Don Imus - Give Mr. Imus A Break On PacMan Jones
2008-06-24 00:22:00
Ok. I like you totally rolled my eye and called my Mom with the latest news of radio personality Don Imus' latest racial slur. You know after the whole event with the Rutgers Women's Basketball Team and Don Imus referring to them as "Nappy Headed" Whatevers, then losing his job after a dramatic meeting with the classy members of that team, then returning, America was just waiting for Imus to explode with something.Today we got it. Sort of. This is the text of what Imus said from AOL Sports:When one of Imus's on-air partners, Warner Wolf, discussed Dallas Cowboys cornerback Adam Jones' legal troubles, Imus asked, "What color is he." When told that Jones is African-American, Imus said, "Well, there you go. Now we know."The full transcript is below.Wolf: "Defensive back Adam 'Pacman' Jones, recently signed by the Cowboys. Here's a guy suspended all of 2007 following a shooting in a Vegas night club."Imus: "Well, stuff happens. You're in a night club, for God's sake. What d...
Don Imus once again brings race to airwaves
2008-06-23 19:32:00
NEW YORK (AP) - Don Imus has once again injected race into his radio show. During an on-air conversation Monday about the arrests of suspended Dallas Cowboys cornerback Adam ?Pacman? Jones, Imus asked, ?What color is he?” Told by sports announcer Warner Wolf that Jones is ?African-American,? Imus responded: ?There you go. Now we know.? Civil rights ...
Al Sharpton's Extortion Plot
2008-05-21 17:30:00
Corrupt hypocritical thug Al Sharpton and Jesse Jackson operate from the same blackmail playbook: they threaten to wreak havoc if corporations and other fearful rich don't pony up dough to line their pockets. To wit: "A longtime confidant of rapper Dr. Dre claims the Rev. Al Sharpton threatened to march on the hip-hop icon's recording studio unless he donated a half-million dollars to charity." NYP Hiphopdx.comSharpton denies he said "If you don't have $500,000, we marching." Sniffs Sharpton: "absurd."

Anatomically correct silicone doll Dolly Parton is pissed at Howard Stern. "I have never been so shocked, hurt and humiliated in all my life. I cannot believe what Howard Stern has done to me. In a blue million years, I would never have such vulgar things come out of my mouth. They have done editing or some sort of trickery to make this horrible, horrible thing." David Hinckley NYDN I divine an Al Sharpton anti-Stern protest demanding the foul jock's head... Stern has crossed the line big time. What Stern did was put together a string of unrelated words from her audio book... The tamest: "When I was a teenager I raped Minnie Pearl's dead body." And Don Imus got done in by "nappy-headed hos?"

Al Sharpton: Pimp My Ride
2008-04-29 13:46:00
Revenge is a dish best eaten cold. Don Ho's new ratings usurp his old WFAN ratings. David Hinckley NYDNDon's nemesis, the good Reverend Al, got his luxury ride hauled away for non-payment of nearly a grand in tickets. NYP: Dude, where's my car? The Rev. Al Sharpton may have felt something like the stoners in the film of that title when he emerged from a meeting in Queens yesterday with Rep. John Conyers (D-Mich.) - and found his 2007 Jaguar missing. Cramer vs. Cramer
2008-03-17 12:47:00
The Eliot Spitzer scandal had people buzzing last week about CNBC host Jim Cramer, his buddy from Harvard Law School. Sources told us the multimedia "Mad Money" host had at one point become thisclose to his equally vociferous producer, Susan Krakower. CNBC top spokesman Brian Steel said, "We don't comment on the personal lives of our employees." But gossip-mongers should know Krakower is single, and Cramer separated from his wife 2½ years ago, which he announced on "Imus" saying, "I'm now dating." Rush & Molloy NYDN Krakower (above): "My job at CNBC is to bring up the volume." TV Newser What else is she bringing up? Under Jim's anchor desk - suddenly Susan. Cramer vs. Himself. The Redemption Of Don Imus Part II

"Don Ho" Imus gets a Washington, DC radio station. No surprise. Citadel's WJZW 105.9. Formerly smooth jazz. Imus starts airing tomorrow morning. Tom Taylor's Radio Info No wonder Citadel fired high-paid guys like John Gambling. Imus is costing big bucks.
Don Imus returns to D.C. radio via WJZW 105.9
2008-03-04 23:20:00
Don Imus will finally return this week to the Washington, D.C. airwaves via WJZW / 105.9. The Citadel-owned station switched last Friday from a smooth jazz format to "True Oldies," laying off its entire on-air staff in the process. It had been thought that Imus would comeback on his former local affiliate, Clear Channel-owned WTNT / 570. After months of rumors though, no deal was ever reached. With the embattled Citadel Broadcasting also serving as the syndicator of the Imus show via ABC Radio Networks, the company apparently decided to just keep the program in-house. "Imus in the Morning" relaunches locally on Thursday, March 6. The full press release is available via DCRTV.----My quick reaction is a simple one: While Imus retains an extensive following among politicians, Citadel's belief that he retains enough of a mainstream fanbase to justify an FM outlet defies credibility.Citadel seems to be programming its stations to justify its extensive investment in Don Imus, not to serv...

Clinton/Shuster brouhaha: beyond political correctness
2008-02-09 00:15:00
The Clinton camp, Emily’s List and seemingly all of Left Blogistan are up in arms about an offhand comment MSNBC’s David Shuster made in discussing Chelsea Clinton’s role in her mother’s campaign. The furor led, this afternoon, to Shuster’s suspension by the network. Here’s the clip in question: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-o2St8qoXx1g So let me see if I can parse what’s really going in this case, and I’ll begin by saying that I have no relevant opinion on Shuster beyond this instance. I don’t watch him and for better or worse he’s not part of my media or news landscape. Let’s start here: what do we really believe Shuster said? Do we think he is suggesting that the Clintons are literally whoring their daughter out? That seems unlikely, right? Do we believe this is what he actually thinks? Do we think this is what he intended to communicate? Or do we understand him to mean there’s something not entirely kosh...

DON IMUS BLASTS WAYANS AND HUGHLEY FOR AGREEING WITH HIM...
2007-12-04 15:06:00
Don Imus made his big return to radio on Monday with two African Americans added to his cast of morning show regulars and a promise to stay edgy without resorting to racist and sexist comments.Joining regular sidekicks Rob Bartlett and Charles McCord are African American comedians Karith Foster and Tony Powell. Foster was described in the New York Post as "a black Texas Jew with New York roots and an Oxford education."Imus also spoke out against black comedians Damon Wayans and D.L. Hughley, who have each joked publicly that the radio host's offensive comments were accurate."None of us should say it. They should talk to those women atRutgers if they want to know how they feel about it," Imus said. "It wasdemonstrated to these young women that there are consequences to what you say." source
Don Imus Back on Radio: Media Got it Wrong
2007-12-04 04:32:00
Don Imus is back on radio. Tonight on CBS network nightly news with Katie Couric, the Imus clip was terrific. He said he would not do anything to make the women of the Rutgers team question the sincerity of his earlier apology. Then… in case people who love him feared he’d lost his brand of humor… he said that Dick Cheney is still a war criminal and Hillary Clinton is still the devil… and that he’d signed a five year contract, because it was going to take that long to get back at everyone. He was in fine fettle. Then CBS nightly news drove straight into the offal pile by running a LOUD voice-over of Imus calling the Rutgers players “Nappy headed ho’s.” Remember it was McGuirk who’d led that charge with Imus sleepwalking into it… see earlier article here… FOUL! CBS news. You ought to be fined for running that voice-over. FOUL! You’re supposed to have at least room temperature I.Q.s over there. Imus JUST SAI...

Separated At Birth: Don Imus & King Tut
2007-11-09 15:58:00
The cadaverous Don Imus dodges the dead bodies of other radio talent beached to make way for his WABC gig. Ironically some of those guys backed Imus back in the day when he was getting hammered. So Imus is back in the saddle December 3rd and it'll be like nothing happened as media and political elite kiss his ring like before. TV Barn's Aaron Barnhart asked Tim Russert on tape if he'd go back on Imus. "If asked, absolutely." The caveat: He's got to get a note from NBC brass above his pay grade. There's a clog in Clear Channel's $1.2 bil deal to flush radio stations. WSJThe Spy Guys are back together again! Don Imus returns to the radio
2007-11-02 14:04:00
Like it or not, Don Imus has signed up with new ABC Radio owner Citadel to review his radio show on new flagship station WABC. There is no Washington, D.C. affiliate signed up yet though the New York Post points to other Citadel-owned stations as likely to carry the program. In D.C.'s case, an Imus in-house affiliation would mean WMAL/630 which would dislodge Fred Grandy and Andy Parks in the process. Former Imus affiliate WTNT/570 would seem another obvious possibility as well as WMET/1160 which recently announced the hiatus of The Greaseman.----My own first feeling about this situation is ambivalence. Imus earned his firing last time but he never figured to be off the radio forever. What bothers me is that Imus' new management seems to have no inclination at all to maintain a basic level of courtesy for its hires, having already brought back racial rabble-rouser Bob Grant to New York's airwaves in the past. Imus should have been taught a greater sense of responsibility by what h...

Don Imus: Mother Of Reinvention
2007-10-18 15:46:00
It's okay for comedian Chris Rock to engage in racist "satire" but not okay for Don Imus. I don't like Don Imus. I think he's a cranky, deplorable, obnoxious, egomaniacal, one-dimensional dry drunk. But I detest the hypocrisy and chest-beating by these righteous media whores like Al Sharpton and Jesse Jackson. Sharpton's using the malleable National Association For Black Journalists to coerce Citadel into giving him a voice in Imus contract negotiations. Fatuous, my friends. Citadel ain't biting. NABJ trotted out Eric Deggans, St. Petersburg (FL) Times Tee Vee critic to toss the hot potato on Hannity & Colmes a couple of days ago. Deggans emerged desperately desiring to jump in the shower. Unsurprisingly, Don Imus gets a fat check for millions and is heading back
2007-08-15 10:22:00
Clearly it’s no giant issue for a radio host to be calling anyone (or everyone) pretty much whatever they want. In a completely bullshit move, CBS settled with Don Imus today for millions, and he’s returning to radio. From Variety: Radio host Don Imus has reached a multimillion-dollar settlement with CBS and is in talks to return to radio, possibly at New York’s WABC-AM, which airs conservative talkers Sean Hannity and Rush Limbaugh. Settlement averts a threatened $120 million lawsuit and sets the stage for the resumption of Imus’ broadcasting career, derailed in April when he referred to the Rutgers U. women’s basketball team as “nappy-headed hos.” CBS dismissed Imus in the wake of the comments and amid a broad advertiser revolt against the show, which aired on CBS’ WFAN-FM and was simulcast on MSNBC as “Imus in the Morning.” Terms were not disclosed, but sources characterized the settlement as a fraction of Imus’ ...
