Custer Cars: Early Electric Vehicles
2008-08-20 07:01:00 The Custer car was an early alternative fuel car - and you can see from the pictures that it looked as if it came from Munchkin Land. Custer Specialty Car Company began producing electric cars and wheelchairs in Dayton, Ohio, in 1920. The founder, L. Luzern Custer, was an invalid, hence the three

Is it to early to start talking about 2012?
2008-07-23 22:29:00 The ever interesting and erudite Michael Barone posted about what the 2010 census is looking like right now in terms of shuffling the electoral votes by adding or subtracting congressional districts due to population changes. The long and the short of it is 14 EV will get moved around with those states going for Bush in 2004 getting +8 and those states going for Kerry getting -8. But there is more to the story. If you further refine the data for states that went strongly for Bush (>5% margin), weakly for Bush (<=5% margin), weakly for Kerry (5% margin), you find that the switch is even more pronounced. The states that went strongly for Bush are likely to gain 10 EV (Arizona +2, Florida +2, Georgia +1, Louisiana -1, Missouri -1, North Carolina+1, South Carolina +1, Texas +4 and Utah +1). Those that went weakly for Bush are likely to lose 2 EV (Iowa -1, Nevada +1, Ohio -2). The states that went weakly for Kerry are likely to lose 2 EV (Michigan -1, Minn. -1, Oregon +1, Penn. -1...

Want to get home early from work? Spend some time on looking good !
2008-07-14 09:40:00 Yeah..that's what has been revealed in a recent Synovate survey on beauty. More than 55% of the people think that well groomed and good looking people can get away with less work at workplace than their peers. Now, I have my doubts if this holds true in India ? you can make your judgements :) I?d be more inclined to say that girls do have advantage of being just that ? girls. They do sometimes get away with lesser work at office, and its not only at workplace ! Think about any situation ? lets say you are in a long queue to get tickets. If a girls approaches you saying she is in hurry, most of the you may allow her to go ahead and feel good about it. But if guy approached you, it very unlikely that you will allow him to get ahead of you. Unfair advantage? you take a call !

Game Thread; Cubs at Giants, 7:05 p.m. EDT/6:05 CT: Happy Early 4th
2008-07-03 21:00:00 Hi. I'm good at this closing thing. This is going to be short, because I'm currently on a great start of a four-day weekend. If the Cubs win this game, it's going to be a steal. Why? Because Tim Lincecum is pitching. Lincecum is a top up-and-coming pitcher on a crappy team. He's lost only once this season and leads the leagues in strikeouts. So, yeah, he's OK. The Cubs will counter with Sean Gallagher. Maybe he'll throw a complete game two-hitter, so as to prevent Lou from coming back out to the pitcher's mound and tearing him a new one. Winning today won't be impossible, but it'll be tough. However, new papa A-Ram is expected to be back, along with secret weapon Reed Johnson. A win here would be a huge boost for this weekend's showdown with St. Louis. The game once again is on Comcast (dammit), and lineups will be along in a while from someone who can actually watch the game. Everyone have a safe and great holiday.

Early Saturday wrap
2008-06-08 01:02:00 BY ADAM RONIS Those damn Yankees!!! For the second time in three games, not only do I see the Yankees cost me save from my closer, but I have to see them get a comeback walkoff win in the process. On a day Mariano Rivera actually gives up a homer, it becomes secondary. Instead, Johnny Damon goes 6-for-6 with the winning hit. He also scored a run and had four RBIs with his 10th stolen base. As if the Mets don't provide enough stress, then I have to watch this. Jose Guillen started poorly and has come on strong. He went 3-for-4 with two homers and seven RBIs. He has nine homers and 45 RBIs. Jason Giambi hit his 13th home run and still has value. Jorge Posada hit his second homer in the bottom of the ninth to tie the score. I hope you listened and sold high on Brian Bannister in April. He's way too inconsistent and doesn't have great stuff. Joakim Soria blew his first save of the season. He went 2/3 inning and allowed three hits, two runs and a walk. He has a 1.67 ERA. Andy Pettitte...

Early Rasmussen Poll: “Barry” Obama Leads “Panama”
2008-06-07 03:06:00 Why The “Barry Bump” In The National Polls In The Last Few Days? I Have (as usual) A Theory… Hey, do you think just MAYBE Barry Obama could be leading the Panamanian-born and eventual migrant to the Great State Of Arizona, U.S. Senator and present G.O.P. presidential “hopeful”, Señor John McCain, because he has, thus far, avoided naming Her Royal Highness, Sir Hillary Rodham Clinton as his running mate? Guess what? I DO. I happened to check out MemeOrandum as usual, just to see what my fellow bloggers were arguing about, and somewhere down beneath the fold, I saw the link to one of the newest Rasmussen polls showing that Señor McCain was favored in another “Great State” by the name of “West Virginia by a margin of 45% to 38%. No HUGE surprise there, of course. But as I dug DEEPER into the Rasmussen Reports, I learned this: Daily Presidential Tracking Poll The Rasmussen Reports daily Presidential Tracking Poll for Friday shows w...

2009 Mustang production ends early; 2010 engine questions persist
2008-06-06 23:29:00 Ford announced this week that production of the 2009 Mustang will end early - less than a half model year. That means the restyled 2010 Mustang will arrive well before the year 2010 - probably around March of 2009 so that it will compete on day 1 of the Camaro's availability. But will it be competitive? The 2009 Mustang glass roof option is shown below. The glass roof can be offered on the 2009 model because the roofline of the 2010 is identical - so no changes are necessary. The rest of the 2010 is simply a "top hat" restyle, as it's known in the industry. The measurements of the car are identical, all hard points are identical. External sheetmetal is updated and there are slight updates to the dashboard and interior: ( http://www.drivingenthus-iast.net/sec-blog/2008/06/04.ht-ml#a2414 ). These kind of skimpy updates are all that can be done when when your company is unprofitable, your corporate HQ is in hock to your banks, sales are way down (especial...

Arch Enemy Revive Early LPs With A Twist; Carcass Aim For U.S. Tour; Plus D
2008-06-06 14:00:00 'We're just really hungry right now,' frontwoman Angela Gossow says of Arch Enemy's plans.By Chris Harris Arch Enemy's Angela Gossow and Michael Amott Photo: Century Media Last fall, Michael Amott, guitarist for Swedish melodic death-metallers Arch Enemy, confirmed in an interview with Metal File that Carcass, the legendary British grindcore band he played in during the early '90s, would be re-forming for a spate of live gigs. But while the band has booked a ton of festival appearances overseas, Carcass have yet to announce a single U.S. date. The File spoke to Arch Enemy frontwoman Angela Gossow (and Ammott's fiancee) last week, just before the band played the final date on the sold-out Tyranny and Bloodshred Tour, with support acts Dark Tranquillity, Divine Heresy and Firewind. Gossow told us that while nothing has been made official, "there is something in the works for the States." According to Gossow, Carcass have been approached about a possible U.S. headlini...

Early Thursday roundup
2008-06-06 00:21:00 BY ADAM RONIS Another reason to hate the Yankees. The comeback cost me a Dustin McGowan win and B.J. Ryan save. Like I needed any more incentive. Matt Stairs went 3-for-5 with a homer and five RBIs. He has seven homers and 21 RBIs. Jason Giamroid, I mean Giambi, hit a pinch-hit walkoff two-run homer off Ryan. Giambi has 12 homers and 31 RBIs. McGowan was shaky all game. He went 5 1/3 innings and allowed seven hits, five runs, walked two and struck out five. He has a 4.26 ERA, but he misses a lot of bats. He throw hard and needs to cut down on his walks. I'd buy low. Ryan blew his second consecutive save. He has been excellent until recently and you have to be a little concerned about his arm in his return from Tommy John surgery. He allowed three hits and three runs in 2/3 inning. Can we please stop overrating Chien-Mien Wang now? Enough with the Cy Young talk. He has been issuing a lot of walks lately. He went 4 1/3 innings and allowed five hits, seven runs -- six earned -- walked...
