Title IX and the reverse discrimination argument
2011-06-03 14:00:00
The recent fight to restore men's track at the University of Delaware has raised some compelling questions about administrative transparency, athletic department priorities, and--of course--Title IX. My focus here is on the last, specifically the discussion about the legislation that has emerged since the announcement of the team's elimination in January and through the recent filing of a complaint by the team with the Office of Civil Rights (OCR).
Review "Trouble in Mind": Rehearsed Discrimination Simmers to a B
2011-02-13 16:40:00
According to Shakespeare, 'all the world is a stage.' People are constantly acting out their society assigned roles. If everybody is acting, what is real and what is pretend? And what happens when a professional actor rejects both the roles she plays in the world and on stage? The Artistic Home presents Alice Childress' Obie award-winning play TROUBLE IN MIND. It's 1957 on Broadway. A racially-mixed cast begins rehearsals for "Chaos in Belleville." Black cast members joke about the limited and stereotyped options available for black actors. Wiletta, an established actress gives the new kid tips on taking white direction as a black person. When the kid becomes the suggested submissive, jovial caricature, Wiletta starts to regret her influence. As the white director and white cast members act super-sensitive to potential racial slurs and segregation within the ensemble, their true prejudice slips out in subtle, obtuse ways. With increasing indignation, Wiletta questions ...
Should You File a Claim for Job Disability Discrimination?: The Facts
2011-01-25 17:57:00
With the U. S. job market remaining unrelenting in a still sluggish economy, the filing of discrimination lawsuits against employers has increased by 7.2% from 2009-2010.  The largest increase was from people who said they have been discriminated against due to a disability.  This increase may have something to do with the recent changes in the EEOC act in the leniency of the definition of the term disability under the Obama Administration.   Still, many employment experts say the increase in the discrimination law suits has more to do with the massive and broad lay-offs over the past couple of years.  Workers have found it difficult to find a new job after being laid-off or fired.  And the only...

Many workers tend to believe that long tenure, a good work ethic and loyalty will be rewarded by their employer.  Instead of jumping ship, many have stayed at a particular company with the reliance that such allegiance will reap long term benefits. The Supreme Court just shattered such job security by making it more difficult for older workers to prove age discrimination....

Is Wipro Engaging in Discrimination In the United States?
2009-05-21 10:48:00
This article really caught my eye. Indian IT service provider Wipro is increasing the number of US and European workers it employs so its customers in the regions will not stop buying from it if protectionism increases. At the launch of an All Party Parliamentary Group (APPG)in February, designed to improve trade between the UK and India, IT suppliers spoke about the dangers of protectionist economic policies. Wipro, which employs 97,000, people, said it wanted to increase the number of employees outside India, and it is easier now because there are more available. Currently, about 8% of its workers are from outside India. Andy Gallagher, consultant at Compass Management Consulting, said Wipro is not alone in increasing the number of staff it has outside India. He said certain roles are traditionally provided by staff local to the customer or by people from India. "The offshore/onshore model, where you fly Indian staff over for a few months at a time,is losing its attractivene...

Vivek Wadhwa Promotes Age Discrimination Against U.S. Workers
2009-03-05 00:07:00
Once again, we get the idiotorials and biased research trying to claim immigrants are critical to the U.S. economy.   Every single time,  U.S. workers are ignored, the underemployment of U.S. citizens is discounted, and most of all, the wholesale, institutionalized age discrimination that fires workers over the age of 35 and replaces them with a steady stream of cheap young labor from other countries is endorsed. In Vivek Wadhwa's constant promotion of workers who are not U.S. citizens,  once again the prejudice against Americans shows: the vast majority of these returnees were relatively young. The average age was 30 for Indian returnees, and 33 for Chinese... Wadhwa is referring to the workers leaving the United States and returning to their home countries. Note the focus on the keyword young.  The implication is if one is experienced, older, magically their talents are no longer worthwhile.   This is age discrimination at it's best and interwoven through the United States tech...
Government accused of anti-Christian discrimination
2009-02-15 22:49:00

So it is OK to discriminate against men in general and the majority community in particular. Harman's post should be renamed as the minister for inequality and social engineering.
