A Tradition That Ought To Lose Its Legs
2008-06-05 15:49:00
(c) OnFrozenBlog - http://www.onfrozenblog.com/ - I’m octpoi-ed out. Have had it with those Motor City slimers and the slime tosses of them. They wash up on our frozen shores whenever the Wings make a nice run, and sometimes before, and it’s an outdated tradition that is best retired. They’re about the ugliest of sea ...
Ice Can Be Nice in June
2008-06-03 23:20:00
(c) OnFrozenBlog - http://www.onfrozenblog.com/ - Last night’s game 5 was easily the best game of these Stanley Cup Finals, and perhaps the best finals game in years. Near the top of NBC’s broadcast, did you catch play-by-play pro Mike Emerick’s referencing the temperature of Joe Louis Arena’s ice sheet?  A frosty eight degrees. That’s about 12 degrees ...
On the Stanley Cup Road, It?s No HoJo Lodging for the Wings
2008-06-03 18:21:00
(c) OnFrozenBlog - http://www.onfrozenblog.com/ - One reason the Red Wings may not be terribly disappointed to play Game 6: a potential return to the Nemacolin Woodlands Resort, “one of only 21 hotels and resorts in the world to host AAA Five-Diamond lodging and dining.” The team took up residence there last week, for ...
Game 5 Recap
2008-06-03 14:22:00
I?m awake...barely after staying up for game five of the Stanley Cup finals. Although I managed to fall asleep during part of the second overtime, I was wide awake for the third overtime and Petr Sykora?s winning goal. I was so excited by the goal that I had difficulty falling asleep. While I was lying in my bed, I couldn?t get the "California Soul" song from the Dockers commercial out of my head.Anyway, what an amazing win. When Detroit took a 3-2 lead in the third period, I though the series was over. However, Max Talbot?s goal with about 30 seconds remaining in regulation kept the Penguins alive. Despite Detroit dominating play in the overtimes, Marc-Andre Fleury made 55 saves leading the Penguins to victory. Here are all of the links you need for more about the Red Wings-Penguins game:- Coverage from the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette- A special thanks to Seth Rorabaugh of the P-G?s Empty Netters for conducting a live-blog of game five. I was able to read what I missed in the sec...
Hockeytown Seeing Red
2008-06-02 22:03:00

Much Ado About Mats
2008-05-30 09:03:00
Much has been made in regards to Mats Sundin's comments about his hockey future. Will he stay? Will he go? Will he hang up the skates? No one, not even Sundin apparently, knows. Unfortunately, it looks like this situation is going to drag on for another few weeks until Sundin figures things out.
On Outdoor Puck, the NHL Says Chicago Is Its Kind of Town

Bucci Gets a Little Overexcited
2008-05-29 17:42:00
(c) OnFrozenBlog - http://www.onfrozenblog.com/ - 1980 = 2008? Nope.In his latest bout of Penguin love (hmm, I suppose that phrase could generate some non-traditional search hits), ESPN columnist and host John Buccigross drew some questionable comparisons, including the “almost joyless” Detroit Red Wings’ resemblence to the 1980 Soviet Red Army team, and the ...
Missing a Mismatch in May
2008-05-27 15:54:00
(c) OnFrozenBlog - http://www.onfrozenblog.com/ - Bettman made us wait a week for this mismatch? How is it that so broad a spectrum of press had so difficult a time recognizing the glaring discrepancies between these two teams? “Fooled by youth” is one explanation. In the pressure cooker of a Cup Finals, the Penguins ...
Detroit Red Wings Job Opening
2008-05-26 16:35:00
Although we are in the midst of the Stanley Cup finals, the Detroit Red Wings are advertising for a job opening. No, this is not a joke about the age of defensemen Chris Chelios, who was a healthy scratch in game one, and the fact that it may be time for him to retire.Instead, the Red Wings are seeking a Director of Group Sales. This makes some sense as the team has struggled with attendance this season (as noted by Sports Illustrated and in my experience attending a game in December) despite being the best team during the regular season and now advancing to the NHL finals. The Director of Group Sales position requires a Bachelor's degree with preferred concentration in communications, journalism, marketing, business, and/or management and five years related industry experience and/or training. Some of the responsibilities include:? Coordinate programs that will maximize event ticket sales to groups, including but not limited to school organizations, senior citizen organization...

2008 Stanley Cup final: Pittsburgh Penguins vs Detroit Red Wings.
2008-05-22 02:26:00
The quest for the Stanley Cup began with 16 teams and three elimination rounds later, the field has been reduced to the last two.To the opinion of the majority of hockey observers and backed by their impressive playoff records, the Pittsburgh Penguins and the Detroit Red Wings represent the two big forces both in the Eastern and the Western conference. The Penguins tied a NHL playoff record by winning their three first matches of every series along the way. The Senators, swept in four games, while the Rangers and the Flyers both managed to win a single game in their home building after falling 0-3 to the Penguins. A 12-2 record for three rounds is not common. The offense never slowed down. Sidney Crosby, Evgeni Malkin, Marian Hossa are producing on a great pace while players like Jordan Staal, Pascal Dupuis and Maxime Talbot can score big goals at critical times. Defense men Sergei Gonchar supports the offense and has valuable experience at the defense position. Another defense men wo...
