Diesel Engines and Generators. Innovative Genius
2008-04-12 09:00:00 by John Stafford Diesel engines are the combined inventions of two specific inventors, Rudolph Diesel and Herbert Akroyd Stuart. The internal engine is strictly from Diesel and the injection system is derived from Stuart. Stuart is best known for his advances in solid injection. Solid injection is derived from compressing fuel to extremely high pressures by means of pumps. It is then forced

Ford uses wind to produce diesel engines
2008-04-06 22:48:00 Wind-power is proving a popular choice for automakers in their quest to curb costs and present an environmentally-aware public face. Nissan has eight turbines at its Sunderland plant, Toyota has one planned for its Flintshire, Wales factory and even Chrysler is investing in a wind project at its Chelsea Proving Grounds in Michigan. While that may seem like a decent effort they will have to do better than that if they want to match the initiative of Ford at its Dagenham Diesel Center. Already supplied with 100 percent wind-generated electricity for its existing operations, expansion plans for a 1.4/1.6-litre Duratorq TDCi engine line means they're adding a third wind turbine to supply the extra needed power. The new installation will be handled, as before, by Ecotricity and should produce 1.8 megawatts. Check out the press release from Ford for all the details after the jump.Press Release:THIRD WIND TURBINE FOR FORD DAGENHAM'S LOW CO2 ENGINE PLANTDAGENHAM/COLOGNE, April 4, 2008 R...

Mercedes and BMW to downsize diesel engines too!
2008-03-30 15:29:00 As the pressure to reduce fuel consumption and carbon dioxide emissions continues unabated, it's not just gasoline engines that are getting the right-sizing treatment. The diesel engine is set to shrink as well, at least at BMW and Mercedes-Benz. Both manufacturers currently offer diesel V-8s of 4.4L and 4.0L sizes respectively in their top models. However, both companies are likely to start replacing their current diesel model range with newer, smaller displacement alternatives with new boosting technology that will improve the power while reducing fuel consumption. That means following the path BMW has been traveling recently with sequential twin turbocharger systems such as the one on the 123d. These setups use a pair of different sized turbos that help to enhance torque at both low and high revs. This will allow the V-8 to be replaced by inline and V-6 cylinder engines while current six cylinder applications will go to fours. All of these will also likely be combined with mild ...
Yuchai?s lineup of heavy-duty diesel engines get Euro certification
2008-03-19 02:15:00 Ready for export. China Yuchai International has received On-Board Diagnostics emission certificates from the TÜV Rheinland Group for the marque's Euro III and Euro IV compliant diesel engines. Currently, Yuchai's lineup of engines includes six series 26 Euro III models as well as the newly-developed Euro IV series, named YC6J and YC6L.This means that Yuchai's YC6J series engines (pictured) is now one of the five major Euro IV engine systems recognized by the European Union (EU). Yuchai is China's first heavy-duty diesel engine manufacturer to receive this certificate. In China, OBD systems were adopted in all National III (a Euro III emission standard equivalent) compliant light-duty vehicles. After the roll-out of National IV standards, the city of Beijing is now requiring all new medium and heavy-duty vehicles to install this system, which issues a warning if a certain emission limit is exceeded through an on-board system monitoring of the automotive exhaust system.[Sourc...

Nissan may build diesel engines in US and add a four cylinder
2007-09-17 02:26:00 The new diesel V-6 that Nissan will be installing the 2010 Maxima could end up being built in the US if Japanese press reports are accurate. The engines could be sourced from Nissan's engine plant in Decherd, Tennessee although Nissan is calling the report only speculation at this point. In addition to the Maxima V-6 a four-cylinder diesel may be added to the Altima. Currently Nissan's only hybrid is the Altima which uses technology sourced from Toyota although an in-house developed system is due around the same time as the diesels. Whether Nissan will continue with the hybrid development is unknown. [Source: Winding Road]
