Marijuana Should Be Legali$ed
2008-05-11 09:21:00
* reason # 1 : People deserve freedom to use marijuana. The first and most basic reason that marijuana should be legal is that there is no good reason for it not to be legal. Some people ask 'why should marijuana be legalized?" but we should ask "Why should marijuana be illegal?" From a philosophical point of view, individuals deserve the right to make choices for themselves. The government only has a right to limit those choices if the individual's actions endanger someone else. This does not apply to marijuana, since the individual who chooses to use marijuana does so according to his or her own free will. The government also may have a right to limit individual actions if the actions pose a significant threat to the individual. But this argument does not logically apply to marijuana because marijuana is far less dangerous than some drugs which are legal, such as alcohol and tobacco. SUMMARY: Individuals deserve the right to decide whether or not they should use marijuana. ...

Well last night I woke up at about 2 am and was having a dream… but the only thing I really remember about it now was that I was having a discussion with my husband. It wasn’t bad, so I didn’t have a bad feeling about it. But I don’t remember what it was, either. I ...

Yes, the title of this post accurately reflects its adolescent tone. I have never, in my 46 years, enjoyed a presidential race but I’m enjoying the hell out of this one! You’re racist if you don’t vote for Obama! You’re misogynist if you don’t vote for Clinton! You’re both if you vote for ...

DISCUSSION OF RECRUITMENT PROCESS
2008-04-26 13:26:00
As the title itself implies, recruitment should be done in a systemized process so as to ensure that the result produced would be quality ones. This should be done systematically because it should also promote a "fair" process of elimination. What are the things that should be present in a recruitment process? Here are two things which I consider important regardless in any position:a. IQ testb. InterviewOf course, determining the exact way to approach these processes would be dependent on the requirement that the company would need. Here is also another reason why companies should need a good recruitment process:A good recruitment process can help cut the time involved in the searching, interviewing, hiring and training process. It can streamline these processes and make your search for viable candidates must more efficient. Image source: Stockxpert

It is a very interesting discussion, about the agelong conflict between science ...

WILL EISNER & PS MAGAZINE Expert Roundtable Discussion: Mr. Media Interview
2008-04-22 17:14:00
In the pantheon of comic book masters, Will Eisner?s name is at or near the top of pretty much everyone?s list. He was there at the birth of the genre in the late 1930s ? he famously turned down a submission from Jerry Siegel and Joe Shuster of a comic book about a character named Superman. Will suggested they go back to art school in Cleveland and get a little better at his craft.Eisner himself is best known as the creator of an enduring but little known character called "The Spirit." This is a big year for The Spirit, with a major motion picture written and directed by Frank Miller currently in post-production and scheduled for release in January 2009.Eisner is also known as the grandfather of the graphic novel for producing one of the genre?s earliest and most enduring works, 1978?s A Contract With God.I spent three years with Eisner, interviewing him and researching his life for the biography, Will Eisner: A Spirited Life, which was published by M Press/Dark Horse in 2005.There ...

Teachers Flirting with Students is Wrong, Looking At Teenager Discussion Bo
2008-04-21 19:57:00
I was looking at teenager discussion boards to learn more about what is going with teens. While reading all of this they wrote about all the normal teenager topics. Some wrote about how teachers are flirting and stare at them in sexual ways. When I was reading that it made me very sad and surprised. The teens wrote about it like it is a normal thing or something. That is sad it is as if they have come so used to it or something. To the teenager it is just part of high school life now that is so scary. I wonder how much of this is going on. This world is changing on how some teachers are treating students now. I thought maybe it was just in this one discussion group I was reading. Then I read more of them of teens being hit on by teacher. The teachers should be teaching them something useful for the future. What is going on in this crazy world when teachers are flirting with students like it is ok or something but it is very wrong.

Will Eisner & PS Magazine Discussion LIVE on Mr. Media, Friday, April 18, 1
2008-04-17 22:27:00
With the announcement last week that Virginia Commonwealth University Libraries has posted complete scans for 145 regular issues, 3 special issues, and 14 index issues of Will Eisner's rare PS Magazine, I thought it would be fun to have the VCU librarian in charge of the project, Cindy Jackson, as well as the author of the upcoming book, Will Eisner & PS Magazine, Paul Fitzgerald, come on Mr. Media and talk about this little known period in the comics master's career. As Eisner's authorized biographer -- you have read Will Eisner: A Spirited Life by now, haven't you? -- I certainly have a little extra interest in the topic. And with all the hype for Frank Miller's upcoming film, Will Eisner's The Spirit, the time seems extra-ripe for this!Eisner drew and was artistic editor for PS Magazine from its inception in 1951 until 1972 and these are truly rare examples of his incomparable art work and direction. In an effort to encourage soldiers to keep better care of their equipment, ...

First Pick Discussion
2008-04-15 22:03:00
I think there's a lot of important stuff going on with the Dolphins' #1 overall pick. The draft is only 11 days away and we don't have a deal set with any of the available players yet. Many have suggested we go with Matt Ryan, a ridiculous choice that only a desperate front office would make. Others want to trade down, the most logical option, but definitely not the most realistic. Some have even suggested passing on the pick to save some money. I've somewhat advocated that. Not necessary condoned it, but I think it was worth looking into. You should read a very good piece by Omar Kelly at the Sun Sentinel, maybe some of the best stuff I've seen him do. He shoots down the idea of letting the pick slide and offers half a dozen very valid points, one of which I have mentioned before: even if we slide to 3 or 4, that guy's agent will want #1 money or close to it.Now comes the news from Armando Salguero that the Dolphins are pitching a discount deal to Jake Long. They aren't inter...
Recent Discussion with Jehovah's Witness
2008-04-15 21:36:00
As many of you know I work part time at a bookstore because (a) I don't make enough with RRS to support all my bills and (b) I love books and enjoy selling them to people.  Well, yesterday morning as I was helping somebody in the religion section, a customer asked me for books on illnesses.  I walked her over to the section and pointed out some books of interest to her, and as I was walking away she stated affirmatively that she had managed to get her son to read, and that her job was accomplished for the day even if she didn't find the book she was looking for.  After suggesting that I probably read a lot of fiction because I work in a bookstore, I told her that I spent most of my time reading ancient fiction, being that my full time job was that I was a historian. read more

Discussion of the Month April: The Baneling
2008-04-12 00:00:00
Last month was all about the Zerg. For the first time members of the Community and the press had the privilege to test StarCraft II’s third race. You could read a lot about the different units and buildings, see movies and screenshots, hear about the gameplay experiences. This month’s discussion topic will be about one of the new Zerg units: The Baneling, the mutation of one of the most popular Zerg units, of the Zergling. The Baneling has undergone quite a few changes in the past couple of weeks and we’d like to hear your feedback! - Xordiah Information on the new Baneling: Now 190 damage per Baneling (40+150 to building) Increased splash range (100% damage taken throughout range) Can be well positioned to hit multiple buildings Larger & Movement Speed Slower (possible to defend with focus fire) Counters Zealots, Zerglings, base Marines (not upgraded) -More Narrow window of use Before Fast and small- Unable to defend against (focus fire) Countered ...
Fantasy Roundtable Discussion
2008-04-11 16:54:00
Hey everyone, I was planning on taking the day off today, but fortunately Rob Reed of baseballgeeks.com published our "Round Table Discussion". The question...In any given fantasy season, when is the time that a fantasy manager should decide that extreme measures are necessary (i.e., a fire sale or a free agent exodus) in order to improve a poorly performing team? Just when is it time, if ever, to lose trust in your draft and press the panic button?I tried to keep my answer in line with the niche we try to fill here at Rotonomics, that is the perspective of economics. I'd like to know what you guys thought of my answer, which is over at the site here. It's my first time participating, so any comments would be appreciated. Also, I've been toying with the idea of a fantasy mailbag. I will gladly do it if you all are interested, as sort of a weekly thing (though we would get back to you as soon as we had an answer). All in favor say "Ay" and if there are three of you, we will get it ...

Homeschooling discussion at Rockridge Nation
2008-03-31 20:36:00
Eric Haas and our friends over at the Rockridge Institute have a great Monday Weekly Workgroup feature that I encourage everybody to investigate. Today the subject is homeschooling, and that’s obviously one that’s going to matter to a lot of folks here. Several of us at S&R either are or were educators and it’s a topic our readers have demonstrated a good deal of concern for, as well. Eric frames this week’s conversation nicely: In sum, the key is that this accountability encompasses both personal and societal responsibility. We all have a responsibility to provide every child with a level and quality of education so that they are likely to develop into healthy and competent adults?both society and individual parents. This means that there is two-way accountability. Primarily, there is societal accountability ? has the community, usually through the government, provided the infrastructure and policies needed so that students can get a high quality public ...
