2012-05-12 19:06:00 by Andrew Gould Who would have guessed that Edwin Encarnacion would prove to be the Toronto Blue Jays? most valuable third baseman in fantasy baseball one month into the season? As Jose Bautista tortures owners who finally acknowledged his emergence … Continue reading →

Troublesome Edwin Encarnacion Trends
2009-08-04 17:54:00 Troublesome Edwin Encarnacion Trends Home/Away Split The Park Factors for the Great America Ball Park have always been high. ESPN and Baseball-Reference confirm this theory (ESPN gives the park a 1.00+ run and HR ranking in each of the past three seasons. Baseball-Reference lists the hitting factor at 104, which is high on their system). For his career ...

Edwin Encarnacion?s Big Hit and Stupid Color Commentary
2008-04-03 14:49:00 “Dusty Baker was calling for Edwin Encarnacion to bunt with the team down two runs, no outs and two men on (first and second). Encarnacion looked like he had never been asked to bunt in his life and gave up two strikes. He then CRUSHED a Lyon hanger to end the game after the bunt ...

Ranking the Young Third Basemen: Part IV
2007-05-27 04:41:00 OK. Time for the finale of this feature. We'll now look at the long-term potential of these guys. Keep in mind, I haven't done extensive research into which types of minor leaguers tend to become good major leaguers, and these rankings are very rough. They represent the order in which I, if in a keeper league, would probably keep them being forced to choose now. Without further ado...Keeper League Rankings1. Alex Gordon1a. Kevin Kouzmanoff2. Ryan Braun2a. Edwin Encarnacion3. Akinori Iwamura4. Andy LaRoche5. Mark ReynoldsAlright. I hope you enjoyed this feature today. I'll be back tomorrow with the Waiver Wire for both leagues and possibly something else.

Ranking the Young Third Basemen: Part III
2007-05-26 23:50:00 Alright. Throughout the day I've analyzed some of the Top Young Third Basemen in the majors. Now, I'll rank these guys in the order I think you should pick them up if you are in need of a 3B/CI. First will be short-term rankings. Please keep in mind that rookies are the toughest players to predict because we are basing these predictions on easily compromised minor league numbers and speculation. A guy like Ryan Braun could hit for a good average if his 2007 AAA numbers carry over, but as this is somewhat unlikely, I'm not going to count on him hitting .300 for me.Alongside each player I've listed stats. These are not scientifically created. They came off the top of my head, and they are only there to compare the different skills of the different players. If your team needs steals, you'd be better off taking Iwamura or Gordon or Braun. If you need power and can afford a slightly lower BA, Reynolds might be your man. The numbers are for comparative purposes only, so please do not...

Edwin Encarnacion
2007-05-10 23:00:00 More Cincinnati Reds information. The Reds sent 3B Edwin Encarnacion to AAA and will have Ryan Freel man the hot corner. In addition to the likelihood of Freel being a Chone Figgins-esque qualifier for 2008 drafts, his move to third signals as strongly as possible that rookie phenom Josh Hamilton has made believers of the Reds. He should now get full-time ABs in the outfield. There is nothing in Hamilton's 2007 performance that would lead anyone to believe he cannot continue hitting 260-270 with power. There are obvious reasons in his minor league numbers to believe otherwise. However, he can be safely played in all formats for teams that can afford to carry his AVG. A couple of other related points. First, if Hamilton has a weakness, it will be exposed during this upcoming stretch. (Hindsight may say it began 9 ABs ago.) Second, maybe the Yankees can trade for Encarnacion. I think Wayne Krivsky has shown a love for the Brian Br...

Edwin Encarnacion to AAA
2007-05-10 19:11:00 Again, I find myself dumbfounded at the ignorance of a move made by a Major League Baseball club. Edwin Encarnacion was demoted to Triple A this morning. Edwin is a guy I have been hyping as a Buy Low candidate, and there is no better time than now to get him. It seems somewhat likely the Reds will trade Edwin to a team that realizes how good he is. And considering what they took for Austin Kearns last year after he was demoted, I doubt they'll be hard pressed to find a suitable trading partner. Edwin is much better than Kearns, but the Reds are treating him terribly.Edwin's K rate is actually down from last year, and his Contact Rate is at around 81%. His BB rate is down too, but 8.2% isn't bad. A 20.7% LD Percentage is pretty good too. I still believe the power is there, as I actually expected 25-30 out of him in the preseason. The one he has hit this year went a long way, so I still expect him to put up good power numbers once he gets back on his feet. If his owner drops him, ...
