Logo Redesign: Applebee?s
2007-11-12 19:25:00 In a quest to keep up with the mediocre “casual dining” chain restaurants, Applebee’s has cooked up a new logo (I think I should be working more puns into these blog posts ). If you recall Ruby Tuesday released their new logo just a couple weeks ago. Applebee’s is striving to regain the ...

Energy Technology is NOT a Bubble - I Have The Power! - Blog on Design News
2007-10-24 16:52:00 Energy Technology is NOT a Bubble - I Have The Power! - Blog on Design News - 460000246So long as people and companies get the same level of service (i.e., illumination in the case of CFLs), they will naturally gravitate toward the most economical solution. Gross inefficiencies inherent in our modern energy distribution network make ripe pickings for companies that can improve their clients? bottom lines. By hacking away at conventional energy infrastructure, there is money to be made. Thus, renewable energy represents a real, bust-free boom, while the dot.com frenzy was merely a speculative bubble.

design float: design news portal
2007-10-04 03:51:00 [design float interface] Given my mild obsession with the distribution of information online, I still have hopes to find some sort of utility for sites like digg. Despite the never-ending stream of links to "news" about the next release of Guitar Hero and lists breaking down the minutia of geek couture, I can't help but be enamored with the idea of a democratic arena for news and information. Why should a few editors decide what stories lead? Why not trust the crowd to choose what content should make the front page? In principle, digg is great. In reality, the (recently rejigged) interface, user culture and a few policies that blatantly contradict the underlying philosophy of the site leave much to be desired. My major gripe with digg is its archaic system for classifying content. If a proposed submission happens to fall into one of their extremely broad categories (i.e. "technology" or "design"), odds are your link will get lost in the maelstrom of content. Submitting a design or...

Weekly web design news link roundup
2007-09-30 04:58:00 I found a great article today from Molly Holzschlag about split brain theory and the day-to-day lives of web designers. I found another gem at David Airey's blog about following logo design trends. He asks his readers whether they follow any trends in logo design. I of course believe it is impossible to ignore any design trends. I found a great article on blogging from ProBlogger and their guest speaker Kelly Phillips Erb, who talks about tax deductions that bloggers overlook at tax time. This article can be helpful for anyone that counts blogging as part of their business. My last article that I want to spread for this week comes from SEOMoz about the importance in understanding that a link is just a link when it comes to SEO. Summarized, the article stresses the importance that one bad link isn't going to kill you.
