It?s Time To Realign and Bring Back the Heat Among Hated Rivals
2008-06-09 11:55:00
(c) OnFrozenBlog - http://www.onfrozenblog.com/ - I have six principles guiding a much-needed, rigorous realignment of NHL teams for the 2009-10 season. They are: (1) There is widespread support among general managers, owners, players, media, the presidential candidates, and hockey fans to have the Alexander Ovechkin and Sidney Crosby rivalry, such as ...
Numbers and D. Wade rumors
2008-06-04 10:40:00
Upon release of the numbers of test results and drills at the NBA draft combine in Orlando, I was surprised at some of the numbers, but wasn’t to concerned. Michael Beasley who had been listed from 6′8 to 6′10 measured in at 6′7 without shoes, and 6′8 ¼ with. What does that mean? Absolutely nothing really. He has ...
June 4, 1998: Washington Seriously Parties Over Hockey into the Wee Hours
2008-06-04 06:35:00
(c) OnFrozenBlog - http://www.onfrozenblog.com/ - Ten years ago today Joe Juneau scored what many Washington hockey fans consider to be the most significant goal in Capitals’ history — a game and series-ending, Wales Trophy earning tally, one catapulting Capsdom into delirium, 6:24 into overtime, on the road, in the Eastern Conference Finals’ game ...

Celtics Win Eastern Conference: Bring On The Lakers!
2008-06-02 02:02:00
Before I start, I want to thank the Papa Joe radio show (KLAV, 1230 out of Las Vegas) for having me on today to discuss the ?honorable? Senator from the great state of Comcast, Arlen Specter. It was fun, my first time on a radio show as a guest. Nerve racking, but fun. They should have a link to the show on their site tomorrow. If you get a chance to listen, let me know how I did. 8:39 PM: Rip Hamilton is playing, which is big for Detroit. We?ll see how he does. Hey, the Pistons won the tip for the first time this series. They must be serious. 8:42 PM: Ray Allen missed a three, but at least he shot the ball. First foul of the game?on Rondo. Billups missed?that?s odd. By the way, I?m halfway through my first Sam Adams Boston Ale, and Ray Allen just drained a three!! Good signs everywhere early! 8:44 PM: By the way, I still haven?t accepted Ray Allen back into the Big Three, nor have I fixed my keyboard yet. Two minutes and twenty four seconds of basketball, four calle...

Still Can?t Believe It
2008-05-28 17:58:00
It?s been a week and I still can?t believe how lucky us Bulls fans are. Last Tuesday night the Bulls were more than just lucky to jump over eight teams to win the #1 pick. They were lucky enough to have a new rebuilding plan fall into their laps. In two months, no matter who ...
Celtics-Cavs: Paul Pierce Leads Celtics Past LeBron To Eastern Conference F
2008-05-19 04:31:00
Paul Pierce and I have been through a lot over the last few years. As a player, he?s suffered through one of the most inept front offices in professional sports, one of the worst coaches in professional sports (no, not Doc?I?m talking about that fraud Rick Pitino), a few of the worst seasons in Celtics history, a Boston media that loves to criticize everything he does on a basketball court, and a fan base that seemingly blames him for all of the hard times the Celtics have gone through recently. As a fan, I?ve suffered through losing season after losing season?rebuilding project after rebuilding project. But I've always contended that Paul Pierce could be great, he just needed some help. When Kevin Garnett and Ray Allen were acquired last offseason, Paul Pierce became the third wheel of the new Big Three in the minds of the NBA talking heads. Those talking heads couldn?t have been more wrong. Pierce has been the most consistent player on the best team in the Eastern Conference al...

2008-05-17 23:15:00
The theme in the 2008 NBA playoffs should be changed from “There Can Only Be One” to “Thank God We’re Home.!” It seems that none of the elite teams can win on the road. The Boston Celtics had the best road record in the NBA at 31-10 but have been taken to the limit in ...
Eastern conference final: Flyers avoid the sweep.
2008-05-16 06:33:00
The Philadelphia Flyers avoided the elimination yesterday in their series with the Pittsburgh Penguins. With a productive first period, the ''Broad Street Bullies'' were finally able to establish their physical presence in this series. The Flyers were solid early on and it was good for three unanswered goals from the 9th to the 18th minute the first period. First Joffrey Lupul at even strenght, then Daniel Briere and Jeff Carter each during a man-advantage.With the lead, the Flyers did focused on Sidney Crosby, Evgeni Malkin and Marian Hossa. The constant bodychecks managed to get under the Penguins stars players' skin. There were many retaliations from Crosby during the second part of the game.Only Jordan Staal managed to beat Martin Biron yesterday. But he did in fact managed to beat him twice during the third period. So with just under six minutes to go the Penguins were only one goal behind. A quiet and anxious crowd started wondering if their team could hold on.But the Fly...

Eastern conference final: Penguins ties NHL playoff record.
2008-05-14 04:51:00
Game three of the Eastern conference final was presented tonight at the Wachovia center in Philadelphia and the Flyers were in a must-win situation as they were down 0-2 in the series. But with the injuries to Kimmo Timonen and Braydon Coburn, the Philadelphia Flyers' defensive corp could not stave off the Penguins offense.Very early into the first period, a shot from Ray Whitney was deflected into Martin Biron's net. Then only two minutes later, Marian Hossa has scored his seventh goal of the playoffs on a shot that the Flyers goaltender would like to see again.R.J. Umberger did reduce the Penguins lead to a single goal before the first period was over but it was the only Flyers goal of the game. Philadelphia's first offensive line was invisible all evening long. Daniel Briere and Vaclav Prospal who are considered to be the top offensive players for the Flyers did not register a shot on net in this one.During the third period, the Penguins extended their lead with goals from Ryan...

Eastern conference final: The Penguins win again.
2008-05-12 04:26:00
Game two of the Eastern conference final was played tonight and the Pittsburgh Penguins defeated the Philadelphia Flyers by the score of 4-2 for a second time in a row to take a 2-0 series lead.Despite a better overall performance from the Flyers, the Penguins managed to get big goals at important moments in the game. Both teams managed to get scoring from their special team units.First, at the halfway point of the first period, Sidney Crosby's shot was deflected by Lasse Kukkonen's skate and went past goaltender Martin Biron. The Flyers tied the game with Jeff Carter's fifth goal of the playoffs during another man advantage. Then Marian Hossa gave a 2-1 lead to the Penguins on yet another man advantage. But just seconds before the end of the second period, Mike Richards tied the game while being shorthanded when he went all alone with goaltender Marc-Andre Fleury. The goal from Richards could've turn this series around should the Flyers scored the following goal. But the winning...

Eastern conference final: The Malkin way.
2008-05-10 04:08:00
The series between the Philadelphia Flyers and the Pittsburgh Penguins began tonight in Pittsburgh. Evgeni Malkin did not waste any time and made his presence felt all game long. Both teams exchanged five goals in an exciting first period in this series opener. First, Petr Sykora opened the score when he waited for goaltender Martin Biron to make the first move to beat him after only six minutes of play. The Flyers replied with two goals from Mike Richards in a four minute span to give a 2-1 lead to his team. The ''Broad Street Bullies'' lead only lasted 1:21 when Sidney Crosby scored his third goal of the playoffs, tying the game at 2-2. From this point on, Evgeni Malkin took charge and made the difference. With only six seconds to go in this offensive first period, Malkin scored his first goal of the game, his seventh of the playoffs and the game winning goal.Five minutes into the second period and playing shorthanded, Evgeni Malkin accepted a great pass from Sergei Gonchar and ...

The Eastern Conference vs. The Western Conference: Two Paths to Success
2008-05-06 22:22:00
For the past decade there has been an obvious difference between the Eastern Conference and the Western Conference in the NBA. For the most part this has always played out with the quality of the play on the court, with the West dominating the East. However, this year there is another split
Round 1: Philadelphia vs. Detroit
2008-05-06 22:03:00
I had this series going to 5 games at the most. The 76ers are a gritty, athletic ball club and I knew they could catch Detroit slipping. I didn’t expect an opening series win, but maybe the Pistons took Philly lightly. During the first game, everything was going as everyone thought it would. The Pistons were ...

What a wild first-round of NBA playoffs. I found myself surprised and disappointed with a lot of individual and team performances. I’m blinded by the potential this guy has. Truth is, he could average 25 points per game if he wanted to. He has a way of sliding by defenders, knifing into the lane and making the pretty finish. This was supposed to be the break out year, the year where he stood up and took ...
Eastern Conference Playoffs [Digg]
2008-04-24 03:11:00
Honestly, the Boston Celtics will be playing like men among boys in the Eastern Conference. Kevin Garnett, Ray Allen and Paul Pierce are just too powerful a combination for any team in the East to handle. It not just that these three can score at will, but there defense is the best in the NBA and they can stop anyone.

How ‘Bout Those Eastern Conference Playoffs
2008-04-18 06:43:00
Unlike the West, the Eastern Conference playoffs have a chance to be pleasantly surprising (thank you, low expectations). The other reason the Eastern Conference playoffs will be good? The Washington Wizards. They meet the Cavs in the playoffs for the 3rd straight year and that first round series will be the best in the NBA not involving the Spurs and Suns. The Wizards want to beat the Cavs. Badly. Meanwhile, David Stern wants the Cavs to win. Badly. Should the Wizards prevail (and I think they will), they’ll take on the Celtics (who will be coming off a closer than expected series against a very athletic Hawks team). Right now handing the Eastern Conference to the Celtics is all the rage, but the Wizards will beat them. (I’d like to be higher on the Celtics, but every time I turn on my TV they’re being pummeled by a short-handed Wizards team.) For the first time in years all eight Eastern Conference playoff teams have potential.  The Hawks are young and at...

2008 NHL Playoff Predictions – Eastern Conference, Opening Round

Some interesting storylines are transpiring even before the first puck is dropped on the Eastern Conference side of the Stanley Cup playoffs. Did Ovechkin and the Capitals burn themselves out trying to corral the Southeast Conference title? Can the Bruins actually beat the Canadiens, even once? Are the Senators poised to give the Penguins all they can handle? Who will be the last one standing in what is sure to be a bruising series between the Rangers and Devils? Here is how we see things unfolding in the East, setting the stage for you to offer your retort on how the chips will fall in the opening round:MONTREAL CANADIENS (1) VS. Montreal Canadiens: Eastern conference champions!
2008-04-07 11:30:00
The last match of the regular season has been played in the NHL and the Montreal Canadiens with 104 points clinched the Eastern conference championship. The last time the club has won the conference championship was in 1992.So for the first round of the playoffs, The Montreal Canadiens will face the Boston Bruins who finished 8th in the East. Montreal and Boston played each other eight times this season and Montreal has won all eight games. I expect that this trend will continue. I think the Habs have what it takes to take the Bruins out in five games.I will add more details about the 2008 NHL Playoffs, daily. I will also give my view on every first round series.

The Great Eastern Conference Tank Job
2008-04-07 06:34:00
Gregg Oden and Kevin Durant are no longer awaiting the winner’s of this year’s draft lottery, but hey, that’s no reason for Eastern Conference teams to not tank the end of the season. Take a look at the standings. There are only two teams still trying to win. The Hawks—because they’re securing the final playoff spot, and the Celtics—because they don’t know how to relax and rest themselves for the post-season. The rest of the conference could care less whether they win. The big battle is between Atlanta, Toronto, and Washington to not finish 5th and draw a matchup with Cleveland. On Wednesday the Wizards blew a 10 point 4th quarter lead and lost at home to Milwaukee. On Saturday the Sixers, who are the hottest team in basketball, lost at home to Altanta. Not to be outdone, the Raptors lost back-to-back games to Charlotte and New Jersey. You can’t blame any of them. There are three Eastern Conference teams nobody wants to play. Clevel...
