Hasselt heeft eigen Hasselter Dialect Woordenboek
2008-11-10 12:32:00
Kansai Dialect
2008-02-07 15:57:00
???Spoken by roughly 20 million people, Kansai dialect is the standard form of speech in western Japan. This area includes Osaka, Kyoto, Hyogo, Shiga, Wakayama, and Mie Prefectures. It is the main linguistic and cultural counter balance to "hyojungo," or standard Japanese, which is spoken in the Tokyo area of eastern Japan.Kansai dialect is highly influential because of its association with Osaka comedians, Kobe mobsters, and Kyoto geisha--and can be heard frequently on television. The rivalry and tension, linguistic and otherwise, between Tokyo and Osaka is one of the great dramas in Japanese life. The basic difference between the language of Tokyo and, say, Osaka has to do in part with word endings. In Tokyo, "ikanai" ??????equals "I/you/he don't/doesn't go." In the West of Japan, you would say "ikahen" or "ikimahen." In the past tense, too, things are different in Kansai. In Tokyo: "tabenakatta" ????????means "I/you/he didn't eat." Kansai: "tabehenkatta" or "tabenkatta."Another d...
Dialect out loud.

Click on the image to the right to see the full size page.I have been having blogger issues. Now the spell checker doesn?t work, which is a proiblem for me, because my fingers don?t necessarily type what my brain tells them to. Several friends have pointed out, you?re a writer, you shouldn?t need a spell checker. This is true, I shouldn?t need a spell checker, but I do. Mississipi is always fun for me to remember how to spell, and I come form Australia, so there?s a whole host of Global words I?m going to screw up. I kept spelling Georgre W. Bush ?A-R-S-E-H-O-L-E? until word told me that was wrong. Which brings me back to the point of this little diatribe. Several of you have already pointed and said, ?Hey! That?s not how you spell arsehole!? but it is, in Australia at least. Your native dialect is beautiful, never forget it, always come back to it. I read a lot of Robbie Burns? poetry; he tells great stories, but he told great stories in his own voice, the words of the world ...

Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT): Core Mindfulness
2008-01-24 08:41:00
written by Tara Guest Arnold, PhD, LCSW Dialectical behavior therapy or DBT is an offspring of cognitive behavior therapy that incorporates Eastern meditative practices. The dialectic comes from the synthesis of opposites, particularly acceptance and change that is a tenet core to the DBT philosophy. We accept ourselves as good enough, and we recognize ...
Dialectic at work?
2008-01-23 19:04:00
Besides the princes of the world from the “West” calling for a “New World Order,” now we have Ahmadinejad calling for one.  This is classic Satanic dialectic at work, though I am somewhat surprised to see it expressed in such plain terms from Islamo-Fascists.  But really, fascism is fascism, whether it be disguised under the ...
An Interesting Story about Kelatanese Dialect
2008-01-18 17:03:00
The Malays in Malaysia speak different dialects although all use standard Malay at official functions. In Penang, the Malays use 'hang' to mean 'you' and not 'awak', 'engkau' or 'kamu' when speaking in their dialect. Instead of 'dahaga', they will say 'lapar air' (hungry for water) when 'thirsty' is intended. The word 'air' (water) is pronounced as 'ayak' too. As for Kelantanese dialect of Malay, 'makan' (eat) is rendered 'ma kay' verbally whereas the word is pronounced as 'makang' by the Malays in Terengganu, another state in Malaysia. If a road is named 'Jalan Fatimah', the Malays in Terengganu will say 'Jalang Fatimah' which has a bad connotation in standard Malay because 'jalang' means 'prostitute'. There is a famous story about the Malay dialect in Kelantan which I would like to share with you. It goes like this. A man from another state in Malaysia wanted to take a taxi to his hotel. The following was the conversation between t...
Tineke van Buren schrijft kinderbijbel in dialect
2007-12-24 12:35:00
The Hegelian Dialectic and Iraq
2007-10-26 19:24:00
Kibbitz: Justin Raimondo writes an interesting article that clearly describes the how the “Devil’s Logic” (i.e., the Hegelian Dialectic) is at work in the calculated decisions that first led the United States to attack Iraq and Afghanistan and now plays itself out in constant propaganda and disinformation campaigns delivered by the Bush Administration. (What Raimondo fails to see, however, is the Satanic connection ...
The Dialectic Rationalization Of Kabalistic Materialism: Johnny Oops
2007-10-01 15:40:00
Johnny woke up to a kind of adulation he could only have dreamed of in the past. The episode with God’s Hand lightening bolt had made him famous as a new prophet throughout Europe and the United States. In recognition of the ancient Jewish mystic benefits that his wife Sarhara had persuaded him had helped him become a recognized prophet, he added the name of their religion to his own. Sahara’s father, Rabbi Frenbren, was not sure whether this was to be taken as a blessing or a curse, and retreated into his library to study his ancient Kabala texts in hope of finding an answer. Johnny had no such doubts and returned to the United States, which awaited his arrival with great anticipation.Johnny said, “Look at that Sarhara, there are thousands of our followers waiting to greet us here at the airport. Isn’t this wonderful?”“Yes, yes, it is wonderful,” replied Sahara, tugging at his sleeve. “The people love you, but what do we next?”Johnny smiled and said, “I have a g...

Learning Neapolitan Dialect: Henry Higgins? Evil Twin
2007-08-27 15:36:00
I sometimes feel like I?m living an inverse ?My Fair Lady,? with Angelo as Henry Higgins? evil twin, because instead of making me more refined, Angelo delights in teaching me insulting phrases in the Neapolitan dialect. He even has a reason for this. You see, soccer, err, football, I mean, calcio season is starting, and Angelo ...

A Dangerous Dialectic
2007-03-25 07:16:00
the two-party system exists by staking out the two most extreme positions on any issue, and then moving to the middle on a compromise measure that works for everyone. Some call this consensus building - democracy, I call it Marxism, plain and simple.

Christophe Chalamet: dialectical theologians
2006-10-03 00:57:03
?It is strange to realize that we are so close to each other and yet speak such different languages? ? with these words, Karl Barth summed up his relationship to his old friend and nemesis, Rudolf Bultmann. The relationship between Barth and Bultmann is one of the most fascinating and most perplexing subplots in the story of modern theology. From these two thinkers sprung the two dominant schools of twentieth-century theology ? and while they had originally viewed themselves as allies in a common cause, Barth and Bultmann came to regard each other with mutual hostility, aversion, and above all bewilderment. Given all this, it?s unfortunate that so few books have explored in detail the relationship between these two theological giants. So it was a real joy to discover Christophe Chalamet?s impressive new study: Dialectical Theologians: Wilhelm Herrmann, Karl Barth and Rudolf Bultmann (Zurich: TVZ, 2005) ? and I?m grateful to TVZ for kindly sending me a review copy. In this book, Chalam...
