PTCL applying call charges after every 15 minutes on dialup internet
2007-09-22 16:42:00
PTCL has anounced to apply call charges after every 15 minutes once dialup is connected. Previously just one call was charged on every dialup connnection.People all over Pakistan are protesting against this decision. Minimam dialup charges are now Rs 10 per hour that were previously Rs 2 per hour.According to my opinion, this decision is made to discourage massive dialup users and diverting them to get a broadband connection (which is still nto affordable by all users)

Free World Dialup Offers Voice Mail To FaceBook Users-Less Unified, More Di
2007-09-15 18:42:00
First up was iotum's Conference Calling feature for Facebook users. Now FWD has unveiled what I'd like to call FaceMail, a new VoiceMail service for FaceBook users. This is good for those that spend all their life in FaceBook, but like Skype voice mail, it isn't portable yet so it means having to go to another place to listen to more messages versus having them all in one place (Grand Central, CommuniKate, Ring Central) which is and has been the mantra of those in the unified messaging space for years and not "diversified messaging" which both FaceMail and Skype Voice Mail fall into. What does it need? 1) An RSS Feed for Each Message. That way those who use feed readers get notified. This would be a great tool for inbound call centers or group support teams. 2) The ability for the message to be fed to GrandCentral. Let's face it, with so much going on in the world of mashups, Google and GC are poised to be at the epicenter. 3) A presence feature, one ...
PCDialup.com Launches
2007-03-15 13:57:00
Did you know that over 40% of Internet users are still using dialup, which is pretty amazing. These people either cannot get broadband, or find that it's too expensive. For those who must use dialup or who choose to use dialup, there's no reason to pay ten to twenty dollars for service anymore. The huge migration over to broadband has created a glut of modem capacity, and PCDialup.com is using this excess capacity to offer silly low pricing. They offer two services, basic and accelerated. Basic dialup service is designed for customers who make light to moderate use of the Internet. This may be a good fit if you don't use dialup very often, for example as a backup connection in case of an outage of your cable or DSL broadband. If you use the Internet regularly, consider our accelerated dialup service for just $1 m...
The Illusion of Accelerated Dialup
2006-12-09 17:43:01
BEWARE: Web developer letting off steam. Read at your own risk. Okay, I've had it. I'm tired of telling people that what they're seeing on their screen isn't really what my site looks like. I'm tired of explaining to site users that I did not populate my site with sucky graphics. In point of fact, I'm sick and tired of the entire concept of "Accelerated Dialup" that ISPs have been selling for years. It's a myth, an illusion people; it doesn't exist. Now, I realize, of course, that my audience here is primarily web developers and that this isn't anything they don't already know, but I just can't stand it anymore. I'm sure you understand my need for a rant here. I'm over at a friend's house or a get-together or something. Someone walks up to me and says something like, "I just heard that you handle such-and-such website." I straighten up and get prepared to receive the unsolicited commendations I'm...

Dialup or Always Online
2006-12-06 04:05:20
The various ways that people connect to the internet are quite vast indeed. There are wired and wireless ways of doing so. In some cases, one either dials up or is always online. So, what is the difference?Dialup Internet entails the user entering a Username and Password to access the internet. Dialup speeds usually go up to 56 kbps using a modem. Above that ADSL modems are used to achieve higher speeds. Even with some of these DSL modems one has to dialup. This is especially true with USB Modems.Always Online does not require the user to enter a username and password. Just like a LAN (Local Area Network), once the computer is turned on and the operating system loads, all one has to do is open the web browser and start surfing. This is my favourite choice. An Ethernet connection allows this to happen whereby the Internet c0nnection is 'kept alive' via the DSl Modem once it is connected to a power source and the DSL line.Which do you prefer? I can bet it is the Always Online connec...
