Desert Dog's Top UFC 82 Underdogs To Keep An Eye On
2008-02-22 17:51:00
There are some unique match ups in line for UFC 82 and a couple of them are very prime dog bets. Aside from the slight under dogs like Tanner, Henderson, and Fioravanti, there are two big underdogs who are sliding under the radar a bit.Dustin Hazelette (+365 Bookmaker) and David Bielkheden (+400 Bookmaker) may not be names you recogognize immediately but they are serious contenders against Koscheck and Sanchez respectively. The odds offered are reflective of name recognition and not the actual match ups at hand. It's probable that only one of these guys will pull of an upset, but with the odds offered a bet on both will pay off nicely, even with only one of them winning.Dustin Hazellett is a smart submission specialist who has had his best success against agressive wrestlers and strikers. His skill set on the ground plays into Koscheck's ground game. Hazellett is very proficient at avoiding damage on his back and then laying on the submission. On his feet he's as good as Koshchec...

Jon Fitch vs Diego Sanchez UFC 76 Fight Video Preview
2007-09-21 18:58:00
This weekend Jon Fitch will take on Diego Sanchez. Coming off his first and only loss in the UFC to Josh Koscheck, Diego has something to prove, although in my opinion the fight should have been a draw, but I’m not referee, so whatever.  Jon Fitch also has something to prove, he’s had 6 fights and 6 wins in the UFC already, and he’s gone unnoticed.  This is a perfect opportunity for Jon to be in the spotlight and eventually find himself a title shot.  Check out the UFC 76 Jon Fitch vs Diego Sanchez preview video.
Diego Sanchez Does Not Want To Get Close With St. Pierre
2007-09-10 15:32:00
When famed mixed martial arts trainer, Greg Jackson revealed that The Ultimate Fighter season 1 winner, Diego Sanchez had left his camp it left many fans scratching their heads. Sanchez, who only had one recent loss to Josh Koscheck, experienced a lot of success training with the Jackson camp sporting a 19-1 record. In an ...

Irish Whip Fighting Exclusive: Jon Fitch Interview
2007-08-04 00:57:00
IrishWhipFighting.com had a chance to speak to UFC Welterweight Jon Fitch. Fitch is quickly climbing up the welterweight ranks and has had much success in the UFC thus far. See what Fitch has to say about his experiences as a fighter and his upcoming fight against Diego Sanchez at UFC 76 on September 22.Hey Jon, thanks for taking the time to take this interview. We here at Irish Whip Fighting are huge fans and cannot thank you enough for your support! Irish Whip Fighting would also like to congratulate you for your dominating performance at UFN 10 and racking up another jaw-dropping victory over Roan Carneiro.General...Masson Liang: What influenced you to start a career in mixed martial arts?Jon Fitch: My assistant coach at Purdue University, Tom Erikson, was fighting in Pride at the time. He would have Gary Goodridge and Mark Coleman come into town and help him train. It looked like fun so I would get involved and help out. I?ve been hooked ever since. ML: Who are your biggest infl...
BJ Penn to Fight Diego Sanchez
2007-07-04 17:27:00
According to Sherdog.com this morning, sources say that BJ "The Prodigy" Penn will now face off against Diego "Nightmare" Sanchez on UFC 74's undercard. UFC 74's main event features a UFC heavyweight title fight between Randy "The Natural" Couture and Gabriel Gonzaga, which is set to take place on August 25, 2007 at the Mandalay Bay in Les Vegas, Nevada. It had already been rumored that Sanchez was set to make his appearance at UFC 74, but against PRIDE veteran Hayato Sakurai. Sources of Sherdog.com seem to have put out the fire supporting those rumors.Penn, the 28-year-old Hawaii native, recently stopped Jens "Little Evil" Pulver, in a lightweight battle, with an extraordinary submission win at the Ultimate Fighter 5 Finale. However, the same thing cannot be said for Diego Sanchez. Sanchez tarnished his perfect MMA record with lackluster performance, to say the least. Sanchez lost by a unanimous decision to long hated opponent Josh Koscheck at UFC 69: Shootout, where the two circle...
Let the goodness seep in?
2007-06-09 05:31:00
According to www.mmahq.com, Diego ?The Nightmare? Sanchez will be going toe to toe with Pride FC fighter Hayato ?Mach? Sakurai at UFC 74 in August. Hayato Sakurai is an outstanding Japanese mixed marital artist with an impressive record of (30-7-2). Sakurai holds recent wins over: Joachim Hansen, Jens Pulver and Shinya Aoki, just to name a few. Sakurai did compete at UFC 36 against Matt Hughes, but couldn?t overcome Hughes? overwhelming power and was stopped via TKO in the fourth round. Sakurai is well versed in his techniques and at one time considered pound for pound one of the greatest fighters.I think Diego Sanchez needs no introduction, but what the hell. Sanchez gained much popularity on The Ultimate Fighter television series with his ?unique? ways (i.e. Yoga, utilizing ?Chi? or energy from the earth). Sanchez is best known for this nearly flawless record, with the exception of his recent loss to Josh Koscheck. Horrendous fight by the way, nice display of immense improved st...
Diego Sanchez allowed to fight with a mysterious and unidentified blood ail
2007-05-25 14:29:00
Diego Sanchez had a staph infection during his UFC 69 to Josh Koscheck. That's what Dana White told reporters during a telephone conference call yesterday. "Diego was going to retire at the weigh-ins that day because a test came up that he had hepatitis C," White said. At some point doctors decided that he didn't have hep-C, but couldn't determine what it was. "The next day after the fight," White said, "he’s got a hole in his thigh the size of a coffee cup; He had a staph infection and they couldn’t diagnose what was wrong with him. ... Then the fight made more sense." The curious thing from this story is that the UFC would let a fighter with a mysterious and unidentified blood ailment compete.Lay and Pray
Diego Sanchez: ‘I am a fighter for UFC with a record of 20-0′
2007-04-10 22:58:00
From UFC Mania: Denile just ain’t a river in Egypt, Diego. I just visited the MySpace page of Diego Sanchez and noticed something funny. He claims to have 20 wins against zero defeats, even though he dropped a unanimous decision to bitter rival Josh Koscheck at UFC 69 this weekend. According to Sherdog.com, Sanchez is 17-1. And according to UFC.com, the “Nightmare” is 19-0 (clearly not updated since the result). Which source you tend to trust — and we always use Sherdog — isn’t the issue here. Because neither of them credit Sanchez with 20 mixed martial wins. Sanchez, apparently, still thinks he is undefeated. Or, it’s a rather suspect typo. You decide.
Dana White makes excuses for Diego Sanchez
2007-04-10 08:08:00
UFC 69 could not have gone much worse for Diego Sanchez. First, he loses his head at the weigh-in trying to make a statement by shoving Josh Koscheck. Not only was it a bush-league move, but Sanchez was the one who ended up falling down. And, as it turned out, that was the best shot he landed on Koscheck over the course of two days in Houston. "The Nightmare" had one in the octagon. Instead of fighting to win, Sanchez fought not to lose - a strategy that always fails. As for Koscheck, what his effort lacked in style points, it more than made up for in execution. He had a game plan to keep the fight standing and keep Sanchez off-balance. It worked to perfection. Did Sanchez ever actually hit Koscheck? The fans let the two fighters have it with plenty of booing, but Koscheck did what he had to do to win the fight. Check out my post-fight exchange with UFC boss Dana White, who was critical of Sanchez's lack of effort. Brawl Sports: "Did Sanchez psyche himself out?"Dana Wh...
Diego Sanchez: This Time It’s Personal
2007-04-04 16:41:00
Wednesday, April 04, 2007 By Daniel S. Archuleta This is the stuff that movies are made of. Two rivals pitted against each other in combat. The end result can only mean the demise and death of the lesser man … (insert evil laugh).Well maybe not that serious; but this is as serious as it gets as far as mixed martial arts goes.Read More
Diego Sanchez Vows to Not Test Positive Again
2007-04-04 16:37:00
By Steve SievertDiego Sanchez gets a lot of run in the world of mixed martial arts and deservedly so. He is one of the best young fighters in the sport, has yet to lose in 19 MMA bouts and is coming off a highlight-reel KO of Joe Riggs in his last bout. However, one recent development in his career has received little in the way of publicity -- a drug-related suspension following his December dismantling of Riggs in San Diego.Sanchez tested positive for marijuana after the Dec. 13 fight. He was suspended for three months from the date of the fight and fined $500 by the California State Athletic Commission. Interestingly, word of the positive drug test was kept under wraps for more than three months before Carlos Arias broke the story March 22 in the Orange County Register. MMAWeekly.com picked it up from there. The CSAC said it didn't make the failed test public because no one asked. The flunked test also was conspicuously absent from the UFC Web site, despite the fact that other dru...
Diego Sanchez interview
2007-04-02 01:58:00
By Denny BurkholderCBS SportsLine.com Staff WriterDiego "The Nightmare" Sanchez is focused on Josh Koscheck. He ought to be. Every time Sanchez steps into the Octagon, he puts his perfect MMA record (17-0 overall, 6-0 UFC) on the line. He risks moving backward in the line for a UFC welterweight title shot. He risks losing the momentum he's gained from beating every guy UFC has placed in his path since he won the first season of The Ultimate Fighter in 2005.
Josh Koscheck: Diego Sanchez’s Family is Weird, Drunk
2007-03-31 22:12:00
The war of worlds between The Ultimate Fighter season one castmates Josh Koscheck (8-1 MMA, 6-1 UFC) and Diego Sanchez (17-0 MMA, 6-0 UFC), who meet on the main card of next weekend’s UFC 69 event, just keeps getting better and better. Although the two rising welterweights were anything but best friends after Sanchez squeaked out a semifinal split-decision win on the show, the two fighters have gotten downright personal in the past couple months. The latest round of attacks was started when Sanchez left a message on Koscheck’s MySpage page, in which he told the “blanket” he better bring a some “balls” to their upcoming fight. (Diego, a world-class fighter? Sure. World-class trash-talker? Not so much.)ENTIRE ARTICLE is available only at UFC Junkie.
