Dusty Baker?s Reds lose to Cubs 9-5 in return to Wrigley (AP)

Dusty Baker spent four years as manager of the Cubs watching the wind do silly things to a baseball at Wrigley Field. On Tuesday night, the unpredictable gusts got the best of his Cincinnati Reds. Chicago batters took advantage of wind blowing out to hit three homers and beat the Reds 9-5 in Baker’s ...

Dusty Baker returns to Wrigley Field (AP)
2008-04-16 02:36:00
Dusty Baker popped up the steps in a red Cincinnati warmup jacket and made his way across the field to a familiar dugout, the one where he spent four years managing the Chicago Cubs through good times and bad. There was a quick stop behind the batting cage for a hug from Chicago third baseman ...
Cecil Cooper is the new Dusty Baker
2008-04-05 22:56:00
Brad Ausmus is starting again in place of JR Towles today, specifically because Cooper doesn?t want to ?overwhelm? JR with having to catch Houston?s one good pitcher. This despite the fact that JR homered the day before, and is a much better hitter today than Ausmus was when he broke into the bigs 48 ...
Cinncinati Reds Manager Dusty Baker Supports Barack Obama
2007-11-22 05:47:00
As an "opener" to Barack Obama's November 14th 2007 speech in San Francisco, new Cinncinati Reds and former Chicago Cubs and San Francisco Giants manager Dusty Baker gave a great speech explaining why he supports Barack Obama for President and empasizing Senator Obama's concern for the environment as a key reason. I didn't expect Dusty to be so good without notes, but he did it; he talked well.

...is doing the same thing over and over and expecting different results. OK, so that's not exactly a definition; it's just something that Benjamin Franklin may or may not have said, and it doesn't even make that much sense. Nevertheless, the behavior of Kerry Wood and Mark Prior is starting to make me think that ol' "Poor Richard" himself may have been on to something:Whether it's simply to catch up on the past or plot for the future, new Cincinnati Reds manager Dusty Baker has been chatting with his former Cubs co-aces, Mark Prior and Kerry Wood. ''I talked to Mark Prior [Wednesday], and I've heard from Woody and some other guys,'' said Baker, who will turn his focus to managing the Reds once his current gig as an ESPN analyst ends after the World Series. Both pitchers could become free agents this offseason, and the Reds are starved for pitching.Multiple shoulder and elbow surgeries: Hundreds of thousands of dollarsMissing out on those lucrative long-term contract...
Deep Thoughts with Dusty Baker
2007-10-21 23:49:00
Dusty's return has already been a boon to BTL:Ken Griffey Jr. will become the latest of the exclusive 600 home run club to be associated with Baker."I played with Hank Aaron," Baker said. "I managed Barry (Bonds) and Sammy (Sosa). Now Junior. People ask how they compare. They're all great. Are there degrees of greatness?"Yes? Not even sure what else to say here; the answer is just too obvious.
New Reds manager Dusty Baker keeps Dick Pole as pitching coach (AP)

New Cincinnati Reds manager Dusty Baker kept Dick Pole as his pitching coach Thursday, reuniting him with one of his top assistants from his days with the San Francisco Giants. The 57-year-old Pole was Baker’s pitching coach with the Giants from 1993-97. Pole was hired by the Reds for last season, and has already provided ...
Reds Fans Do Not Like Dusty Baker; Thoughts and Opinions...
2007-10-16 19:11:00
I saw this title from Babes Love Baseball and the title fit so well that I?m going to use it ? ?Marge Schott Rolls Over in Her Grave?. Well, as noted yesterday, Dusty Baker got hired as manager for the Cincinnati Reds, taking over for interim manager Pete Mackanin was not retained, although he did have a winning record with the team in his time as its leader. This would have never happened a generation ago.It looks like Reds fans are not happy with the decision at all. If you take a look at some of the Reds forums, articles and blogs out there, fans are disgusted with the hire and some are willing to forego going to Reds? games in the future.Based on Baker?s resume, Cincinnati could have had a far worse hire.Huh? Give this guy a chance to manage? I don?t want to scream out racism, but it would be sad if some close-minded people preferred someone who was white. If he helps you win, fans won?t care if he?s green. Then again, if he loses in Cincinnati, there will be far other reasons y...
Eric Gagne: I'd Hate to Be You Right Now; Reds Get Dusty Baker, The Family
2007-10-15 19:43:00
While I was up in Beantown, I saw you rip the heart out of Sox fans hoping for a 2-0 lead in the ALCS, but I saw you stink it up.If it were not for you, the Baltimore Orioles would have two less wins than they should have gotten otherwise. However, since you joined the Red Sox, you have sucked and it's just sad how far you have fallen from your days with the Dodgers.Son, would I not like to be you this week.***It looks like Dusty Baker is coming back!According to various media sources, Dusty has signed a three-year deal to become manager of the Reds.By hiring Dusty Baker as their next manager, the Cincinnati Reds have made a pronounced change in philosophy, turning to an outsider to run the team for the first time in 18 years. The last time they did it, they won a championship. The Reds confirmed on Sunday that Baker will become their next manager. Baker, who has a three-year deal, will be introduced at a news conference Monday in Cincinnati."Dusty is extremely excited to join the Ci...

Ex-Cubs Skipper Dusty Baker Waits for Opening
2007-06-30 00:20:00
As nearly a dozen MLB managerial jobs hang in the balance, former Cubs manager and now broadcast analyst Dusty Baker will take advantage of a loophole in his two-year contract with ESPN to terminate his deal should any team choose him as its next skipper.Baker had the clause woven into the pact expressly for this purpose when he signed with ESPN five months ago.Baker is eager to return to field management as he feels his disappointing tenure in Chicago was more the result of bad circumstances than ineffective leadership.
