Fair & Lovely?
2008-05-08 14:13:00

I’d thought that with our generation we would see this disappear but a recent dinner conversation reminded me that we ...
Greatest rail journey: London to Dhaka via Delhi in 23 days
2008-04-22 19:47:00
In what would be the world's greatest rail journey, a new rail link, to be opened later this year, will enable one to undertake a 23-day journey by train from London to Dhaka via New Delhi. The 7000-mile Trans-Asia railway network will follow one of the old Silk Roads through Istanbul, Tehran, Lahore and Delhi. The world's "greatest railway journey" will be longer than the Trans-Siberian railway, which spans 5772 miles, reported the Times Online.India has already earmarked 90 million pounds to extend its vast rail network towards its border with Burma. From there just 218 miles of missing track stands in the way of an overland rail journey from London to Singapore.Under a UN-sponsored scheme, Pakistan and Iran will link up their lines in the coming months to join the sub-continent's track to that of Europe for the first time. The UN said the link would open up new trade routes within Asia and give the former Soviet republics of central Asia rail access to Iran's strategic seaport...

[MyTuneBD.Com] Roundtable on "Reducing Traffic Congestion in Dhaka"
2008-01-13 11:14:00
Roundtable Discussion on "Reducing Traffic Congestion in Dhaka and Improving the Transport Situation" Dear Sir/Madam Greetings. Traffic congestion in Dhaka is a problem of great magnitude, from which the residents have long been suffering. Meanwhile, many initiatives have been taken to improve the situation. In order to reduce congestion, it is important to improve the quality of public transport, as well as conditions for walking and fuel-free travel. Traffic congestion must be reduced in order to improve the country's economic situation. Possibilities for the future must be considered when designing plans and policies, including traffic speed, time, expense, safety, as well as other needs of the residents, including economic, social, and environmental. The government has created a twenty-year Strategic Transport Plan (STP) for Dhaka, which is still under consideration. In its current form, adoption of STP would likely lead to increased travel time an...
[MyTuneBD.Com] Round Table Discussion on Transport Planning of Dhaka city
2008-01-10 07:53:00
Respected Colleague/ Friend, You know that the 20-years Strategic Transport Plan (STP) prepared/submitted by DTCB is under active consideration of the government for implementation. Towards this end a round table discussion has been organized as under: Topic : Environment-friendly Fuel-saving and Pro-people Transport system – Present and Future of Dhaka City Venue : National Press Club, VIP Lounge Date : 12 January 2007 (Saturday) Time : 3:00 pm Prof. Muzaffer Ahmed, President, BAPA will preside over the program. *Image: http://i216.photobucket.com/alb-ums/cc93/ashfaqur_rahman/22.jpg- * *The Westin is the latest posh entry into Dhaka's hotel scenario. It is the international hotel chain's most recent addition to this sub-continent. Opened in July this year, The Westin Dhaka is obviously adorned with a number of exciting eateries. Taste is one of those.* * Taste is an all -day dining place. There are two entrances. Entry through any one of these would lead the guest to the stylish dining hall. Contemporary art works by both local and foreign artistes usher in a warm welcome. The crescent ceiling, coupled with the wooden floor make the place more beautiful. Warm and soft lighting and orchid twined vases add to the beauty of the place.* * Since it is an allday dining, there are spreads (buffets) during the three meals along with a la carte. It is termed as interactive dining, since the diners have all the opportunities and means to interact with the chefs. The term interactive dining simply m...
