Like this one...Its actually a six legged robotic lawn mower. Now all we need is a robotic sheepdog to keep an eye on it while it does its job.

Do Electric Sheep Have Android Dreams?
2008-05-12 06:22:00
Yes, that is a clever pun and it's entirely intentional. I've been incredibly unproductive today, mostly because I wrote two essays yesterday (still have two left) and my brain literally just wants to sit around and do nothing. I spent most of today trying to think of a good topic for one of my other essays and finally came up with one. Still, I feel that I've fallen away from this blog a little so I thought I'd present one of my earlier essays. This is a reader response, so it isn't a typical essay (for the record it's on Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep? by Philip K. Dick). So, enjoy: Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep is a trip into the subconscious of one of science fiction’s most renowned authors since the fall of the Golden Age, the Age of Science, and, for the most part, the Age of Sociological SF. Dealing with the overrunning theme of empathy—from a human perspective and from an android perspective—the text reflects some of Dick’s largest concerns wi...

Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep Screensavers?
2007-12-18 03:51:00
Electric Sheep is an open-source screensaver project. It's totally free to download, and it is purely amazing. These are some of the most beautiful images I've ever seen in a screensaver. You can download them here. Below are a couple of screen shots. Electric Sheep comes from the book Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep? the 1968 sci-fi novel by Philip K. Dick. This was the basis of the fantastic Blade Runner directed by Riddley Scott. These are multi-platform, too. They run on Linux and Windows just fine. One of the coolest features of this application is the more you run your screensaver, the more new "loops" are downloaded via torrent. At first I had only one, then just a handful. But now I've got dozens of "flocks" as they call them. Some are downright psychedelic. They are all quite stunning and beautiful.

Technology Would Help Detect Terrorists Before They Strike. BUFFALO, N.Y. -- Are you a terrorist?Voigt-Kampff TestYou’re in a desert walking along in the sand when all of the sudden you look down, and you see a tortoise, it’s crawling toward you. You reach down, you flip the tortoise over on its back. The tortoise lays on its back, its belly baking in the hot sun, beating its legs trying to turn itself over, but it can’t, not without your help. But you’re not helping. Why is that?Airport screeners, customs agents, police officers and members of the military who silently pose that question to people every day, may soon have much more than intuition to depend on to determine the answer.Computer and behavioral scientists at the University at Buffalo are developing automated systems that track faces, voices, bodies and other biometrics against scientifically tested behavioral indicators to provide a numerical score of the likelihood that an individual may be about to commit a te...
Do Androids Dream Of Electric Sheep?

A 1968 science fiction novel by Philip K. Dick. It tells of the moral crisis of Rick Deckard, a bounty hunter who stalks androids in a fallout-clouded, partially deserted future San Francisco. Along with The Man in the High Castle, the novel is Dick?s most famous. It is one of the defining science fiction works exploring the ethical dimensions of the “android” concept, as a literary device understanding concepts of persecution based on narrow distinctions, such as ethnicity.  Reviewed by Mike Philbin Surely you’ve heard this often before… or maybe you haven’t. It’s a question, a simple question. And here it is. Is Philip K. Dick the modern day equivalent of William Shakespeare? Now, I’ve gone totally PDK insane, yes? No. And I’ll show you why. Dick’s many books, the more I read them, have greater and greater resonance. Just like Shakespeare’s numerous volumes. I did hypothesise that maybe it was a symptom of me getting old....
