2008-03-07 19:00:00 Some of you may have been confused about a key issue in the iPhone SDK, I know I certainly was. You may have seen the iPhone SDK intro video that Apple released last night, in which Scott Forstall demoed syncing an application to your iPhone through the 30-pin iPhone dock connector. This allows you to do live debugs on your code, while using the application on it's native hardware. Well, if Apple didn't make it clear in their video, or on their website, you must pay the $99 (standard) or $299 (enterprise) in order to transfer an application to an iPhone for testing. You use the certificate to sign your code. You can find information about the developer certificates on Apple's DevCenter (login required). You can still use the iPhone simulator, but running it on the hardware is part of the fun. This blog will tell you how to Unlock Jailbreak Activate and Hack your iPhone and iTouch firmware for FREE

Expand and Debug a Custom BuildProvider
2007-10-27 21:06:00 Yesterday I described how to create a Custom BuildProvider, that automatically creates a string class with static string members from an xml file, containing localized text for a webpage. I wanted to generalize the class, so that i could use it for different purposes, for instance an "Urls" class to contain all site urls defined also in an xml file. I decided to define what to generate in the builder.stringsbuildprovider file, that also triggers the codegeneration like so: <?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8" ?> <!-- Builds static key/value "strings" classes from the defined values filename: which XML file contains the data classname: define the name of the class you want namespace: in which namespace should the class be created nodename: what is the single node name that defines the data attributename: which name from xml attribute do you want as the lookupvalue valuename: which attribute from xml contains the value --> <classes&g...

Introducing the EasyBCD Debug Toolkit (and the EasyBCD 1.7.1 Beta)
2007-10-20 21:23:00 Just a quick heads-up: EasyBCD 1.7.1 has entered the beta stage and can be grabbed at the usual beta builds thread. EasyBCD 1.7.1 is a bugfix build that addresses two issues that have come up since our (most stable release ever!) 1.7 final a couple of months back. Perhaps you’ll find our new EasyBCD 1.7.1 Debug Toolkit to be of greater interest, though. The all-new EasyBCD Debug Toolkit is a way to “trick” EasyBCD into seeing a system configuration that’s not really there. You just run EasyBCD with a command-line switch (/debugbcd and /debugbp) and you can then have it use fake info (in the form of a text file containing the stdout dump you’d like EasyBCD to see) instead of actually checking your current system configuration and going by those settings instead. Admittedly, we’re at a bit of a loss for just what this feature can be put to use for. We’re using it to test bcdedit and bootpart outputs that users complain crash their system, b...

ExcelCube Write Copy Edit and Debug Linking Formulas
2007-10-06 07:12:00 About UsExcelCube was developed by three of us from the decision support software industry.Excel Cube Buy Online Our installations of consolidation and financial reporting software in large firms involved thousands of entities flowing into hundreds of levels of consolidations in several structures. Capabilities for exception reporting, currency conversion, journal entries and audit trails, security, and other accounting controls were typically required. At all of our clients Excel was used for operations level work. Often we were asked to provide interfaces to and from Excel so users could work with input and consolidated data within Excel.Excel Cube Lite - Buy Online Where the financial and accounting controls were not needed, this method to provide data for work in Excel represented a six figure solution. There had to be an easier, and cheaper, way and we couldn?t find one.The idea was formed to provide a straightforward tool that added up entire spreadsheets across Excel files with...
Configuring, using and debugging chan_mobile on Asterisk
2007-10-03 06:25:00 If you read the previous post on chan_mobile on asterisk, here is the follow up, straight from Asterisk SVN.Configuring chan_mobile :-The configuration file for chan_mobile is /etc/asterisk/mobile.conf. It is a normal Asterisk config file consisting of sections and key=value pairs.See configs/mobile.conf.sample for an example and an explanation of the configuration.Using chan_mobile :-chan_mobile.so must be loaded either by loading it using the Asterisk CLI, or by adding it to /etc/asterisk/modules.confSearc-h for your bluetooth devices using the CLI command 'mobile search'. Be patient with this command as it will take 8 - 10 seconds to do the discovery. This requires a free adapter.Headsets will generally have to be put into 'pairing' mode before they will show up here. This will return something like the following :-*CLI> mobile searchAddress Name Usable Type Port00:12:56:90:6E:00 LG TU500...
How to Disable/Enable Windows default debugger Dr. Watson
2007-10-02 02:03:00 If you haven't heard it before, you may wonder what is Dr. Watson? Here is a brief explanation: Dr. Watson for Windows is a program error debugger that gathers information about your computer when an error (or user-mode fault) occurs with a program. Technical support groups can use the information that Dr. Watson obtains and logs to diagnose a program error. So, that means this debugger will collect information and send to Microsoft for further analysis. But for your testing computer that don't have internet, or if you feel it's useless for you anyway, just follow these steps to turn off. * 1.Go to Start Menu -->> Run and type regedit.exe then press Enter. * 2.Browse to the following registry. Debugging the Patient
2007-08-23 14:00:00 In a recent issue of the International Journal of Psychiatry in Medicine (Issue 37(1)), a series of case studies describing six patients suffering from delusional parasitosis are presented. Also known as Ekbom's syndrome, delusional parasitosis is a form of psychosis in which patients believe that they are infested with parasites (eg, worms, insects, or bacteria). It can be found as a stand-alone delusion or as part of a broader diagnosis such as schizophrenia. In the presented case series, the six patients were treated with atypical antipsychotic medications including amisulpride, olanzapine, and risperidone. While non-oral administration of medication (usually intravenously) was found to be beneficial in most cases, medical complications (including one patient who had a myocardial infarction after being given amisulpride) made treatment difficult in some cases. Visual Studio 2005 Debugging Tips
2007-06-28 18:12:00 One of my developers at work posted this on our "tips" blog. Good stuff... Just in case you?ve never tried, it - the next time you?re looking at a call stack while stopped at a break point in visual studio 2005, try right clicking in the call stack window and investigating some of the context menu options. Here?s some that stand out. Discovering the first one just gave me a some good insight into why .NET control events were being fired without my, or our users, instigation. It is especially useful in combo with Reflector. .NET (http://www.aisto.com/roeder/do-tnet/) Show External Code Changes those single line, obstuse call stack phrases ?[External Code]? into illuminating exposés of internal .NET assembly method call stacks, complete with cracked message and parameter info. Debugging Using Eclipse
2007-05-25 16:04:00 Eclipse is an integrated development environment (IDE) that provides workspace management, code and debug application. Eclipse is known to many Java developers because of its rich features that make their programming task easier. IBM Developer Works discussed about debugging your code using Eclipse. Find out how to use the built-in debugging features in the Eclipse Platform for debugging software projects. Debugging is something programmers can’t avoid. There are many ways to go about it, but it essentially comes down to finding the code responsible for a bug. For example, one of the most common errors in Linux® applications is known as a segmentation fault. This occurs when a program attempts to access memory not allocated to it and terminates with a segmentation violation. To fix this kind of error, you need to find the line of code that triggers the behavior. Once the line of code in question has been found, it is also useful to know the context in which the error occur...
Scripts: Set Debug Mode in Script
2007-05-11 05:22:00 Sometimes there is a need to know what is the data being transmitted in the Replay Log or performing troubleshooting of the scripts. When the usual options are configured. Parameter substitution, Advance Trace and Data Returned by Server are turned on, it’s going to generate a big chunk of data. And in circumstances, you need to know only a certain portion of script to ensure that it is working perfectly, you have to wait through the replay, waiting for it to complete. As such, below is a faster way of generating the Replay Log in a shorter format. This, of course is not effective. So, how do we reduce the information generated to the Replay Log? You can use the lr_set_debug_message to display only a certain portion of the log generated. Place the lr_set_debug_message before the codes that you want the replay log to receive and close it again as per your requirement. The syntax is as below and more information can be consulted in the Function Reference.lr_set_debug_message(-LR_MSG_...
The evil #if DEBUG
2007-03-30 23:19:00 I recently received a bug report for an ASP.NET site I've been maintaining but when I went off to test out the problem running the site through Visual Studio eveything worked fine. Slightly confused, I went back to the live site and immediately reproduced the problem. So I thought the problem must be caused by the site not being in sync with the the development box so I uploaded the latest code. The problem was still occurring... I was fairly unfamiliar with the code so I started stepping through it. You've no doubt guessed the problem by now from the title of this post. There was some code wrapped in an #if DEBUG directive that actually overrode the parameters passed into the page via a query string. I removed that and the problem on the live site was reproducible in Visual Studio. But I wasted an hour or so getting to the bottom of it. So the moral of the story is don't change behaviour of your code with #if DEBUG statements. The only use I've found for #if DEBU...

Debugging a Service on Windows Vista
2007-03-15 20:22:00 This is a great post about debugging a service on Vista platform. I recently picked up John Robbins' excellent Debugging Microsoft .NET 2.0 Applications and was flipping through it to discover just what new things I would learn and/or remind myself of. His brilliant description of setting up a local symbol server could not have been more well-timed - I spoke with a customer literally the next day who a symbol server was the perfect solution for, and rather than having them wade through the documentation to understand exactly how to do this, I could just lift up the book (as I said, it was litterally the next day, so it was still in my bag) and say "get this and go to this chapter." Saved me a lot of time, and solved a serious customer isue. Technorati Tags: Windows read more
Debug and explore AJAX with FireBug
2007-03-06 14:41:00 “where did you find documentation on the sender and event args objects in the PageRequestManager events?” Lately, if I don’t hear that question at least a dozen times a week, I start worrying that something’s wrong with my contact form. I can understand why it would be a common question. The documentation we currently have for the JavaScript portion of the AJAX framework is on the light side. The answer to the question is that I didn’t, but I can show you how I found what I did. By using a JavaScript debugger, it becomes trivially easy to explore these objects and find out what makes them tick, even without formal documentation. Personally, I use FireBug for JavaScript debugging, so that’s what I’ll use to demonstrate. Any JavaScript debugger that allows you to set breakpoints will work though. The code that I’m going to use for this example is my CSS style as AJAX progress indicator tutorial. With FireBug open (F12), I load up th...

Engadget is against debugging
2007-01-26 18:59:01 Cease and desist letters to bloggers provide the little things in life that make us smile. Most recently, Engadget received a C&D letter for (mis?)using the term "ant farm" in a post they made about a belt-clip sized ant farm (oops!) gadget for kids. The letter reads:"Our company, Uncle Milton Industries, Inc. is the owner of the registered trademark, "Ant Farm(R)" for our brand of ant habitat products. The phrase is not generic. We note the use of our trademark to describe a competitor's product in your website page noted above, as well as in the "Antquarium" page referenced on your site. We request that you delete the phrase "ant farm" and substitute it with a generic phrase, such as "ant habitat."Aw, don't PR people say the darndest things?
