Detection vs. Direction
2008-06-04 06:22:00 In life, many of us end up learning things “the hard way.” This old phrase has been handed down through generations of stubborn-headed, strong-willed children who grow up to be parents who wish a child “just like you” on their own children. In a similar sense, “religion” has become a sort of jaded ...

Who is Headed in the Right Direction?
2008-05-31 19:41:00 What do India and China have in common? The answer is a border. That’s it? Yes, more or less. India and China have experienced phenomenal growth over the past five-to-seven years… both emerging as global economic superpowers. But the two Asian nations have their distinct experiences and their success stories are quite different. To begin with, ...
STI Direction
2008-05-30 07:24:00 Capitaland's strong rebound from oversold caught my eye. I be watching the falling window marked by red lines followed by the downtrend resistance line overhead. STI edges up cautiously. Currently MFI is pending a downtrend breakout. Money may start flowing into the market again. However i be watching the blue line resistance. If both STI and capland together with the rest of the market can break the downtrend line, it may be time to go long. However, they struggle at that level, i will initiate short positions. This is an example of ask not where the market is going but what you going to do when the market gets there. It is highly important to develop your thoughts about the market and trade accordingly. HSI is rebounding now, however, this is just a swing trade for me as there are overhead resistance nearby.DISCLAIMER: This is not an inducement to buy or sell. You should do your own analysis on top of my postings.

New Direction
2008-05-20 06:10:00 It's May and I realize that I have, again, neglected this blog for far too long. It's been over six months since I last posted anything. In that seemingly short amount of time I've finished student teaching, finished school, moved back to my hometown, found a great full-time job and gotten married. My life, as you may see is moving in a new direction; a more adult direction. For the most part this blog had been my place to post the interesting, strange and obscure, but my interest in that, although still there, seems to be waning, and I ask myself why. No answer occurs to me. Perhaps it has to do with the fact that I don't have hours during the day to simply sit at a computer and search. Then again, perhaps I am simply...heaven forbid...growing up. Both seem viable, but I much prefer the former. With that said, I (fingers crossed) recommit myself to this blog and to the vision which I initially had for it. However, in addition to this and when time permits, you may find me inser...

The Pit And The Pendulum - The Perils of Female Direction In Hollywood
2008-05-10 20:15:00 "The pendulum is swinging in the wrong direction. It is absolutely not a golden age." So claims Nancy Meyers, the most successful woman director in Hollywood, who has single-handedly proved that talent-driven romantic comedies have the capacity to do international blockbuster business -- i.e., that chick flicks have legs. If she's not happy, chances are it's not going to get any better the further you go down the food chain. From the mid-'90s onward, as independent film took its turn at the table, it seemed like a new generation of female directors was about to finally explode the old boys' network of Hollywood gender disparity. Enabled by female and female-friendly producers like Christine Vachon, Ted Hope, James Schamus, Albert Berger and Ron Yerxa plus a host of others, directors as diverse as Kimberly Peirce, Nicole Holofcener, Mary Harron, Sofia Coppola, Kasi Lemmons, Lisa Cholodenko, Lynne Ramsay, Antonia Bird, Adrienne Shelley and Sarah Polle...

Direct Marketing Strategy: Taking the Time to Think Through the Direction
2008-05-01 20:29:00 We're big proponents of approaching the marketplace with a focus on the customer. And, we truly believe that you can better target and appeal to the customer if you actually listen to them and use an analytical approach to better understand their preferences. In our view, successful direct marketing strategies are centered around the customer. Those that aren't will never be as effective. Period. In working with a couple of our clients recently, I got to thinking that for some reason, today it is more difficult to get them to understand this point. Why? Everyone is trying so hard to keep up with the day-to-day, that they aren't truly focused on where their marketing efforts are headed. They are more focused on getting the campaigns out the door. And, we're finding that the results tracking falls by the wayside if we aren't focused on assisting with this effort. Marketers are just trying to keep the calls and buyers coming in. While this is important -- you must take th...

A New Direction
2008-04-22 20:22:00 After a year and a half of writing on Maple Takedown about advertising, commercials, or whatever oddities I came across, I have decided to shut it down. I feel Maple Takedown is old, tired, and irrelevant to my interests in art, writing, and creativity. Therefore, I created The World Takes which is specifically focused on my experiences, interests, and what I like to call, inspirational creativity.Though I could simply delete The Takedown and call it a day, I can not come to deleting a year and a half of passioned determination I put into it. Sounds silly, but it is because of this blog I was able to write for other blogs, get recognized, and forge friendships. Plus, I'm linked to a few other blogs so if I delete Maple Takedown, there is no way people could ever reach The World Takes. It was a great run. Thanks.

Is Flickr Website Losing Its Original Direction?
2008-04-11 12:43:00 Thousands of Flickr users stage an online protest against the Flickr's decision to include videos in an otherwise photo-oriented website. Flickr members said they don't want Flickr, a Yahoo-owned web service, to be the next Youtube, a video-sharing site owned by Google. Wired Blog Network reported: "The big issue is the way it was implemented," said Jason Bouwmeester, a systems analyst in Canada and one of the group administrators for No Video on Flickr. "There was no public beta.... They just reset everyone's settings." I haven't read Flickr's reaction to the protest. My first thought on this issue is that if millions of members, being disappointed with Flickr videos, would leave Flickr for good and start their own photo gallery website, Flickr might reverse its decision and remove the protested video feature. Meanwhile, I've read that thousands of photographers have started their own photo-sharing websites. Maybe they want to be independ...

81% Say US Going in Wrong Direction, 41% Have A Little Sense
2008-04-04 08:39:00 Big headline: Poll: 81 percent think US on wrong track I agree. The country is on the wrong track, or should I say road? Seeing as how bad news hits the airwaves more than good news, it is no surprise that people think the country is heading in the wrong direction. I mean look at this article: More than 80 percent of Americans believe the country is headed in the wrong direction, the highest such number since the early 1990s, according to a new survey. The CBS News-New York Times poll released Thursday showed 81 percent of respondents said they believed “things have pretty seriously gotten off on the wrong track.” That was up from 69 percent a year ago, and 35 percent in early 2002. The survey comes as housing turmoil has rocked Wall Street amid an economic downturn. The economy has surpassed the war in Iraq as the dominating issue of the U.S. presidential race, and there is now nearly a national consensus that the United States faces significant problems, the poll f... |
