Desiderata

Desiderata has been one of my sources of strength, encouragement, and motivation. Its principles are timeless. You cannot go wrong if you take them with you. You will not lose hope if you breathe them into your faltering soul. You will always be renewed if you reflect on them.-----------------------------------------------------------------Go placidly amid the noise and haste, and remember what peace there may be in silence. As far as possible without surrenderbe on good terms with all persons.Speak your truth quietly and clearly;and listen to others, even the dull and the ignorant;they too have their story.Avoid loud and aggressive persons, they are vexations to the spirit. If you compare yourself with others, you may become vain and bitter;for always there will be greater and lesser persons than yourself.Enjoy your achievements as well as your plans.Keep interested in your own career, however humble;it is a real possession in the changing fortunes of time.Exercise caution in your busines...
OPW: Max Ehrmann?s ?Desiderata?
2007-12-21 18:38:00
There’s a large soft spot in my heart for broad and sweeping pieces of advice about how to live you life. Even if I don’t agree with everything such poems, columns, commencement speeches, or songs say, I still like them. And even if they seem to be off on a few points, they say things ...

A Perfect Universe: The Tao of Desiderata
2007-10-26 13:00:00
This guest post was written by Carol L. Skolnick of Clear Life Solutions. “And whether or not it is clear to you, no doubt the universe is unfolding as it should” —From Desiderata    “Open yourself to the Tao, then trust your natural responses; and everything will fall into place.”               —Tao Te Ching, Verse 23 Albert Einstein is said to have told a reporter, “I think the most important question facing humanity is, ‘Is the universe a friendly place?’ This is the first and most basic question all people must answer for themselves.”  Einstein likely felt this question was so important because he knew that to believe in an unfriendly universe is to be at war with it. Einstein was all about understanding and working with, not against, what is. The literature of spiritual wisdom from time immemorial points to this peaceful viewpoint as well, perhaps most significantly, the classic Chinese text, Tao Te Ch...

Help Wanted: Desiderata Series
2007-09-15 20:58:00
There is one piece of writing that comes very close to summarizing my philosophy of life: Desiderata by Max Ehrmann. I can fully embrace all of the advice offered by this beautiful piece, and it has long been one of my favorites. As such, I intend to explore Desiderata throughout the month of October here on this blog with a series of posts. However, I would like very much to have some guest writers help me with this project so that we can get a variety of viewpoints on this beautiful piece. Would you look over the Desiderata below and see if there is a section you’d be interested in writing about? If there is, post a comment “claiming” your section by referring to the corresponding number of your section. Then, in order to help generate some interest in this project, please leave a link to this post on your own blog. I will then be in touch with you via email with more details about the project and how we can proceed. Thank you very much! (more…)

Como ser feliz - Desiderata
2007-01-23 22:06:00
