Dub-Step is definitely a sound that is experiencing that flood/saturation that all good underground genres eventually experience. There's producers popping up left right and center and there's a lot of stock-standard same-old same-old stuff being put out. So, fuck that, and enter Stagga. I first heard his track 'Robotomy', and it really grabbed me. It's not thrash out bass, it's not too duby, and it's not so out there that you can't get in to it. It does have deep bass, it's got a great hook (phone-call on blast), fun samples (Futurama!) and a swingin dubstepa rythm - really a fresh sounding track. 2009-04-21 07:37:00 A little more than a week ago I had the Saturday night off and so headed down to the laundry to catch Sydney producer Harmonic 313 doing a DJ set upstairs. I've been a fan of his work for a few years now but wasn't sure what to expect live (we all know great producers can often play very lousy DJ sets). Safe to say though he tore the roof off and did it with a sound that was party, but at the same time ultra futuristic! He has recently released an album on Warp which comes highly recommended but at the very least do yourself a favor and check his website, it's a color matching game that allows you to win unreleased tracks. 2009-02-09 15:02:00 Damn, two bits of heat to post today, and two tracks that have become staple in my sets if I do something hip hop or bass. The man in behind them is Andy H.He's been a DJ for 10 years, and is quite the turntablist. He co-founded First Word Records, and is a regular at what looks like and has been revered as the hottest mid-week hip hop and drum n bass night in the UK, Tuesday Club in Sheffield. Andy's track "Kick Kick" is a fine bit of 110bpm hip hop bliss - filled with a big n dope bass line which i love finding in tracks at this speed (hands up to Danny Breaks on that tip also). 2007-11-01 14:10:00 Sorry I'm really busy with a million things this week and probably most of next week, so I don't have any regular posts like I normally have on thursday/friday. But I did just recently finished a new mix. It's Dubstep, which is what I've been listening to alot lately. For those who don't know, Dubstep is sorta the latest genre craze in the UK and beyond - that sounds cheezy but it's for good reason. It combines the sounds of Dancehall, Reggae, Dub, Industrial, Metal, Breakbeat and elements of Jungle and it's such a relatively new format that it hasn't been completely exploited by the major labels yet. So its a very 'fresh' sound; there are more and more new and young Dubstep producers popping up daily it seems - and each one brings their own special mutation to the table. It's reminiscent to me of the energy of the original Jungle scene back in 1994 when everyone was experimenting with different sounds and tempos and production styles.
