2008-05-16 09:18:00 Cool Canadian rock outfit Arcade Fire are recording the soundtrack for a new Cameron Diaz film by Donnie Darko writer and director Richard Kelly. It’s the first film soundtrack they’ve ever written and they’re working with producer Richard Dravs, who’s just finished mixing Coldplay’s new album Viva La Vida. Called Box, the film is a creepy thriller based on a 1970 Richard Matheson short story and Twilight Zone episode about a couple who find a box with a magic button. Every time they push the button, they receive a million dollars – but someone, somewhere, dies. AdvertisementAlso featuring Enchanted star James Marsden as Cameron’s husband, the film is currently in post-production and is due out later this year. The Brit Award and Grammy-nominated five-piece Arcade Fire, who often play with a full orchestra, have released two studio albums to date, Funeral and last year’s Neon Bible, which hit number two in the UK charts.

This semi-autobiographical tale of Jon Favreau’s repeated attempts to get over his ex-girlfriend is equally hilarious and heartbreaking. Vince Vaughn and Ron Livingston are unbelievably real and present as his best friends. This flick oozes cool, and it’s showing at the Aero on Saturday. It’s the second feature on a double bill with MADE (the unofficial sequel to SWINGERS), which begins at 7:30. Tickets are $10. This flick is more enjoyable while drunk. DONNIE DARKO: THE DIRECTOR’S CUT - An interesting take on high school time travel, DARKO is a massive headtrip involving time displacement, a talking bunny, and a massive airline disaster. Worth it for the mindjazz, the director’s cut features twenty additional minutes of footage and a revamped soundtrack. DARKO plays at the Rialto, Saturday at midnight. This flick is more enjoyable while high.
