2008-05-24 00:43:00 Ford truck diesel engine supplier to idle plant The Indianapolis-based International Truck and Engine Corp. plant that supplies diesel engines for Ford's F-250, F-350 and F-450 and Super Duty truck will temporarily close, due to the automaker scaling back production of the full-size trucks. Yesterday, Ford announced even more cuts, though those did not have any bearing on the engine supplier's closure, which starts today. The supplier was already due to close for maintenance in the first two weeks of July, according to company spokesperson Roy Wiley in an Automotive News report. While it's not known if the supplier will take the time to perform the maintenance now and remain open in July, it is doubtful, as the decision would be a last-minute one. The plant supplies Ford's Louisville, Kentucky truck plant, which builds the F-series pickup trucks.

Fiat claims an eight percent drop. The 105 HP version is capable of using just 4.9 liters every 100 km (which is 48 mpg), which is even improved in the "eco" versions to 4.5 l/100 km (52 mpg) and 119 g of CO2 per km. First, their initial diesel engines didn't pass the emission standards in all the 50 states and now, they have just issued a major recall for 9004 cars. The problem: apparently it lies in a crankshaft sensor that can fail, which causes the engine to lose power and causes your vehicle to stop running. Our suggestion: get it fixed ASAP. The recall affects 2007 E320 Bluetec, ML320 CDI, and GL320 CDI models. I am really hoping that BMW will not have all these problems when they will launch the 335d and the X5d in the States, later this year.

The engines could be sourced from Nissan's engine plant in Decherd, Tennessee although Nissan is calling the report only speculation at this point. Currently Nissan's only hybrid is the Altima which uses technology sourced from Toyota although an in-house developed system is due around the same time as the diesels.
