India Diaries: Bracelet Overload
2009-09-22 17:15:00 When I was in India, I went crazy and bought at ton of cheap bracelets from the Dilli Haat market. I basically have sleeves of bracelets in different colours. Here are some of my finds that I’ve been posting on twitter. I’m wearing two sets here. The set that looks blue is actually purple. I remember it well. I was still unsure whether I wanted to even consider medicine as a career.I mean, back then, my friends and I were just documenting our silly lives on old video tape. Remember this video I posted at Christmas? Anyway, the original airing of this PBS special really impacted me. And, in fact, I do remember thinking about what my first day of medical school would be like. I think I made a VHS recording of this show and played it back right before med school.Anyway, a reunion show is going to take place tonight on PBS. Check out the Doctors' Diaries link on the NOVA website. Also check out the video above for a sneak peak preview of tonight's part one episode. Who knows? My mom would sew stuff for me here and there, and I usually helped out to an extent, but not enough to advance my skills much. AllMusic Filtered (Add it to your diaries)
2008-02-13 19:47:00 Continuing the filtering policy in Iran, I just encountered that stupid sign again while trying to open allmusic website. And I have no idea why! AllMusic is simply a very professional website on music containing no nudity, sexual or violent material. Many music blogs have been filtered. Filtering is so easy, it's just a click away but it's the poor surfer that will lose a lot. I personally have no problem unf-iltering the pages but this "action" is so cruel. I don't know what is considered "illegal" in a website like Pitchfork or AllMusic that makes that stupid man click on it to filter it away. Then I thought for an instant: Music is a sin! Being music is simply enough. It's not about nudity or anything related. Go watch Salo!

A fair enough question; I've devoted very little space to discussing my actual, nuts and bolts craft ventures. I'm here to rectify that. What do I do? What have I made? How did it all begin? I think my penchant for making things myself can be traced back to fourth grade when my mom gave me free reign with her sewing machine to make a skirt. I had no idea what I was doing. No pattern, no idea of how actual clothing should be constructed, just a picture in my mind of what I thought the 'it' skirt of the day was - a mid-calf, pencil type thing with a slit in the back from which some lace peeked out. I managed to put something together (probably with at least some help from my mom), and although it promptly ripped the following morning when I was getting on the school bus, it was wearable enough to make it out the door. It was pretty terrible, but I was mighty proud.Regretfully, m...
