Dividends in tech-land: A trio of turnarounds
2008-07-02 05:00:00 "As the tech industry has matured, some tech companies are devoting some of their cash flow to dividends," says George Putnam (http://www.thestockadvisors.co-m/ccount/click.php?id=2152), adding, "This helps reduce downside volatility and offers some positive return when the stock prices lag."In his industry-leading The Turnaround Letter (http://www.thestockadvisors.co-m/ccount/click.php?id=2152), the advisor highlights some dividend-paying tech stocks; here's a look at three of those picks."Many tech stocks have underperformed for the last couple of years as capital spending on technology products has been weak. The sector will eventually rebound, but the timing is far from certain. "A conservative way to play the industry is to focus on technology stocks that pay dividends. Lower-income Singapore families got more in Growth Dividends
2008-05-28 01:04:00 Lower-income Singapore families got more in Growth Dividends LOWER-INCOME households received the lion’s share of the $407 million in Growth Dividends paid out last month, Finance Minister Tharman Shanmugaratnam said in a written reply yesterday. He was responding to a question from Nominated MP Siew Kum Hong, who wanted a breakdown of how much families with different incomes had received in dividends. Mr Tharman said that the wealthier a family, the smaller the amount of dividends its members received. For example, family members in households whose incomes placed them in the 11th to 20th percentile received an average of $140 in Growth Dividends. By contrast, a family member in the top 10 per cent of households by income received an average of $80 in dividends. IQ Trends: Dividends don't lie
2008-05-12 07:00:00 "Trying to out-guess the markets is little more than speculation," says Kelley Wright (http://www.thestockadvisors.co-m/ccount/click.php?id=2003) whose IQ Trends (http://www.thestockadvisors.co-m/ccount/click.php?id=2003) uses dividends as a guide to a stock's value. Here's some "dividend" boosters."In our view, the only thing the enlightened investor can depend on is the irrefutable fact of the cash dividend that is consistently paid by the highest quality companies. "As we've long stated, a rising dividend trend offers uncontestable proof that a company is, in fact, making profitable progress. Much more so than earnings, dividend yield trends can show whether a stock’s price is likely to appreciate. "When a dividend is increased the price of a stock, at some point, must rise to reflect the increased value of the investment. There is no more accurate indication of fiscal achievement in a publicly traded company than a trend of rising dividends. "Dividends are real m...

5 points in choosing Blue Chip Stock with good dividends to beat inflation
2008-04-28 01:24:00 Yesterday I was reading the Invest page on the investing stocks with good dividends to beat inflation, the column raised on fundmental analysis, which I extracted and place in here. This is part of the 5 pointers which I see. There are more pointers (One of the book I read on Philip Fisher’s theory on investing speaks about these points and more): 1. Does the company have the necessary know-how that is institutionalised throughout the organisation? 2. Does it have a strong competitive advantage? 3. Does it have good cash flow? 4. Is it conservative in its accounting? 5. Is it generous with dividends? A stock that answers yes to all five questions is considered a blue chip. Extracted from Sunday Straits Times 27th April 2008
