2008-01-31 19:43:00 When we moved to Hawaii, I had high hopes of doing nothing but creating and selling art...well it didn't work out that way. However, I did gather a slight body of work in the form of t-shirt and card designs that I am using for personal use. I have pretty much used Photo Shop Elements or Paint Shop Pro on occasion. Plus, I have tried my hand at digital painting which is not at all like physical painting. I have yet to experience the wonderful feeling of the the drag of the the brush on a piece of Sommerset Velvet black drawing paper in the digital format. However, I am determined to continue. In the next few posts I just want to show a few things and what they have become. This guy actually became the jumping off spot for a design that I sold to a t-shirt company. I used transparencies that are for inkjet printers and easy to find plus a high quality digital art paper, now sadly discontinued, to print the paper parts and wonderful glass frames for the bookmarks (www.artchixstudio.com) . I created the bookmark and then printed the card pieces bigger to match. This is a photo of the bookmarks and the card pieces, the letters are printed on the digital paper and the teapots and flowers are printed on the transparency. 2007-08-14 04:51:00 As a print maker I need a good printer. My Epson 1280 died after six years and I purchased a new Epson 1800 today. As an engineer I know that Epson makes a great product - I worked for them for several years. As an artist I know they make a great product in part because of the wonderful media selections they have. Well I have been testing my new 1800 today. I was curious how it would do black and white. The picture above was taken with a Hasselblad about 30 years ago. I had a good 11x14 silver print so it seemed like a good test since I also had a scanned negative. I printed the scanned image - not as good as the silver image but close. I suspect that with a little effort I could make it as good since I did no tweaking in Photoshop. I think Ansel Adams would love the possibilities.

While I was away I used the local library to print a copy of my CV for a job I saw advertised whilst away. I had taken my laptop and so transferred my CV to my USB flash drive, everything was fine and we returned the next day to use the internet.I again used my flash drive as I have Portable Apps on it, although I couldn't check my email due to the library security. I left the flash drive in the computer and last night while looking for it went into a panic due to some sensitive information that is stored on the drive.This morning I called the library and when they looked it wasn't in the lost property, I didn't expect it to be there, they took my phone number just in case they found it somewhere else, and a little while ago I received a call.
