Devil Rays Edwin Jackson Will Have Trouble With Red Sox
2008-06-03 20:00:00
06/4/08 POINTSHAVERS.COM - Tonight, Edwin Jackson will be throwing in a hornet's nest at Feneway when he face the red hot Red Sox -- winners of 11 straight games at Fenway Park. Luckily for Jackson, he won't have to face David Ortiz tonight. Ortiz is still on the 15-Day Disabled List with a partially torn tendon in his left wrist. Unfortunately, he still has to deal with red hot Manny Ramirez who finally got his 500th homer off of the Baltimore Orioles several days ago. With the load off of his shoulders, Ramirez has nothing to focus on besides playing great baseball. To make matters worse, Jackson will be facing Red Sox ace Josh Beckett tonight. Beckett (5-4 W-L, 4.30 ERA) is undefeated at Fenway Park this year; and, the Red Sox have scored 27 runs in those three games that Becket has won. Jackson (3-4 W-L, 3.70 ERA) is coming off of a dissapointing game against the White Sox where he gave up a season high 10 hits and 4 runs to the White Sox en route to a 5-1 loss to the W...
Rosenthal's Latest: Krivsky, Scherzer, Edwin Jackson
2008-04-29 18:22:00
Ken Rosenthal has a new column up; let's take a look. Rosenthal gives a good refresher on July trade candidates; pretty much the names you'd expect. Reasons for Wayne Krivsky's firing are discussed.  By the way check out John Fay's blog for some candid final comments from Krivsky.  One interesting note is that he had no extension talks with Adam Dunn. The D'Backs could use Max Scherzer to strengthen their bullpen, or they could shop Chad Tracy for a reliever. Rosenthal wonders whether the Nationals might consider the under-30 segment of the next free agent class. Plenty of teams continue to express interest in the Rays' Edwin Jackson.  Something has to give in their rotation when Scott Kazmir returns, but demoting Andy Sonnanstine to the pen would solve the logjam.
Edwin Jackson And Other Fantasy Notes From Yesterday
2008-04-16 17:43:00
No sooner do fantasy players notice the great start of Rays SP Edwin Jackson then he goes and gets smacked around by the New York Yankees.  Five earned runs and eight runners allowed later, fantasy players are kicking themselves for believing the fool's gold that is Edwin Jackson.  In 19 innings covering three starts, EJax has walked ten. The Mariners placed ace left-hander Erik Bedard on the 15-day DL with hip inflamation.  There is no real way to spin this positively except to say the Mariners should feel glad they didn't pursue and sign Bedard to a long-term contract. The Atlanta Braves placed closer Peter Moylan on the DL with right elbow inflamation.  This turns second-year right-hander Manny Acosta into the team's closer, and the bullpen into a cause for concern.  With most expected contenders struggling with their own bullpens, the market for decent relievers should be frenzied.  The question is who is going to make the 21st century version of...
Odds and Ends: Cliff Lee, Edwin Jackson
2007-12-04 17:52:00
You know the drill... Nick Piecoro checks in on his blog.  Apparently the D'Backs discussed swapping Carlos Quentin for Cliff Lee before sending him to Chicago.  As much as he might've liked to it seems like Josh Byrnes couldn't get a starter for Quentin. Geoff Baker links the Mariners to Lee,  Ben Sheets, Mark Prior, and Edwin Jackson based on yesterday's buzz.  The Sheets one has since been questioned, since the Dodgers were identified as the West Coast team that inquired.  Prior could be part of a Raul Ibanez trade, but the Cubs are first focusing on Fukudome.  As for Jackson, the Rays would want more than just Ben Broussard. John Fay believes the Reds will have to part with Jay Bruce or Homer Bailey to get a frontline starter. showad();
Live Game Notes
2007-09-30 01:55:00
Live Game Notes   Today I caught the 2nd last Jays game of the season, an afternoon soiree vs. the Devil Rays. Here are my observations of the game. -Edwin Jackson looked really sharp early on. In fact, I think he was no hitting the Jays through the first four frames. He was “effectively wild” as they like to say, he was missing bats but also missing the strikezone - 5BB:6SO. - KELLY GRUBER WAS AT THE GAME!!!     -Jesse Litsch continues to baffle me. From my vantage point, he looked unremarkable at best. In fact I was licking my chops watching him throw straight fastballs down the pipe with little to no movement. I wanted to step in that batter’s box myself. He did shut down the Rays this day, albeit an overly aggressive, inexperienced lineup full of September call ups. -Griffin’s HR was an absolute bomb!! It was hella loud and I couldn’t see but it looked like it bounced off the upper deck facing in left. After that shot everyone sat up and took no...
Edwin Jackson - Comeback Kid?
2007-08-21 21:30:00
Edwin Jackson - Comeback Kid? After watching the Indians/Rays game a few days ago, I came away impressed with a once top level prospect, one Edwin Jackson. Originally a top flight prospect in the Dodgers organization (Baseball America ranked him as #1 in the Dodgers system in 2003), the Dodgers may have rushed Jackson to the show, ...
Edwin Jackson?s first career shutout sends Devil Rays to 3-0 victory over T
2007-08-12 06:04:00
Edwin Jackson pitched a four-hitter for his first career complete game, sending the Tampa Bay Devil Rays to a 3-0 victory over the Texas Rangers on Saturday night. Jackson (3-11) struck out eight, walked one and allowed only one runner past second base in Tampa Bay’s first shutout of the season. Delmon Young doubled twice ...

Edwin Jackson (P-TB)
2007-03-24 06:28:00
Jackson appears to be the front runner for the 5th starter's spot in Tampa Bay. He has pitched well this spring posting a 1.80 ERA in 10 innings. He also has no options left. Jackson could be a late-round sleeper in AL-only leagues as he was once a very highly touted prospect.
