A finales de mayo, frente a las irregularidades cometidas por la organización del Congreso Regional del PP en Baleares, uno de los asesores de Carlos Delgado avisaba que si el Comité Nacional de Garantías del partido no tomaba medidas, ''iremos al Juzgado". Y así será. Delgado pedirá al juez que suspenda cautelarmente el Congreso y vele por su legalidad "ante las continuas y numerosas irregularidades que se han detectado a lo largo de las últimas semanas en relación al procedimiento y sus trámites previos". I will admit I'm a fan of Luis Castillo, I have been since the first week he was with the team and after a loss he sat in the grass next to the dugout stewing after everyone else left the field. While his range has diminished but he still a solid defender that turns a tremendous double play. Once he gets his bat going it's like having two lead-off hitters at the top of the order. Ken Rosenthal has some items worth discussing in his latest Full Count video: Trade Carlos Delgado for Richie Sexson? Rosenthal doesn't see why not. They're both in walk years, neither have a no-trade-clause, and they're both making roughly the same amount. I'll add to that by noting both have arguably met more success hitting in each other's league. I'm was very glad to see Carlos Delgado bunt against the shift, in fact I've been recommending it for over a year. In a post dated 1/27/07 called Keep em Honest in which I chronicled Delgado's struggles, the shift and said the following about bunting;My concern with Delgado making an effort to hit the ball the other way, is that in doing so it may have compounded his mechanical problems. It appeared that during the slump his hips were flying out which would indicate a player who's attempting to be in front of the ball to hit it in the opposite direction. The slump seemed to start with Delgado hitting the ball hard directly at defenders in the shift, and then escalated in a mechanical problem, possibly by trying to hit the other way. My solution to the problem is to force the defense out of the shift by keeping them honest. If Schneider did land on the DL to allow his left thumb time to fully mend, he'd miss only six more games — the time the Mets will spend in Arizona and Los Angeles. Willie Randolph has been noncommittal about where Alou will bat. But with Luis Castillo recently warming up, it's seems justifiable to leave him in the No. 2 hole rather than use Ryan Church there. I was a huge supporter of Carlos Delgado, I thought the big man was a clubhouse leader and his desire for a championship would drive this team into the playoffs. He could also help groom other quiet members of the team and show them how to become leaders within their personality, Carlos Beltran has benefited greatly from playing along side Delgado. Even if Delgado couldn't hit .300 anymore, .250 and 30 HRs is enough to provide protection in the line-up and put pressure on young pitchers (making them wild). His defense has always been secondary but as long as he could make the routine play and dig a throw out of the dirt it was good enough. For the past two years, Delgado has provided all of the above, granted more so in '06' then '07' but it was money well spent.I might be wrong but either Delgado is hurt or he's given up, I've never seen any one's skills so rapidly decline in all aspects of his game. Despite the Mets looking great for the last two series there has been one glaring deficiency in the offense and that's Carlos Delgado. Delgado is no longer the player he was in 2006, he's no longer the guy that teams fear could blast a shot over the fence on any given plate appearance. I questioned in the first week of the season whether Delgado as a slap hitter would be enough and that was when he was hitting now that he's not it leaves a big hole in the middle of the order. Carlos Delgado is looking much better at the plate to start the season. Sure he struck out twice last night but he also walked three times and more importantly drove in the run to tie the game. With two on in the eighth and the Mets offense absolutely sputtering Delgado scorched a line-drive through the over shift to score David Wright from second. Thanks to Delgado's hit, the Mets were able to win the game in the 14th. Three walks in a game would have been unheard of last year when Delgado was pressing for hits, his patience and good eye have resulted in a .375 OBP. When I noticed Delgado hitting alot of balls to the opposite field I commented that he might be transforming himself into a Shawn Green type hitting. Better average and on-base pct. with much less power, so far this season that seems to be holding true. Carlos Delgado needed four stitches to close a bloody gash on his right forearm after he was speared by Brady Clark's broken bat as he led off third base in the third inning of Sunday's 7-4 split-squad win over the Tigers according to the New York Daily News. "I looked up and it was kind of on top of me, so I couldn't try to get out of the way," Delgado said. "I covered my face a little bit, and that's when I got it on my right arm. ... It was a lot more blood than I cared to see, but it's all right." Delgado, who had just delivered an opposite-field, RBI double off Detroit's Yorman Bazardo to extend his modest hitting streak to three games, left the game. After five straight starts at first base, Delgado, who is coming back from a sore hip, had been scheduled for an off-day today. With the Mets off tomorrow, he hopes to return Wednesday.
