Vick receives 23-month sentence on dogfighting charges
2007-12-12 01:03:00 Richmond, Virgina judge Henry Hudson sentenced embattled Atlanta Falcons quarterbackMichael Vick to nearly two full years in prison Monday morning. Since the disgraced star has already spent three months behind bars, it is probable to assume that with good behavior the sentence will be reduced to 19 months. Either way, it will have been three years without playing professional football and the likelihood of Vick acclimating himself back into the league is very minimal.

Into the pit: The terrifying trend of dogfighting
2007-11-20 05:04:00 By Gary Cohen Medill Reports - Chicago From birth fighting dogs are trained to do only one thing - attack and kill other animals. The American pit bull terrier, a strong, determined breed with a high prey drive, has become the animal of choice for dogfighters in recent years. Pit bulls are bred by dogfighters for aggression the same way racehorses are bred for speed, said Serrano. Only animals with unusual levels of hostility and consistent success in the ring are being bred. The practice is creating a race of pit bulls with elevated aggression levels toward other animals. read more

Michael Vick Pleads Guilty to Federal Dogfighting Charges
2007-08-27 21:39:00 He may be admitting to being remorseful now, but if he wasn't caught by the system, I don't doubt that he would have stopped his repulsive behavior. If I were the judge, I would sentence Michael Vick to five years behind prison bars and furthermore, I wouldn't recommend that he be paroled while he serves. Once he IS released I would have him volunteer for another five years at the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals. Sound harsh? I don't think so - not when you consider what he put those poor, innocent dogs through by his heartless decisions. READ ABOUT THIS HEREPractice non-violence in your lives. NFL’s Vick says guilty in dogfighting case
2007-08-27 05:41:00 Atlanta Quarterback, Michael Vick, when questioned, admitted to being involved with Dog Fighting Operations and was suspended until further notice. Of course like any famous famous sport figure, he made a deal to do 12-18 months in the slammer. He also will immediately be without pay as the NFL suspension applies. Vick claimed not to place bets himelf, but he financed the dog fighting operation. Vick had bought property in Virginia to become the training center, where the dogs were trained to fight to the death. The dogs who were considered under performers were killed by various methods, such as drowning, hanging, electrocuting and more. Vick and his partner certainly picked an appropriate name for the kennel, which is known as “Bad Newz Kennel”. Dog Fighting involves the use of dogs bred to fight, and two of them are put in a pit to attack each other for spectators’ entertainment, and gambling. The dogs are expected to fight to the death best online spo...
DMX Next Big Name Linked To Dogfighting
2007-08-26 01:30:00 KPNX in Arizona reports that rapper DMX’s home in Maricopa County, Arizona was raided yesterday by the Sheriff’s Department and 12 distressed pitbulls were removed. DMX was not at home at the time. A large cache of weapons was found in the home as well. DMX’s criminal history includes a 2002 guilty plea to animal cruelty charges. Murray Richman, DMX’s attorney, said the incident was all the cause of the Arizona heat - someone reported that the dogs were at risk because of the extreme temperatures. He told TMZ, “Earl [Simmons, a.k.a DMX] has a caretaker, who obviously wasn’t taking care. Earl loves those dogs.” Richman added that DMX isn’t even in Az and hasn’t been there for several months because he’s off working on a project. So there were no reports of dogfighting, but 12 pitbulls in distress? Smells a little fishy to me. Source: “Dogs Rescued from DMX’s House” [TMZ]; Photo: Amazon Share This

Marbury: 'Dogfighting is a sport'
2007-08-23 13:26:00 Memo to Stephon Marbury: Stick to selling sneakers.During an appearance in Albany, New York Wednesday to promote his popular and inexpensive 'Starbury' sneakers -- which are a great thing -- Marbury did something that wasn't so great. He defended Michael Vick, who has said through his attorneys that he will plead guilty to charges stemming from a federal dogfighting investigation."I think it's tough," Marbury said, according to Albany TV station Capital News 9. "I think, you know, we don't say anything about people who shoot deer or shoot other animals. You know, from what I hear, dogfighting is a sport. It's just behind closed doors."Say what? A sport? I'm sure the folks at PETA, the animal rights organization, just loved to hear that statement.Oh, and I'm sure PETA would agree with Marbury's characterization of Vick as a "good human being."Of course, it's not the first time this off-season that the New York Knicks point guard has said some strange things. It's just done behind closed doors."People like that make me sick,if you couldn't tell from the exorbitant amount of sarcasm in my post.If you breed dogs for dogfighting you make me sick.If you stick up for Michael Vick, you make me sick.If you contribute in anyway to the "sport" of dogfighting, you make me want to kick you.Oh..and you make me sick.Do a search of dogfighting photosand tell me what a "sport" it is.Last time I checked, you...

2007-08-05 19:55:00 LONG POND, Pa. - Ryan Newman and Greg Biffle have a keen interest in the federal case against Atlanta Falcons quarterback Mike Vick. Both are heavily involved in animal rescue operations, and they said dog-fighting charges against Vick will bring much-needed attention to their cause.Newman, along with his wife Krissie, had t-shirts made this week that read: "7 to life" on the front and "Neuter Vick" on the back. Krissie Newman said he will wear the t-shirt throughout his trial."Everybody is innocent until proven guilty," Ryan Newman said. "But his little group has made it clear they fight dogs. People who defend that are slugs. This separates the smart people from the dumb."Krissie Newman joined other wives of Dodge drivers Saturday working at local restaurant. Their salaries and tips were donated to local Humane Society."If nothing else, everyone knows about dog fighting now," Krissie Newman said. Vick, Kobe, dogfighting and rape.
2007-08-04 10:39:00 This story is really incredible. Sportscaster Paul Zeise said: ?It?s really a sad day in this country when somehow?Michael Vick would have been better off raping a woman if you look at the outcry of what happened. Had he done that, he probably would have been suspended for four games and he?d be back on the field.? Now, since you're capable of clicking a mouse, I'm assuming you're smart enough to figure out that the guy was saying that rape is worse than dog-fighting and yet, in our crazy world, the guy who's accused of rape, like Kobe, gets a lighter punishment than the guy who raises dogs to fight, like Vick. The incredible thing is that the sportscaster apologized and the paper issued this statement: Zeise's ?insensitive and offensive? remarks ?do not represent the view of the Post-Gazette.? Insensitive to whom? Dogs?

Dogfighting: What is Dog Fighting - History of Dog Fights - Not the Fault o
2007-07-27 08:55:00 News coverage about dogfighting with that I wanted to learn more about it along with the history behind it. Dogfights have been well known it has existed for centuries since the first recorded history domestication of the dog species of wild wolf becoming a domestic dog. Considered a sport with two dogs are trained by owners to be aggressive are put into a ring or dog pit together so the dogs can fight with each other. Most of the time a dog or both dogs die from the battle with very painful along with extreme outcome for the dogs injured with bloody bites and tearing fleshy tissue off each other. Dogfights are considered entertainment but most of the time it is done for the point of gambling for money much cash is being made in this awful sport. The most popular breed used for fighting is the American Pit Bull Terrier dog. Pit Bulls are blamed so much for this but it is not the fault of the dog or the breed. However, it is the fault of people who bred them for centuries trained the...

Dogfighting and Christian Morality
2007-07-25 12:32:00 Debunking Christianity asks whether Christians find Michael Vick's dogfighting morally reprehensible. The assumption is that Christians will say "of course," opening the door to some version of the problem of evil. However difficult it may be to consider that this assumption might be wrong, there is some evidence that it may be exactly that.As reported on ChristianNewswire, Dr. Alveda King, niece of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. and Pastoral Associate of Priests for Life, views animal cruelty as little more than an opportunity to oppose a woman's right to a certain medical procedure. Evidently, Dr. King believes that the real significance of the Vick case is that it highlights "the disparity in societal protections for animals and unborn humans.""The appalling cruelty to dogs described in the complaint against Michael Vick immediately reminds me of another kind of cruelty that is not only not punished, but is protected by our authorities," said Dr. King. "I'm talking about the inc...

Michael Vick Falsely Accused of Dogfighting
2007-07-19 22:57:00 Predator Press We here at Predator Press rarely take part in "Investigative Reporting"; investigations tend to be lengthy and boring, and the reporting doubly so.But when we found out that NFL star Michael Vick was under fire for alleged dogfighting, we were really intrigued. But a preliminary examination of Micheal Vick's lavish pad produced exactly zero airplanes. None. Zip. Hear that CNN? The fact is, Michael Vick doesn't possess a current pilot's license, nor has he ever. And aside from 2 rather incriminating Red Baron frozen pepperoni pizzas and a conspicuously inordinate amount of bottled water and lava lamps, we uncovered absolutely nothing during the search to support these slanderous allegations. How can a man with no plane or pilot's license possibly engage in mortal air-to-air combat? Hm?
