Claims made that radio disc jockey The Greaseman (a.k.a. Doug Tracht) is dead appear to now be false, the result of a deliberate hoax perpetuated by his current employer, DC101 (WWDC/101.1) radio. Speculation about The Greaseman's demise started with the posting of a YouTube remembrance tribute video with the text "Doug 'The Greaseman' Tracht, 1950-2008." An on-air announcement about Greaseman's "death" was made Tuesday evening over DC101 during the 5 p.m. hour followed by the playing of songs that Greaseman would have supposedly wanted.Since that point though, absolutely no media outlets have confirmed Doug Tracht's alleged demise. An e-mailer posted to the DCRTV metamedia site found no evidence of unusual activity around Tracht's house. According to Nick Cafardo of the Boston Globe, the Red Sox have released Doug Mirabelli. Mirabelli had been set to catch Bartolo Colon today but had been replaced by Dusty Brown on Terry Francona’s lineup card. Who knows whether the Sox will stick with Kevin Cash as their backup/Tim Wakefield catcher, but for now he appears to be the man. The Sox haven’t yet announced it, but they’ve released veteran Doug Mirabelli. The veteran, who has been with the Sox since 2001, was scratched in favor of Dusty Brown for today’s game. Cash has been effective in catching Wakefield and the team must have figured the younger Cash, who have scrapped for playing time in Pawtucket, would be a suitable replacement considering both catchers hit about the same.
