2008-04-18 02:05:00 Def Leppard's tour manager Malvin Mortimer has posted an explanation for all of the last minute cancellations and postponements of the group's concerts over the past week."I have been around this band for over 25 years but I have never seen them hit so suddenly and with such devastation as I did in Quebec City last Friday, April 11 (oh, apart from the hurricane in 1987 um.....and the baseball park mini tornado in Camden three years ago). Phil had been suffering from a viral infection which affected his chest and his ability to sing and breathe at the same time.We left Providence after midnight on April 9/10 to drive 6 hours to the Canadian border and as usual we were invited inside to wait while the paperwork was processed. 2008-02-02 23:49:00 Def Leppard announced on their website that their new album, Songs From the Sparkle Lounge, has been pushed back to a still tentative release date of May 5/6.Well, it's one of the constants in the history of Def Leppard, and we regret to inform you that it has popped up again: the release of the band's new album "SONGS FROM THE SPARKLE LOUNGE" has been pushed back (even though the date we mentioned two weeks ago was only a tentative date to start with). We got to the venue without any problem and went looking for 'a guy named Mike under an umbrella', who had our names on a list but didn't immediately realize it, and first sent us towards a sort of V.I.P. area of the parking but then came running after us to point us in the right direction... backstage parking. Next gate, and another guy wanted to steer us away and asked for credentials, but we did the magic move... we called Rocko. There were many bands that rocked harder, and were more dangerous, than the Sheffield quintet, but few others captured the spirit of the times quite as well. Emerging in the late '70s as part of the New Wave of British Heavy Metal, the group actually owed more to the glam rock and metal of the early '70s -- their sound was equal parts T. Rex, Mott the Hoople, Queen, and Led Zeppelin. By toning down their heavy riffs and emphasizing melody, Def Leppard was poised for crossover success by 1983's Pyromania, but skillfully used the fledgling MTV network to their advantage. The group was already blessed with photogenic good looks, but they also crafted a series of innovative, exciting videos that made them into stars.
