Domaine Ricard: Growing in the Touraine
2008-01-30 18:05:00 Vincent Ricard farms seventeen hectares of vineyards in the Touraine, located outside the village of Thésée la Romaine, near the banks of the river Cher and not far from Chenonceau, in the heart of central Loire Valley château country.Vincent Ricard, circa 2005 (photo: B. Celce)When first I met Vincent in February of 2004, he was a young man of 27 years, just beginning to get his feet wet yet already taking a strong stance in the Touraine wine scene. Actually, given his relative youth, his experience was fairly extensive. He returned to his family's property in 1998 after a two-year internship with Philippe Alliet in Chinon and a short stage with François Chidaine in Montlouis. It took him only a year from that point, with help from his father, to declare and incorporate Domaine Ricard. Like so many other young vignerons before him, Vincent was the first in his family to make the move to winemaking following many generations of family farming. Prior to 1999, the fruit grow...

Domaine Castet 2005

2007-10-20 18:43:00 Sotheby's London has sold a 12-bottle case of 1967 Domaine de la Romanée-Conti for £58,650 ($119,259), making it the most expensive case of wine ever sold in their saleroom according to Decanter magazine. The case had a high estimate of £22,000 and was sold to an American private collector. Domaine de la Romanée-Conti (DRC) is an estate in Burgundy, France that produces white and red wine. It was established in 1232. Its flagship wine is produced from the Romanée-Conti vineyard. Describing the vineyard, eminent wine critic, Clive Coates says, The scarcest, most expensive - and frequently the best - wine in the world ... If you can lay your hands on a case - and that is a big 'if' - you would have to pay £5,000 or more for a young vintage, double or treble for a wine in its prime. ... This is the purest, most aristocratic and most intense example of Pinot Noir you could possibly imagine. Not only nectar: a yardstick with which to judge all other Burgundies.

Hanging around the Domaine
2007-10-18 13:35:00 *Disclaimer: I received this wine in a sample pack from Domaine547 for my review.Domine 547 that is. The wine was a 2003 Vinas del Cenit Tempranillo, Castilla y Leon, Spain. Specifically from Vino de la Tierra de Zamora. The bottle had a real cork closure and is available from Domaine 547 for $19.99. Matt tossed the bottle before I could record the alcohol content, sorry folks. It's actually made from 100% Tempranillo grapes, which might be a first for me, many have something else blended in!On the nose the wine was smoky with blackberries and black currants being the predominant fruits that showed through. The blackberry was big and jumped out of the glass. I also found spices, espresso, and bitter chocolate. The nose was very complex and once again Matt tried to steal the wine away from me! In the mouth the wine was silky. Blackberries, black cherries, anise, dark chocolate, and coffee came through in the flavor of the wine. The smokiness of the wine was very unique. It ...

IHO Domaine 547
2007-09-24 03:43:00 I noticed Domaine 547's post on Christmas/Holiday packaging for wine, and I know they were looking for ways to display multiple bottles in a gift basket minus the basket kind of way, but wanted to share this anyway. Last Christmas when I was looking for a gift bag for wine for friends at Christmas time, I came across this gem and just had to buy it.BTW, apparently, I can't figure out how to get an image to appear in comments. Can you even do that??

2004 DA RED BY DOMAINE ALFRED
2007-08-20 01:38:00 Saturday, August 18, Little Rock, AR Today's reviewed wine is from a vineyard that I'm anxious to visit in the near future. If you've read my reviews for any length of time you'll know that I gave Domaine Alfred's Pinot Gris 5 Corkscrews and liked it so much that I ordered a case at the beginning of the summer. Needless to say, it didn't last all summer but we enjoyed it while it was here. I picked up the 04 DA Red from their vineyard on my last trip to the store. I paid around $11.99/bottle and was anxious to see how it stacked up to the Pinot Gris as I've noticed that just because a vineyard does a good job with whites doesn't mean they'll be equally good with reds. Let me tell you, Domaine Alfred does well with both. After pouring this I picked up aromas of all kinds of berries. Strawberry, cherry, plum and just a little blackberry. On the tongue lots of fruit of the aforementioned berry and a nice side of oak. Excellent finish made this a very enjoyable bottle. Came clo...

Domaine de la Janasse 2006 Cotes du Rhone Blanc
2007-08-10 21:39:00 The nose is rich with mushrooms and spice, though there’s a certain dried apricot perfume there from the viognier, too. You can definitely smell the oak here, which was lavished on this wine but doesn’t overpower it. On the palate, this white is every bit as deep and nuanced as the nose implies, with a ...

Domaine Terres de Solence 2003
2007-07-19 03:17:00 The word ?Côtes? crops up in the names of a number of French wine regions, and with good reason: it means ?slopes? and slopes make for good drainage and sun exposure ? both big plusses for wine grapes. For Domaine Terres de Solence, those good conditions mean they can forego pesticides and other chemicals ...

Domaine de Mavette Cotes du Rhone 2003

Domaine Jean Reverdy 2005 Sancerre La Reine Blanche
2007-04-15 21:08:00 Domaine Jean Reverdy has 30 acres of vineyards, 9 acres of them being Sauvigonon Blanc. The 2005 Sancerre Le Reine Blanche is made from 100% Sauvignon Blanc from a single vineyard, the vines being 25 years or older. It has not seen oak and has not gone through malolactic fermantation.Pale straw in the glass. Citrus, green apple, floral note and a hint of grass on the nose. Citrus, apple and minerals play beautifully with the fresh acidity on the palate. This is a great little bottle of Sancerre. Not to much green vegetables and grass like you can find in some of them. Just a light, slightly fruity wine with great freshness from the lively, not at all tart, acidity.I bought this at my local grocery store for $18.99. A fair price. Find it at Wine-Searcher.com or WineZap.com from $16.99.Vote for my blog here and help me reach top 10 on The Blog TopI am now in top 13!
