It is official, Eklavya, The Royal Guard, will be India’s entry to the Oscars inspite all the recent controversies surrounding it. The Film Federation of India filed an affidavit before the Bombay High Court, saying they have committed to the movie and cannot change their decision. The HC had earlier made it clear that there was prima facie merit in the petition and thus any benefit or consequence the movie receives at the Oscars would be subject to court orders.

"Vidhu Chopra Invented Cinema"-Quips Farah Khan
2007-10-02 13:28:00
Trust Farah Khan to call a spade a spade and not be scared to speak her mind. The director was taken aback when Vidhu Vinod Chopra dragged her name into the whole Eklavya controversy. "I have the least knowledge about how I come into picture,” says Farah Khan who is neck-deep busy with the promotion of Om Shanti Om, "In fact I didn't have a word to say about the film, let alone pass a judgment on it being nominated."What would have made Vidhu Vinod Chopra react? "How do I know?", she questions back, "When asked by some journalists if Eklavya - The Royal Guard was a worthy entry, all I said was that there are so many films in regional languages like Bengali, Telugu, Tamil etc. being made. Since I had not seen any of these movies, how could I have a view on what should/should not be sent?"Farah quips in a lighter vein, "How can I ever think of criticising Vidhu Vinod Chopra? For that matter, how dare anyone? Don't you all know that...
High Court Finds Eklavya's Selection Biased
2007-10-01 12:32:00
The Eklavya Saga continues. On Friday the Bombay High Court observed that that prima facie the selection of the movie appeared biased."Prima facie, there seems to be a merit in the argument (that the selection process was biased)," said a division bench of Chief Justice Swatanter Kumar and Justice Dhananjay Chandrachud while hearing a petition challenging the selection of  Eklavya - the Royal Guard. The bench asked the Film Federation of India, which selected the film, to file a reply within 10 days and said, "Consequences of the film's selection  would be subject to the court order."The judges made it clear that high court has jurisdiction to hear such a case, by noting that "any process of selection which appears to be result of general or specific bias or arbitrariness can invite judicial review".
Sajid Khan's Open Letter To Vidhu Vinod Chopra!
2007-09-28 18:04:00
Looks like Bhawna Talwar is not the only one who has hit back at Vidhu Vinod Chopra! Actor/director Sajid Khan too has addressed the Eklavya controversy and has written an open letter to the director. A must read!Congratulations for the selection of Eklavya - The Royal Guard as India's nomination for Oscars.I saw your comments about films made by you and others in the recent past and what may/may not be worthy enough for recognition at the heartland of India and at the highest level. I am quite sure that you have made some highly respected films in the past and I am also certain that you have the greatest knowledge of films made across the globe.I am also absolutely fine if you comment on films made by lesser mortals like me or others who may have had an accomplished body of work behind them. Even if you have deep rooted statements to make about my knowledge of cinema, technique, intelligence, calibre and personality in general - I take all of that in good spirit (and humour). A...
Bhavna Talwar Sends Legal Notice Regarding Eklavya
2007-09-28 18:02:00
Indian Film Fraternity’s new found obsession with the Oscars is pretty apparent with all the controversies surrounding Eklavya. Personally I found the film extremely boring and the screenplay was a complete letdown. However many feel that Eklavya should have been India’s entry to the Oscars as it has the “foreign appeal”.  Dharm director Bhavna Talwar  disagrees and has sent a legal notice to the Film Federation Of India, alleging that the selection of Eklavya was “biased and vitiated and intended to wrongfully benefit the producer of the film Eklavya."
War of Words over India's Oscar entry, 'Eklavya'
2007-09-27 17:48:00
It came as a shock when Eklavya was chosen as India's official entry, considering the fact that this year we had many good movies like Frozen, Dharam, Gandhi my father, and Chak de, My knowledge of regional cinema isn't much so forgive me if I missed out on a good regional movieIts obvious that this hasn't gone down well with many people, and people like Farah khan, Anupam kher didn't have very nice words to say about the movie as they reckon that Eklavya wasn't an exceptional movie, and Chak de would have been a better choice, and Bhawna talwar, whose movie dharam missed out was feeling dejected and claimed that there was a politics involved, and went on to say that Eklavya was a boring filmIt seems that Vidhu viod chopra has had enough of all these rantings, responding to all these criticisms, chopra said, ?What are the credentials of these people?what is their understanding of cinema?where does their allegiance lie,? said Vidhu Vinod Chopra when asked to react to the comme...

Before that Parineeta didn’t go, Paheli went. Did I say that Shah Rukh made a stupid film. My films didn’t go for two years, I didn’t bother anyone, why are they bothering us now,” Chopra said.
Eklavya official entry for Oscar?
2007-09-26 09:30:00
Eklavya has been chosen as the official entry for Oscars from India. The other names that were considered were Chak de, Guru, and Gandhi my father.Eklavya wasn't a unanimous decision but majority of jury went for it.The nomination of Eklavya by FFI has created quite a stir as its not one of the exceptional movies that were made in India this year, in fact far from it.Eklavya was a box office disaster and was thrashed by the critics for its weak script. The length of the movie is only one and half hours, but when you are watching it seems like eternity, that gives the idea how boring and badly written movie was EklavyaThe reasons for which this movie has been chosen must be only known to the FFI jury who came upon this decision. You will be shocked to learn that who was the head of that committee, Vijay pande, the guy who made z grade movie Red swastika, great credentials,I must sayMany might say that Chak de would have been the best choice, but themes like chak de have been done to ...

Eklavya Box Office Performance
2007-02-23 04:30:02
India Fm writes about Eklavya's performance on the Box Office:The response to the third biggie of the year, EKLAVYA – THE ROYAL GUARD, is divided. While the elite/gentry/classes have given their mandate, the masses haven’t taken to the film completely. The morning shows began on a modest 50% note, but increased to 80%-90% in the course of the day. Incidentally, Mani Ratnam’s GURU also opened to a similar response, but proved a success story eventually.Sunil Lulla of Eros was optimistic about EKLAVYA’s prospects. While in conversation with this writer on Friday evening, the distributor was positive that the film would gross fantastic figures in its opening weekend. Ravi Machhar, another distributor of EKLAVYA [Nizam territory], admitted that the collections rose at key centres [Hyderabad, Aurangabad] on Friday, starting with 40%-50% and touching 85%-90% by the evening shows.Preetam Jalan, who distributes EKLAVYA in Bengal, feels that the real test for the ...
Thumbs Up to Eklavya: The Royal guard
2007-02-21 15:41:01
Posters on the wall announce release of next flick of popular Bhojpuri star Manoj Tiwari ?Tu Hamar Hau? (you are mine). It?s an old theatre in real bad shape in the central part of Mumbai, reminiscent of the bygone mill era. Crowd here evokes memories of the small town where I saw my first film. However, its humble wooden benches defy a popular notion that multiplexes are the new cradles of different kind of Hindi cinema. Deepak Talkies with it?s peeling paint and roaring exhaust fans...
