Pre-Game: Arizona Diamondbacks (13-13) @ New York Mets (13-12)
2012-05-04 22:16:00 The New York Mets return home tonight coming off of a road trip that left a really bad taste in the mouths of both the club and fan base. After sweeping the Florida Marlins, the Mets were crushed 19-8 before bouncing back and taking the series from the Colorado Rockies. Just as it seemed the poor performances were behind them once again, they were swept by the reigning MLB cellar dweller Houston Astros in Texas.Coming off of a much needed off day, the Mets will try their hand at snapping their three game losing street as Dillon Gee (2.2, 4.85 ERA) makes his fifth start of the year. With the exception of a dominant outing in Atlanta, Gee has been wildly inconsistent, having allowed no less than three runs per start and has allowed ten runs in his last two. Gee hasn't had much success against the Diamondbacks in his career, allowing eight runs, six earned, in eleven innings over two starts. The National League West Champion Diamondbacks will send National League Rookie of the Month Wa...

The Diamondbacks got a home run from Ryan Roberts in their defeat. The biggest story of the day was the first career start for Cashner. He looked largely effective at times, picking up a couple of strikeouts and only having to pitch out of the stretch one time on Tuesday. The only run he gave up came on the home run by Roberts, and while he was on a strict pitch count of 100, he never looked as though he was...

Diamondbacks want Webb for less than his option
2009-09-23 14:20:00 The Diamondbacks have an $8.5 million option on pitcher Brandon Webb(notes) and the word is that the team doesn't want to pay him that kind of salary next year so it may buy him out for $2 million, according to the Arizona Republic, and try to negotiate something better. The team supposedly wants Webb back. He's not promising anything, though, if the team buys him out of his contract. He is not interested in a restructured deal. Webb noted to the East Valley Tribune that the older John Smoltz(notes) has $5.5 million coming to him from the St. Louis Cardinals next year and Webb feels like he is at least worth that. There is a feeling in Arizona that when push comes to shove, the team will pick up the option but that there will be lots of talk about not picking it up before then.

Chicago Cubs @ Arizona Diamondbacks
2009-04-29 20:30:00 Little less of this. After the Cubs' lineup exploded for 11 runs last night, we head to the rubber match today at Chase Field. The good news is that Milton Bradley is back and ready to make mincemeat out of opposing pitchers (possibly literally), having gone 2-4 in his return to the lineup, raising his average to a terror-inspiring .107. In more good news, Carlos Marmol and his filthy slider should be available to pitch today. In not so good news, it looks like Aramis Ramirez, who is recovering more slowly than expected, could be headed to the DL. This means that we're more likely in for another two weeks of Fontenot at 3B (okay, I guess) and Aaron Miles at 2B (NOT OKAY, LOU!). In head-scratching news, the journalistic bastion that IS Cubs.com declares, "Cubs Get Another Weapon Back For Series Finale." At first, I thought they were talking about Bradley or Ramirez, but no, they're talking about DLee. As a "weapon." Yes, I'm sure. Now I realize that there is a school of thought ...
Chicago Cubs @ Arizona Diamondbacks 8:40 CT/9:40 ET WGN
2009-04-29 02:53:00 Can't any of you people hit a #$#@*$@#$@$% curveball? Let's try this thing again. Tonight, Milton Bradley returns to the lineup, and if there was ever a time to see that fiery, competitive, rah-rah guy that fires up all his teammates, it's now. No, we're not in trouble yet, but you can see "We're in trouble" from here. One of the Carlos Zambranos will be on the hill tonight for the Cubs, though which one is anyone's guess. There's been a lot of speculation lately that Zambrano is hurt. I don't think so; remember, he goes throught his "dead arm" period every season (some times earlier than others), and that might be a bit of what we're seeing now. Let's just hope that Z can keep it in the park and that he can get some run support. And let's also hope that the D'backs hit as few balls to Fontenot as possible. Only time will tell. Lineup: Soriano Theriot Fukudome Hufflepuff Bradley Fontenot Hill Miles Zambrano See you all at over at WGN in a few.
Chicago Cubs @ Arizona Diamondbacks 8:40 CT/9:40 ET
2009-04-28 01:41:00 Welcome to Arizona and baseball in the wee small hours of the morning. We're just going to pray this one doesn't go into extra innings, because a) we'll never make it for the whole game (well, Bob might, but he's in Australia), and b) we currently lack a sufficient number of players to go 9 innings, much less more. Few of us actually enjoy baseball that starts at the time we usually start nodding off (at least the time those of us with small children start nodding off), but tonight, we're going to be prepared, because, as Les Stroud would want us all to remember, you don't go into the desert on a whim. Bust out a pencil and paper kids, because this is what you're going to need: 1)Coffee: Use this for the first few innings of the game, to give yourself a chemical inducement to make it through the first five innings. The heartier amongst us will partake in the nectar of the gods, otherwise known as Diet Mountain Dew. 2) A beverage that would have been illegal under Prohibiti...

It sure would be nice to win tonight though, so here's some suggestions (feel free to vote in the comments). What would most help this team get back on track? 1.
