Energized Disengagement ? The New Trend
2012-02-09 15:38:00 I?m going to tell you the one thing no incentive company will tell you. Don?t run that recognition and reward program to fix your employee engagement problems. Don?t do it. Don?t do it. Don?t do it. Run a Program Save The World Here?s the problem. Most of the time the people tasked with driving ...

Employee Radar ? Repost
2012-02-07 14:30:00 This was originally posted in September of 2007 but it seems to me to be as applicable today as it was 4 years ago. Why Do We Love to Work at Companies Where We Don?t Have to Work?
2012-02-01 14:12:00 Employee engagement on the web and in business articles has almost reached parody status. I’m waiting for a Stephen Colbert character to emerge as the voice of engagement. (Folks planning next season’s shows – I get some of the credit if you do this!) Don’t get me wrong – I’m all for employee engagement. I ...
When ?Mobile? Recognition Makes Sense
2012-01-23 14:27:00 Last week I posted that ?mobilizing? employee reward and recognition programs was a red herring. My thought process was that recognizing employees isn?t a function of ?location? but a function of effort on the part of managers. Many in the incentive industry are launching ?mobile? apps for their incentive and reward platforms selling it from ...
Are Mobile Apps For Rewards and Recognition Red Herrings?
2012-01-18 13:34:00 Question for you all? Is having a mobile application for your rewards and recognition system important? Is it needed? Or is it simply a solution in search of a problem? Is it marketing bluster and me-too-ism? Is the development of apps and mobile tools to reward and recognize people really something the market needs and ...
Incentives Don?t Work If Behavior Isn?t Decision-Based
2012-01-06 15:20:00 Changing behavior is tough. As the New Year kicks off many of us have set goals and objectives for 2012 and are working hard to make them realities. Chances are we set up incentives for ourselves? save $100 and then treat yourself to a $20 gift. Or go to the gym 5 days in a ...

2011-10-31 09:30:00 Source: ForexYard Employment Data and Interest Rates Comes Into Focus This Week With a heavy news day ahead, many traders are awaiting this week's data releases before buying into riskier assets, especially with this week's employment and interest rate focus. September Private-Sector Jobs +91K Vs Expected +75K
2011-10-05 15:30:00 Private businesses added slightly more than expected jobs in September, according to a report released Wednesday. But large companies cut jobs and thanks mostly to two enterprises cutting staff, layoff announcements last month jumped to the highest number in more than two years.Private-sector jobs in the U.S. rose by 91,000 last month, according to a national employment report published by payroll giant Automatic Data Processing Inc. (ADP) and consultancy Macroeconomic Advisers. Economists surveyed by Dow Jones Newswires had expected ADP would report a September gain of just 75,000. The August data were revised down to show a rise of 89,000 versus 91,000 reported a month ago. The ADP survey tallies only private-sector jobs, while the Bureau of Labor Statistics' nonfarm payroll data, to be released Friday, include government workers.Economists surveyed by Dow Jones Newswires expect total nonfarm payrolls rose by only 60,000 slots in September after the number of jobs were unchanged ...

2011-09-05 15:46:00 How appropriate that this Labor day occurs 3 days before the president delivers a speech on jobs and the economy and only 3 days after another dismal employment report was released that shows that 14 million people are still unemployed and the unemployment rate remains at 9.1%. The employment report sent the stock market down... Read more »
Part-time Jobs Replace Full-Time Employment for Many
2011-02-28 18:29:00 The Great Recession has taken its toll on the workers trying to survive this difficult economy. With the scarcity of well paying full-time jobs, more people are forced to work multiple part-time positions to make a living. It is a sign of the times and flexibility appears to be the key to survival. According to research by Northeastern University one in four college-educated adults work in jobs unrelated to their degrees, with 40 % of those ages 25 and younger! This is a historically high number and one that shows no signs of slowly down in the near term. Twenty-six percent of these people are working minimum wage in retail, waiters and as bartenders to make ends meet....

Employment Exchanges Go The e-Way
2011-01-10 12:00:00 Gone are the days when thousands of job seekers made a beeline of employment exchanges to register themselves for job vacancies in the government departments. In a move to lessen the burden on job seekers, Haryana government has introduced e-registration process that will certainly cater to such people. According to Mahendra Pratap Singh, Minister, Labour and Employment, “All the services of the department, such as registration of job seekers and employers looking to fill vacancies, vocational or career guidance, disbursement of unemployment allowance and employment market information have been made available to the public online through its website www.hrex.org.†The website would facilitate job seekers to register their names. Once that is done, they would be required to submit the attested copies of their testimonials to the concerned employment exchange so as to get them verified. Are Employment Lay-offs Causing More Mulitple Homicides?
2010-09-28 18:09:00 Could a lay off from your job, foreclosure on your home, and potential bankruptcy be causing some of us to snap from the stress? The number of Americans who are killed in multiple acts of murder is rising according to recent FBI statistics. Homicides involving two or more victims rose from 1,360 incidents in 2008 to 1,428 incidents last year. FBI agents that investigate mass murders for that Behavioral Analysis unit confirm that there is indeed a direct correlation to this behavior with white, middle aged men being the most likely to commit these heinous crimes. They contend that it may be related to the economic downturn, saying that over the past couple of years as the economy...
ADA week: Employment opportunities
2010-07-28 23:52:00 As part of the celebration of the 20th anniversary of the ADA, President Barack Obama signed an executive order on Monday to increase the number of disabled workers hired by the federal government. Unfortunately, we've seen this promise before. In 2000, President Clinton signed a similar order, yet according to the White House, "few steps were taken to implement that [order] in subsequent years."
One Word for the Jobs Scene: Ugly

Happy Memorial Day: Employment in the military
2010-05-31 20:45:00 There are many reasons people enlist in the military for service. Some feel it is their duty to serve our government as their ancestors have before them. Others serve to gain access to college and some, for a career path with guaranteed employment and benefits. There are many personal reasons for enlisting, yet all serve our country while protecting our freedom. Though not perfect, the United States is still the best place in the world. It offers the best lifestyle and potential opportunities for success. With unemployment close to 11% in many areas, contacting the military may be a viable option for employment. A huge misconception is that all the jobs in the military are in combat. This is just...

Monster To Follow Naukri & Launch Employment Index For India
2010-01-12 06:59:00 Naukri had launched a new research centric monthly update on the hiring activity in India early last year called Jobspeak. It did get them coverage in the media and it seems Monster is set to follow the trend soon with their own employment index. To be fair to Monster they already have such a service running in US and European markets and this is just a geographical extension for them rather than a case of following Naukri’s footsteps. Monster also plans to launch a global job index which will showcase the hot sectors and cities across the world for hiring. Besides for this its also looking at mobiles and how it can be used to connect rural india job seekers to jobs. It had earlier tied up with ITC to service the same sector. Reportedly Monster is in conversation with both mobile handset manufacturers and major telecom players for launching a pan-India scale mobile alert service for jobs which will work even withoutwithout GPRS connectivity. The monthly job index gives inte...

China Law On Term Employment Contracts.
2009-09-03 14:28:00 One of our clients is coming to the end of its contract term with the bulk of its China employees. They wrote Steve asking him some questions regarding fixed term employment contracts under Chinese law. Steve's reply is a made to order blog post, so here goes: Pursuant to Chinese law, you are permitted to enter into two fixed term contracts with an employee. The term of these contracts can be any fixed term that is agreed between the parties. Typically, in China, the term ranges from one to five years. At the end of the second fixed term contract, you have two choices. You can chose not to continue the employment relationship or you can chose to continue the employment relationship under an open term relationship. An open term relationship requires a written contract. This contract has no term. It terminates only under the following circumstances: 1) the employee voluntarily resigns, 2) the employee reaches retirement age or 3) the employee is terminated for "cause." Term...

Regeneration of employment in U.S.A.
2009-08-23 18:47:00 The present downturn of the U.S. economy is a matter of serious concern to the "free" world, as a majority of developing (e.g. India) and underdeveloped countries are dependent on the U.S. for their exports. I personally believe that if SMEs of America resume manufacturing activities such as Fo
Gomers and rednecks find employment and humor in Cash for Clunkers
2009-08-15 01:17:00 This is the umpteenth video showing a pair of hicks at a dealer charged with killing a cash for clunkers trade in. These two - if they vote at all - owe a vote of thanks to Obama and Nancy Pelosi for not only getting them gainful (if minimum wage) employment but also for providing a humorous element to their day. Only socialized medicine could make their lives perfect after this! Yes, another clunker bites the dust. How a Corvette ended up like this is anybody's guess. I'll probably have a nightmare tonight of myself waking up at a rest home in 40 years, with a pair of gomer/redneck male nurses pulling the plug on me. What a terrible way to go.

Soon India Will Have An Online National Employment Exchange - Does It Have
2009-07-07 11:54:00 Finance Minister Pranab Mukherjee announced in budget 2009-’10 that India will have a centralized portal using which any job seeker can access the employment exchange of any city and can apply for the job. This project will be carried in public-private partnership which will collaborate to develop a national portal with common software to provide similar interface across various employment exchanges. Will it really benefit its target audience? Employment exchanges have been in existence for long and certain employment exchanges (eg. Delhi Employment exchange) are online for more than 5 years but none of them have considerable number of employers. Most of job seekers registered with employment exchanges are either searching for jobs in Government sectors or related to teaching, nursing, ITI or are unskilled labor. In Delhi employment exchange around 32 thousands job seekers posted resume for teaching jobs, around 30 thousand for ITI, drivers and more than 1.5 lakh are under...
