Distractions
2009-07-23 22:54:00
I’m sitting at the Café in the Barnes & Noble in the Citicorp Building in NYC. I came for a little inspiration. It is filled with writers and readers sipping coffee and staring out the window at the rain. I love being here, surrounded by stacks of books and people who love them. When I arrived, the café was full so I went to the second floor to the biography section to take a gander at my book on the shelf. It’s so exciting to know that it’s here, to know that several stores in Manhattan have it on the shelf. I wonder if that will ever get old. I certainly hope not.I came here to work on my novel, but my head is so full I decided I make use of the time here to organize my thoughts. Multitasking has been a chore over these last few months and it helps to just lay it all out. These are the main events:The novel – The working title is Thanksgiving. The collaboration project – It’s a big exciting secret book proposal. The big pitch – I’m working on the idea of...

Barack Obama’s Politics of Distractions
2009-03-13 13:46:00
It has become quite obvious why Barack Obama has never released his college transcripts.   Obama is dumber than a hod of bricks, Steven Thomma, McClatchy Newspapers: WASHINGTON - The deepening recession is taking a slight toll on President Barack Obama’s standing, but he’s still twice as popular as archnemesis Rush Limbaugh, according to a new McClatchy-Ipsos poll. Archnemesis?   Obama has the wrong target.   Limbaugh is not the one trying to develop nuclear weapons and threating to wipe out Israel.    That would be one Mahmoud Ahmadinejad.     Limbaugh isn’t the one attacking our Navy on the high seas.   That would be China.  Lastly, Limbaugh is not the one that tanking the United States economy.  That would be the one  himself.    Karl Rove in the Wall Street Journal: Presidents throughout history have kept lists of political foes. But the Obama White House is the first I am aware of to pick targets based on polls. Even Richard Nixon didn&r...

How To Regain Control When Distractions Are Eating Your Time

I made my ?To Do List? (for today) last night. The list was clear and prioritized. When I woke up this morning, I promised myself that I will ?somehow? complete the ?MUST DOs?. It?s almost dinner time? I can?t believe I have only finished one task. How many times have you awoken in the morning, resolved to put in a full day of work, and then marveled at how little work actually got done? (If you're like me, the answer is "too many times!")Looking back at my day, I realize that motivation or the ?To Do? List itself was not the problem. As much as I hate to admit it, distractions/interruptions were the main contributory factor.Avoidable distractions Vs ?Allowable? distractionsWe get distractions because we allow ourselves to be distracted. Surely, there is a clear distinction between distractions that are unavoidable and those we should allow. A sick child, a crisis situation at work etc. are distraction that we should allow. More often than not, it?s not these types of distraction th...

There is something sinister about the press's complicity in allowing campaign coverage to feed hungrily on endless lies. It smacks of McCarthyism. Stop repeating stuff that isn't true. It's time for news organizations to stop being shills and for serious political reporters to stop being hacks. Mark Halperin and Campbell Brown have showed the way. read more | digg story

Managing Office Distractions
2008-05-26 14:14:00
Knowingly or unknowingly a major portion of office time is distracted by some simple but common things which include mails, phone calls, visitors, tedious paper works, document searching, noise, meetings, expectations, doubt clearing, etc. This is always better to have some idea to manage these office distractions.First, organize and place every thing in right places. One who needs a thing must have access to it nearly and swiftly. Develop a routine time management procedure considering your peak and off-peak office hours. Be strict with the time you allocate for things like mail checking, replying mails, employee checking, meetings, etc.Arrange a good telephone operator-cum-customer service person who deals with all/most calls from outside and route only the needed ones to right person. Similarly arrange a front office executive to receive and help all visitors and to route only qualified ones to right person. File handling is a serious issue. A manager must make sure that all file...

1461. This is defininitely not a foolie, so no need to check the date here ... but certainly there's something poetic about debuting it on this day, but our favorite celeb chef is back with THE reality television show SunDial Earth Station's crew will deign to watch ... You bet. It's Hell's Kitchen, new for 2008. Chef Ramsay is getting set to go on a tear again and it's soooooo much fun to watch. This time, Chef Ramsay's opening a branch of his world-renowned Restaurant Gordon Ramsay, Gordon Ramsay at the London West Hollywood in beautiful LA. Yawp ... workin' for The Man himself. Opportunities and Distractions
2008-01-30 04:58:00
At the last Advantage Conferences Mindset Mentoring Conference, a man named Kevin Weaver was one of the speakers. While he was talking with us, a comment he made has really stuck with me. He said that one of his mentors explained to him "You need to learn the difference between Opportunity, and Distraction". Kevin realized that he had been spending too much time doing "good" things, instead of doing the "best" things for him. Let me explain. In my life I have found that it is very easy to say yes. If someone asks me to be involved in a project, or ministry, or business venture I want to say "yes". These are all "good" things, even Godly things. But good opportunities can become not-so-good distractions very easily. As Bilbo Baggins in the “Lord of the Rings” says, you “feel like butter spread across too much bread”.As followers of Christ, God has given us a purpose for being on this earth. Our first priority is to love the Lord our God with all your heart, soul, and mind,...

Distractions of setting world record, Sydney fallout led to Perth loss: Buc
2008-01-21 10:56:00
The distractions created by the world record pursuit of winning 17 Tests in a row and the fallout from the acrimonious Sydney Test that witnessed India’s threat to pull out of the series following the three-match ban on Harbhajan Singh, resulted in the Australian team losing the edge and finally losing the Perth Test by 72 runs, said former Aussie coach John Buchanan. The Perth loss reminded Buchanan of Aussies’ defeat in Calcutta in 2001, which had also deprived Australia of its 17th consecutive victory. "It took me back to Calcutta, when after India's first innings we were expected to win. In that situation sometimes the way forward is not as clear as it should be," The Age quoted Buchanan as saying. He added: "Having been involved when there are records on, and with all the distractions occurring between the second and third Tests, that's all part of it. It (the record) is what everybody expected. People were talking up the wicket, that it was like...

Online distractions
2007-12-09 04:41:00
I'm know I'm a big pusher of click sites, but sometimes, you just gotta let lose and have some fun on the net. There are a few things I do. Visiting forums is perhaps my favourite.I also enjoy playing the games on Prizee. And in fact, it has turned into an evening ritual with my oldest son. He sits on my lap and we talk about the animals, etc. Plus, I get to win bonus stuff for the points I collect.Another thing I discovered while doing one of the boosters for Moola was a onlinebackgammon site (I also got paid $20). I had never played backgammon before, but I quickly learned the ropes and enjoyed my time on the site. All the players were super friendly. There is a few of backgammon sites, but my favourite site to play backgammon is www.gammon-world.com. I find it has a better layout and is easy to use. Also, I've played in a few of their backgammon tournaments and enjoyed myself.

Ignore distractions
2007-08-01 13:36:00
Positive thinking is a skill you can nurture inside yourself.  This requires that you don't permit negative feelings to control your mind.  People you meet may seem behave in ways that aim to provoke you.  How do you react? Do you typically find yourself on the defensive or, do you brush off negative comments, stunts and vibes, because you see beyond the test to what you gain? Many people recall when others have "rubbed them the wrong way," swindled them or, done something which evoked hard feelings. How do you choose to see these kinds of situations?  You can see them as a challenge or, as a means for you to reframe what you might of thought was initially important.  Positive thinking is all about learning to reframe events and see the benefits.Make a point of reflecting back on at least two situations which have distracted you from your desired focus or peace of mind.  Consider your initial impres...
