Cubs' early 2012 draft preview
2012-01-20 13:42:00 The draft is in June and the amateur baseball season hasn’t started yet, but we have a pretty good idea of the kinds of names that may be available for the Cubs with the #6 pick. It’ll be interesting to see what direction the Cubs will go in the first round. Sr. Scouting VP Jason... Read more »

Colts Should Keep Peyton Manning, Get Robert Griffin III In 2012 NFL Draft
2012-01-04 00:04:00 The Indianapolis Colts have been plugged in as the automatic next stop for Stanford Quarterback Andrew Luck. But that’s OK only if Baylor Quarterback Robert Griffin III elects to remain not in the 2012 NFL Draft. If Robert Griffin III, or RG3, comes out for the 2012 NFL Draft, he, not Luck, should be the (Read More...)

2011-12-08 21:38:00 The Houston Astros have made pitcher Rhiner Cruz the top pick in baseball’s Rule 5 draft. The draft of players left off the 40-man rosters of major league teams was held Thursday at the winter meetings. The right-handed Cruz was a combined 5-3 with seven saves in Class A and Double-A for the New York ...

Red Sox Lose One Player, Gain One in 2011 MLB Rule 5 Draft
2011-12-08 16:32:00 As the 2011 Baseball Winter Meetings come to a conclusion today in Dallas, the last piece of business there the Boston Red Sox had to deal with was the MLB Rule 5 Draft. If you aren't familiar with the Rule 5 process, a team pays $50,000 for taking a player and that particular player must stay on the 25-man roster for the entire season. If he doesn't stay on the roster for the whole season, he must be offered back to his original club at $25,000. The player the Red Sox lost was Cesar Cabral, who was taken last year in the Rule 5 draft by the Tampa Bay Rays, to the Kansas City Royals. The Royals then traded him to the New York Yankees for cash considerations. The Red Sox did select Marwin Gonzalez from the Chicago Cubs with their pick in the MLB portion of the draft. That selection makes you wonder if he's part of the compensation package that the Red Sox will eventually receive from the Cubs for Theo Epstein. After being returned by the Rays, Cabral spent the 2011 season wit...

Draft pick compensation reduced for 11 (AP)
2011-11-23 02:11:00 As part of baseball’s new labor agreement, 11 free agents had their draft-pick compensation reduced or eliminated in an effort to increase interest among teams in the marketplace. According to the 1981 statistical formula that is being eliminated, 21 players originally were classified as Type A free agents, which means they would cost a club ...

Telecom Policy 2011 Draft Announced; No Roaming Charges, Broadband Limit Do
2011-10-11 10:59:00 Yesterday, Kapil Sibal, Minister for Telecommunications and IT released the draft of the National Telecommunications Policy – 2011. In it are some lofty aims. For instance, by 2020, 100% tele-density is aimed at. Also, by 2015, they aim to provide ‘affordable and reliable broadband’ by 2015. In the new Telecom Policy, the One Nation, One License Policy was brought up. By this, there will be no difference between Local and STD Calls. This also means that there will be no roaming charges while in India. Also, they admitted that MNP is currently not complete, as people cannot keep their number while moving to a different Circle. This too is aimed to be allowed. Mr. Kapil Sibal said, “We will seek TRAI recommendations on license framework under the new Telecom Policy 2011. State operators BSNL and MTNL will continue to play important role in penetration. Mission is to have special coverage of remote and rural areas. The New spectrum act will look into spectrum prici...

Social Media Draft For Government Organizations To Be Completed By The End
2011-09-29 09:17:00 The Department of IT (DIT) has been busy with the task of preparing a social media strategy for all Government organizations. This project has been brewing for quite some time. Vineeta Dixit, Ministry of Communications and IT, has affirmed that the policy will be ready by the end of 2011. Since Indian Administrative services and organizations are huge in terms of their reach and capacity, implementation of the policy will be a challenge. Currently, the DIT is busy aggregating feedback and holding meetings with people from all branches of Government including Ministries, State departments, Citizens, Legal experts, developers and so on. This is an important step as ‘Openness’ is a key aspect of Social Media. Dixit elaborates further on the uses of Social Media for Government organization, “Social Media can be leveraged by the government for various purposes including seeking feedback from citizens on policies—whether existing or proposed—re-pronouncement of public policy,...

79. Muses are overrated, Suzannas are underrated: Make a bad First Draft

Take the kind of students for example. In my puny little brain, I imagined that there would be the most brilliant students there from all over the country and perhaps the world. I imagined them having encyclopedic knowledge and that they could recite Baudelaire or expound on Foucault?s philosophical theories on demand. And, indeed there were quite a few geniuses, and I am not exaggerating. They were some super smart people who seemed like they were hyper intelligent aliens from another planet, but they were the exceptions not the rule. Most of the stu...

2011 draft review
2011-06-26 13:00:00 Well Bulls Fans, it was great covering another draft with you guys. It looks like the Gar actually went with the some of the best players available and not by needs. Even though I did not do a write-up on either player, I really liked both picks and think both have a chance to contribute for our team eventually. I am a tad torn on passing up a player such as Marshon Brooks because he provides a young shooting guard option, however, I wonder if Marshon would play in the team setting right away or if he would become a distraction and as a selfish scorer. Also, there are reports that he got ate up by Jimmy Butler in workouts....
Chicago Blackhawks Steal the Show at The Draft Two Huge Trades
2011-06-25 14:15:00 Stan Bowman And the Chicago Blackhawks came to St. Paul, MN on a mission. Yes draft a couple of young hockey players, but they also wanted to shed so cap space. Mission accomplished. The Blackhawks spent the whole day shopping around forward Troy Brouwer, and finally the Washington Capitals agreed. In exchange for Brouwer the Blackhawks received the 26th pick on the night.Defenseman Brian Campbell who had a cap hit of over $7 million had been first on Bowman's list. Campbell had been asked to waive his painful "no trade" clause all night. First for the Florida Panthers; to which he refused. The Blackhawks then stuck up a deal with the Columbus Blue Jackets, and Brian Campbell refused again. Eventually Campbell...
Bulls Draft: Smart, Not Spectacular
2011-06-25 13:00:00 In a typical NBA draft, there are about 15 or so players who will stay in the league longer than 5 years. Only a handful will become impact players. By all accounts, the 2011 draft class was an exceptionally weak one. So if you're the Bulls and you come in with the 28th, 30th and 43rd picks, you're expectations should be adjusted accordingly. The Bulls didn't find their shooting guard of the future, but then again, they didn't expect to....

Caring About the Bulls' Draft
2011-06-24 23:15:00 The Bulls' 2011 draft leaves little to be excited about. Trading up to pick Nikolo Mirotic at #23 and picking Jimmy Butler at #30 does little to improve the team in the short term, raising the point that trading for an NBA player would've been a more productive draft day.
Who had the Most Accurate NBA Mock Draft?
2011-06-24 20:50:00 One thing I always disliked about draft grades- for both sports, is that they're very inaccurate. You can't actually grade/judge them until a few years have passed. Now grading a mock draft? You can do that as soon as the draft ends. And one website, Weakside Awareness, has done just that with their "Watching the Watchers" post. Of course, they didn't rank every single mock on the web, just the most prominent ones. And here are the results. Notice who's #1!!!!!! REPRESENT!...

Jereme Richmond at Peace with Illini Experience at NBA Draft Combine
2011-06-23 19:26:00 Jereme Richmond, the first McDonald's All-American to sign with the Fighting Illini since Dee Brown in 2002, did not have a storybook college basketball career. He's now one-and-done, but it's not the kind of typical one-and-done you may be used to. Given all that's happened to Richmond in Champaign it may surprise you to learn that his relationship with Illinois coach Bruce Weber is actually warm and fuzzy. Bruce Weber visited Richmond at the NBA combine, and the two smiled at each other. Then they shared a big hug. "He takes his job very seriously, but he takes being a great person even more seriously," Richmond said. "Coach Weber and I are going to be friends for a long...
Will Bulls Draft East Chicago Kid E'Twaun Moore?
2011-06-23 19:10:00 E'Twaun Moore grew up a Chicago Bulls fan. It's only natural since the 6-4, 191 pound three (he'll probably fit better at the two at the next level) is from East Chicago, IN. And there's a strong chance the hometown team could take the local kid. Moore worked out at the Berto Center (Bulls practice facility in Deerfield, IL) And what feedback did the Bulls give him? "Told me to be myself and try to get as strong as I can," Moore said. He said the feedback was similar to what he's heard from other franchises, but overall it varies from team to team....
Chicago Bulls 2011 NBA Draft: Exploring all the Options
2011-06-23 15:49:00 Due to a power outage in Deerfield, IL, the Chicago Bulls will move their NBA Draft headquarters and media event from the Berto Center practice facility to their home game arena the United Center. And due to a shooting/perimeter scoring outage in the Eastern Conference Finals, the Bulls had to move from the NBA postseason to their summer vacation. It's very rare that the team with the best regular season record in the NBA has three picks (two in the first round) the following June. And that means the Bulls will almost certainly not add three rookies to next year's roster meaning they have the luxury of 1.) going after an international product who might not sign 2.) take...

Bulls looking to be active on draft day
2011-06-18 15:31:00 Take it with a grain of salt, but speaking to one of my Bulls sources, I've heard the team is unlikely to exit this Thursday's draft with whomever is drafted at 28 and 30. They're investigating multiple trade scenarios (trading up, trading for Courtney Lee, or taking on salary for a higher quality player (no details there, but I would guess Iguodala, Gordon, Ellis, and Martin are the guys whom this at least sort of fits)....

Chicago Blackhawks 2011 NHL Draft Preview
2011-06-15 02:01:00 As we approach the 2011 NHL Draft in Minneapolis, there isn't a better time to look at some of the names Blackhawks fans might hear when Stan Bowman approaches the podium. But to do that, we need to look at the Hawks' organizational depth, and evaluate not only the Blackhawks areas of need, but recent drafts as well....
Charles Jenkins draft profile
2011-06-12 16:00:00 Charles Jenkins (Hofstra)6'3, SG/PG, 215 lbs.Despite hailing from a small college, Jenkins is rising as a draft prospect. Charles Jenkins put together another dominant season for Hofstra as a jack-of-all trades combo guard. At Hofstra, he was the offense with little support in terms of creation ability from others. Offensively, Charles is most effective as a decision maker off of the pick-and-roll. In fact, Charles was the best pick-and-roll player in the college game; which is crucial and should definitely transfer to the next level. ...
Kenneth Faried draft profile
2011-06-11 16:45:00 Kenneth Faried (Morehead St.)6'7, 225 lbs., PF An undiscovered, mid-major player, Kenneth Faried is strictly a Power Forward at the NBA level without much of an offensive game. However, Kenneth is the most tenacious rebounder I have seen since Danny Fortson. He's a great athlete who plays with a high motor, intensity, and has a muscular build. In many ways, his play emulates Dennis Rodman, and what team would not love to have someone that hustles, rebounds, and gets after it?...

Cubs Draft Wrap: 10 Most Intriguing Picks
2011-06-09 06:31:00 While it often seems like there's no plan on the field this season, the Cubs front office came in focused and ready for the 2011 MLB Draft. If there was a single theme to this draft, it was power, both in terms of bats and arms -- everything from 500 ft. home runs to 99 mph fastballs. The Cubs walked away with 3 of the top 50 players as ranked by Baseball America, while also adding a few sleepers in between. While there's no way you can ever predict how these players will turn out, you can come in prepared to give yourself the best shot possible. As a fan, that's all you can really ask, and at least for...

The All-Time Best Players The Cubs Have Passed On In The MLB Draft
2011-06-07 20:59:00 So, we talked about how bad the Cubs are on draft day. But how bad has it really been?Granted, many teams have missed out on their fair share of draft pick. Albert Pujols was passed by every Major League club numerous times, as he was drafted in the 13th round. For the Cubs, the law of averages should have swung in their favor at some point, however. Have a look for yourself. The following is a complete list of all the players the Cubs have passed on in just the first round of the MLB Draft since 1980.Given the talent the Cubs have under-evaluated, it's no surprise there hasn't been a World Series on the north side of town since 1945....
Synopsis of White Sox 1st 2011 Draft Selection: Keenyn Walker
2011-06-07 20:41:00 The Chicago White Sox selected switch-hitting outfielder Keenyn Walker out of Central Arizona Junior College with their first pick (47th overall) in tonight's Major League Baseball First-Year Player Draft. Yes, due to previous trades the Sox were without a first round pick in the MLB Amateur player draft- but hey JOHN DANKS WON A GAME! So it's more than wash- it's a positive this D-Day. Walker, a 20-year-old sophomore, batted .402 (86-214) with 11 doubles, eight triples, four home runs, 50 RBI, 76 runs scored and 65 stolen bases in 63 games with Central Arizona this season. The 6-foot-3, 190-pound Walker posted a .502 on-base and .584 slugging percentage and was successful on 95.6 percent (65-68) of his stolen-base...
Tyler Honeycutt Draft Profile
2011-06-07 13:15:00 Tyler Honeycutt (UCLA)(6'8 SF/SG, 190 lbs.)Tyler Honeycutt is coming out after his Sophomore Year at UCLA. He came to UCLA as a skinny player with a high skill level and while he has played well enough to tantalize scouts as a prospect, hasn't lived up to expectations. He's a streaky shooter capable of big games but didn't break out as much as expected.Offensively, Tyler gets scores largely as a streaky catch-and-shoot player. He has a great basketball IQ and shoots with great form. He plays with a smooth and slippery style, generating mid range shots off of backdoor cuts or creases in the defense. Tyler has great ball-handling for a player his size, but is unlikely creative or strong enough...
Chicago Cubs Draft SS Javier Baez
2011-06-07 05:42:00 In the first round of the 2011 MLB Draft, the Chicago Cubs selected a high school shortstop. Yeah, I know... the best player on the current Chicago Cubs is a 21-year-old shortstop. But the Cubs took one anyway. And he's an intriguing kid....
MLB Draft: Instant Pick by Pick Analysis and Grades
2011-06-07 04:21:00 It's tough to grade baseball drafts because the players are still often years away...but what the heck, let's do it anyway. An interesting trend is that teams went for talent and didn't let good players go by for signability issues, as a result some good college players slid in favor of higher upside high school players. With the economic issues some baseball teams are having I was expecting the opposite happen. This was one of the more unpredictable drafts in recent memory.1. Pirates: Gerrit Cole, RHP, UCLA. When you've got the #1 pick you can't go the safe route, you have to go for the guy who has a chance to be dominant, especially when he's an experienced college arm. Grade:... |
