Woman with objects fetish marries Eiffel Tower
2008-06-09 17:32:00
Erika La Tour Eiffel, 37, a former soldier who lives in San Francisco, has been in love with objects before. Her first infatuation was with Lance, a bow that helped her to become a world-class archer, she is fond of the Berlin Wall and she claims to have a physical relationship with a piece of fence she keeps in her bedroom. But it is the Eiffel Tower she has pledged to love, honour and obey in an intimate ceremony attended by a handful of friends. She has changed her name legally to reflect the bond.

Prague's (little) version of Eiffel tower
2008-02-26 00:01:00
Petrinska rozhledna/Petrin lookout tower is Prague's so called smaller version of Paris' Eiffel tower. It was build in 1891. When the weather is right you can see places in the Czech republic that are more than 100km far away. There's a grand view on Prague Castle as well :)The only drawback is that it is on the top of Petrin hill and you have to literally climb up here. But than again, there are those fabulous views on Prague during your climb. Here's a link to the real Eiffel tower at Paris DP.

Lancome cosmetic counters are offering a free gift with purchase of $28.50 from now til 2/24!  ADMISSION:  I generally totally dismiss gift with purchase offers.  You get some of Lancome’s best items: Trésor Eau de Parfum fragrance, Définicils mascara, Bi-Facil, Rénergie Microlift R.A.R.E. face and eye cream, Color Design eye shadow quad and lipstick. What caught my eye about this one?  not only do you get very usable products at a cheap price but you get the most adorable bag with what looks like little Eiffel Tower zipper pulls!  Like I said, I almost always dismiss these things but I’m half French and my daughters both fell in love with the Tour Eiffel last year when we went to Paris so this is just a must have item for me!! I’ll be at my counter early Saturday morning to pick mine up, the only problem is which color bag to choose?! Post from: Steeping Beauty Lancome’s Gift With Purchase - Tour Eiffel Zipper Pulls!! The Construction of Eiffel Tower
2007-07-19 16:01:00
The tower was built by the engineering firm of Gustave Eiffel, Eiffel et Cie, a company well established in metallic construction projects. This firm underwent many transformations in the following years, but it still survives today, still under the name Eiffel, and it still specializes in complex steel construction work and engineering.Eiffel didn't design the tower all by himself, however. Other people in his firm who worked extensively on the tower included engineers Émile Nouguier and Maurice Koechlin; Tower architect Stephen Sauvestre; Jean Compagnon, who handled construction of the superstructure; and Adolphe Salles, who worked on the physical plant of the tower. The patents covering the tower were filed jointly by Eiffel, Nouguier, and Koechlin (the latter two eventually sold their rights to Eiffel in exchange for a percentage of the revenue generated by the tower).Note that Eiffel's company was very competent and undertook a great many interesting projects besides the Eiff...

EIFFEL TOWER
2007-03-23 23:33:00
The Eiffel Tower (French: La Tour Eiffel) is an iron tower built on the Champ de Mars beside the River Seine in Paris, France. It is the tallest structure in Paris and possibly the most recognized monument in the world. Named after its designer, engineer Gustave Eiffel, it is the most visited monument in the world; 6,428,441 people visited the tower in 2005 and more than 200,000,000 since its construction. Including the 24 m (78.7 ft) antenna, the structure is 324 m (1063 ft) high (since 2000), which is about 81 stories. In 1902, it was struck by lightning, which meant that 100 metres of the top had to be reconstructed and the lights illuminating the tower had to be replaced, as they were damaged by the high energy of the lightning. At the time of its construction in 1887, the tower replaced the Washington Monument as the world's tallest structure, a title it retained until 1930, when New York City's Chrysler Building (319 m/1046.58 ft tall) was completed (today, the Eiffel Tower i...
